Sun in Pisces: Matters of the Heart

Chart from my work on Listen for the Sun ingressing Pisces.

First a shout-out to my Pisces cousins. We are in a positively tremendous moment, with numerous traditional planets and a good few recent discoveries in our sign.

Pisces tends to be the thing that the world wants the most but does the least to encourage. Everyone loves music; most people discourage their children from being musicians. Everyone loves art. Same deal with that. The trillions of dollars that go into bombs and aircraft carriers — heck, the $1.8 million that pays for one missile — could pay for a lot of art, music, theater, sound, color and meditation.

Yes it’s true that the people who want the very most badly to establish themselves in these fields almost always go through tribulation and uncertainty to get there, and it’s a weeding out process. Yet it also blocks many who deserve attention, and hardens the hearts of many whom we say we respect for their sensitivity.

People with strong Pisces in their charts know the world needs to be softer, more embracing of vulnerability, and needs to take better care of kids and critters. There is a natural empathy and populism to this sign that we need to encourage and which we also need to remember is easy to corrupt.

For those with strong Pisces charts, the world feels like a safer, friendlier place when planets concentrate in the water signs and especially in Pisces, and that’s what’s happening now.

When the Sun enters Pisces Monday, it joins four planets that are already there — Neptune, Chiron, Mars and Mercury. That’s a lot of Pisces — more than we’ve ever had in recent years. There is a special message in this ingress because the Sun changes signs in a conjunction with the asteroid Eros, which is about matters of the heart — both emotional and biological.

Pisces is the sign of the imagination, of creativity and of a deep kind of faith that’s not available through religion, a book or a workshop. Pisces is the faith that you’re born with, and as such, it can represent the crisis of faith, of finding your passion and of making contact with your creativity.

Eros in an exact conjunction with the Sun as its Pisces journey begins is saying that creative power comes from the heart, which may be close to what people think of when they say ‘soul’ — another Pisces element.

Neptune is right there, which is accentuating the same story. The difference between these two planets [Neptune and Chiron, the slow movers in the equation] is that Neptune can act invisibly, in the background, until something brings its influence into focus. Neptune, like Pisces, is easily corrupted. Rather than being expressed, it’s far more often suppressed (by drugs, drink, denial, deception and delusion). Those suppressing elements can be so deeply intractable that it can seem impossible to get to the soulful level of creativity beneath them.

But at the moment, Pisces has a lot of help. Chiron’s longterm presence in Pisces is accentuating the quest for your true passion, your deepest creativity and your faith both in yourself and something larger than yourself. Chiron is always looking for that connection point between micro and macro, between the element and the whole system; Chiron is always reading for the holistic level of existence.

Over the next few weeks or so, the Sun will make many aspects — conjunctions to Neptune and Chiron, as well as aspects to Jupiter, Pluto and Saturn. This will provide a concentrated sequence of opportunities — actual opportunities, though you will need to tune into that Pisces level of awareness: noticing inspiration, feeling your creative impulse, opening your inner eyes and seeing your vision.

One interesting element of the ingress chart is that Venus, one of the co-rulers of Pisces, is in Aquarius. It is also square the lunar modes. This is a reminder not to become emotionally overwhelmed by the powerful watery presence of all these planets. Venus in Aquarius, square the nodes, is hinting that a lot hinges on being able to have some mental detachment; the ability to think as well as to feel (and remember, being overwhelmed by one’s emotions is not exactly feeling).

The Moon is also conjunct Jupiter in Gemini; both the Moon and Jupiter have connections to Pisces. This is another reminder to keep your clarity, to use your mind, and to seek for your answers within rather than searching in the ‘outer’ world. This is not merely a spiritual concept — in truth the answers are to be found within, which you could say is a keynote of Pisces in its true essence.

Creativity comes from within; as does love; as does erotic pleasure; as does inspiration; and it’s also where we find this thing we call God. Not out there. Not in someone else. Not in that book…inside you.

  1. Hi Carrie, I hope you get to feeling your usual strength very soon!

I also want to clarify something in my own experience as it relates to dating. I don’t want to give the impression that I’m some irresistible guy. I have my faults but I’m not that egocentric. I don’t want to fill in the blanks on what lovely Pisces women are feeling or not feeling, and I accept a “no”. But I won’t lie, being close to this energy when it comes together naturally is among the most beautiful things I have experienced. Sometimes its just hard to know if the “fixed” quality of my sign is something that, when used mindfully, can help the mutable quality on the other side. I’ve done a lot of inner work here, and although I have more to learn, I must just learn to take a pill and relax, and let things come to me. Oh, but I’m a guy. I’m supposed to be a little more pursuing, more confident, etc. You can see my conundrum, right? Okay, I’ll shut up know…….

  2. I am a Pisces. Yet all this lovely stuff in Pisces is happening in my 6th house of health. I have been either sick or injured for over 2 months now. Sunday, I found I have a really bad UTI and I was shivering that night despite starting on the antibiotic and natural cures I have here. My right knee has been killing me since I fell in Dec. Yesterday I started having digestion problems too that are still with me today. So instead of feeling so happy about all that stuff in Pisces I am feeling sick; something I cannot afford to be. I get depressed when I am sick or down for too long. I am trying to fight the depression. David is solicitous and some of the kids are but others get resentful when I am sick and demand more of my attention. My birthday is Friday and I will be 53. I used to be an energy powerhouse but this past 6 months or so I have not and it scares me; will I ever get my energy back?

Trans. Sun and Neptune are conjunct Natal Chiron in late Aqu. and my sun in early Pisces in the 6th house. These are both also opposing Pluto in the 12th. Trans Nessus is sitting right on my natal Chiron in the 6th and Trans Venus is (also in the 6th house) opposing Natal Uranus (in the 12th house).

@ Daniel: Pisces is also the sign of sacrifice. Perhaps that’s the problem…I know I have a hard time allowing others to do for me but my astrology teacher, Beth Underwood, reminded me that the shore needs the tide to come back in not just go out so I work on allowing that; it helps that I am an aware Pisces but perhaps the ones you have encountered are not as aware yet? And yes, some Pisces don’t like being contained, others fear the hurtfulness that some Scorpios can put out. Unless the Pisces in question is self aware, it can be difficult to get close. Most Pisces I know are like emotion sponges; they absorb everyone else’s emotions around them and it can be hard to differentiate between what is absorbed and what are our own feelings. Not every Pisces feels comfortable with all that emotion either; ones with strong air in their chart may just want to get away from strong feelings (or those who engender them). I have a daughter like that; she has a Pisces sun but so much else in air signs that she hates strong emotions around her and she goes in her room and retreats so as to stop feeling other people’s feelings.

  3. Daniel: Many Pisces feel unworthy of love. They are so busy giving, busy creating, that when something arrives for themselves, they rush away from it, afraid it will control them.

That does describe it very well, and a pattern that defininitely gets in the way of having what I (fish) want. control them… or eat them. skittish.

So. This arrangement says GO for it, and there must be a balancing pause to Let It In.

I’m scorpio rising, with Saturn and Juno getting it on in my first house (along with all the Liliths) and Jupiter and Uranus flanking the 8th and 9th house cusp in Cancer, grand water trine meeting Mercury retro all year. Whirlpool effect. Throw a rope to Chiron to keep me from going under.

I’ll enjoy the leaky boat theme on PW fm tonight.

  4. my mom is like a super pisces with her sun, moon and rising being such plus a couple other placements there. i tease her sometimes and call her my piranha mama for how sharp she can be, (and i don’t just mean her wisdom) especially when protecting me or defending an ideal. so maybe with all this fishy mojo, the rest of the world will feel more like “home” for a bit.

  5. I do love Pisces time! Daniel, I never thought about the “rushing away, afraid it might control them” part, but it does fit, for the Pisces’ I’ve known (much of my family are Pisces people, and a couple of my cats are too), and for me too. Today I did something I’ve wanted to do for several months, a romantic related something. And I realize I was afraid it might take me over, but it didn’t and I liked it and probably will do it again. Got home and saw that the sun went into Pisces today, of course. Yay Pisces!

  6. ….one more tidbit….another personal experience is that there is a direct link between gut-health and emotional anxiety. (Gut health heavily influenced by ingestion of GMO’s and refined sugar.) xo

  7. Amanda. I am not an official nutritionist here, so I am “out-of-school” – but please, if you are able, look into possible nutritional shifts that could help your nephew.

(Such as removal of aspertime. (This is often served in school to kids with “ADHD” as it is still thought to be “better than sugar”.) I also removed bananas from my sons diet with great success. And wheat. There are many nutritional imbalances that cause anxiety. I speak from personal experience re: both my son and myself. My son was a special-needs kid until 10th grade when he came to live with me full-time and I could control his diet full-time. “Suddenly” he was a straight “A” student and was removed from Special-Ed.)

  8. my only nephew is a pisces; he turns 8 tomorrow. in reading this, i thought, “god, i hope this astrology gives him some reprieve!”

the original plan for this coming weekend was for my nephew to come visit his dad (my brother) and grandmother (my mom); i was going to drive over there friday night & stay over so i could have some good time to play with him.

but i found out a couple days ago that he is dealing with such anxiety (at 8 years old!) that he does not want to come visit (his dad will go to him). he won’t even go to his other grandmother’s house, and she was one of his main daycare providers in his earlier years. he and that grandmother are very, very close.

apparently there are some little girls at school telling him he is ugly and stupid (he is neither, and i’m not simply biased as his aunt). and his school teachers are not working with his IEP they way they’re supposed to (he’s a little ADHD, apparently).

it breaks my heart that he is feeling so bullied and anxious right now, to the point of not wanting to visit his two grandmothers’ houses with one of his parents.

so yeah, definitely hoping the extra pisces mojo feels like a balm or a security blanket for him, and not just “more intensity.”

  9. Eric, thank you for calming some of this double Scorp’s angst…leaky boat over here!

Daniel, “this is a place of rest of exploration”…couldn’t agree more, and would add a bit of contemplation, just because.

  10. Perhaps Daniel, not so much “unworthy of love” as much as experiencing Love in a different way (than is perhaps a common notion of it) and giving, giving, giving in knowing that eventually everything comes round the spiral (and hoping that as the Giving passes ’round that a little is tasted here and there by those it touches and that they find it good.)

Thank you, Eric. I am one Pisces blessed by being present here at PW, where all things Piscean are given and received with gratitude.

  11. Ah Pisces, the healer, the pool in the desert, and forever inspiring me to go deeper. This is a place of rest and exploration for this Scorp. I’ve always felt a special connection, an easy understanding, and yet also quiet bewilderment. Many Pisces feel unworthy of love. They are so busy giving, busy creating, that when something arrives for themselves, they rush away from it, afraid it will control them. Perhaps I’ve never truly appreciated them so much as I have today.

  12. Eric thank you for this. It is so inline and with yesterday’s Oracle. Seems like the Sun and plants in Pisces were already leading the way.

It’s realizing that that same mundane power outside of us however mighty, or awe inspiring, is also found within. And it is remembering, (and in varying degrees) harnessing, unleashing, balancing, in our learning to embrace that power — the God or Goddess within — our most peaceful, passionate life expression can take place.

“Chiron is always looking for that connection point between micro and macro, between the element and the whole system; Chiron is always reading for the holistic level of existence.”

With my natal Chiron in the middle of Pieces, this is very helpful for me to understand and remain open to. Thank you Eric! xps

  13. I am so happy for all the Pisces Peeps out there (in here) … many happy returns of the day!! (note to self: look up that reference).

If I may, I’ve got Pisces “intercepted” (I believe is the term) in my first house … and, as you’d expect, Virgo the same in 7th. Might I assume this might be the reason why I’ve struggled to wrap my arms around all that is Pisces within?

    Beautiful post.

  14. When I relax and am drawn in to the core and heart of the matter as I read… then it really is a top piece of music today eric….thanks!

Studying your heiroglyphics …. led me to Serennu….. and Hades (1st.degree Cancer)… and Toro (1st degree Scorpio)….and Phaethon (1st degree Taurus) … which give us a little more juice over the next 12/24 hours. Hades was perhaps the most revelatory… being associated with… amongst other things …nuns, shamans and things metaphysical….

I spend my time in West Africa dealing with Griots, Jalis and Marabouts…who are still strongly placed in village life…along side Islam.

    here is a quote from
    http://www.uranian-institute.org/bfhades.htm

“Because many subtle and metaphysical realities are not always sufficiently included in our socioculturually programmed everyday belief systems and paradigms, we sometimes deal with highly problematic or even disastrous issues with either Neptune or Hades, depending again on how consciously (with open awareness versus prejudices or preconceived assumptions) we empathize with people, situations, things, and other living beings (including animals) in our environs, and to what degree when understanding the realities of the underlying, and not always obvious, chemistry of the realities we encounter.”

It is the contrapuntal (tunes that counter point each other melodically) identities of Africa and Europe that can cause me stress…similar to the dualities of both Pisces and Gemini…. yet today…. as the Sun kicks in…. there is only that Phaethon-like desire to drive the chariot too close to the Sun to be aware of. Toro in Scorpio adds to the Eros effect…. just keep your foot off of the gas…..till the chariot is parked up!!

How come ..it always ends up with Zeus?

    Truly magical!!

    Paul
