Mars square Jupiter, Juno conjunct Neptune

Today Mars in Libra squares Jupiter in Cancer. You may be feeling a push to work out something in your inner relationship life or sense of ‘home’, and another simultaneous aspect is focusing the theme: Juno conjunct Neptune in Pisces. There is something here about dissolving and purging our more toxic relationship dynamics, including western culture’s more romantic delusions about marriage.

For a little background, see the bottom couple sections of the Planet Waves members’ issue Eric wrote just before the Capricorn solstice of 2012. As with the solstice a few weeks ago, last year’s solstice also had a special chart (one carrying the burden of end-times ideology loosely based on the Mayan calendar). Juno figured prominently in the 2012 Capricorn solstice, conjunct the Sun.

In sussing out the astrology of that event, Eric investigated the discovery chart for Juno, finding that this asteroid has a close association with anger turned inward, difficulty expressing passionate emotions, family patterns or conditioning that ‘have always been that way’, and a tendency to want healing experiences to ‘fix everything’ — or to fix the ‘other’.

Tomorrow, less than two hours after Mars and Jupiter exact their square between relationship-oriented Libra and home-centered Cancer, Juno exactly conjoins Neptune in Pisces. So we can take this as one event, with one main message — that of dissolving some of the more rigid, unquestioned rules and expectations of marriage-style coupling, along with the toxic jealousy and emotional projection that tend to go along with all of it.

This is Neptune we’re talking about, however; it’s possible there’s an element of denial or illusion about whatever you think you want with a partner. As noted in yesterday’s column, Mars square Jupiter can translate into not noticing how hard you’re working against yourself. Neptune could make it harder to see how much time/energy/money you’re wasting by missing the forest and focusing on that one knot in that one tree. So if you’re caught up in jealousy (or other negativity/insecurity), ask yourself if its cause is real — or just your (mis)perception of something.

Yet Neptune in Pisces also offers the potential to discover creative solutions and an intuitive sense of the big picture in the partnership or marriage situation Juno represents. This is where Neptune’s powers of dissolution can work in your favor, melting some of the black-and-white, ‘my way or the highway’ attitude that often gives Juno a bad rap.

At its best, Mars-Jupiter is a motivated transit — and it’s connected to Juno-Neptune by virtue of Jupiter’s shared rulership of Pisces (Neptune is Pisces’ other ruler). The idea is to get clear on the motives behind what you want; if healing and wholeness are higher on the priority list than scorekeeping and possession, that’s a good sign.

Ultimately, tapping into the ‘higher octave’ of universal love Neptune represents might depend on how much you take to heart (and pay attention to) the messages offered by the Mercury-Venus conjunction today. So listen carefully.

  1. In a recent conversation with Shamanic Astrologer Cayelin Castell, I learned that Juno was also known to the ancient Romans as Juno Moneta. Her name is the origin of the words money, monetize, and mint. In fact Roman coins were minted in her temple for 400 years. How do you think this connection of the goddess with money influences the meaning of the astrology?

  3. Good overview of these aspects Amanda and I was intrigued enough to view Juno’s discovery chart whereupon I found something that might fit in with the overall purpose of this Zeitgeist. In her own chart Juno has a loving trine with Venus who is conjunct the chart’s south node, indicating that love isn’t the problem, if there is one, in her relationships. Occupying fire signs for both goddesses indicate an ability to express passion and spirit, but it is the south node in Leo that indicates it is time to expand beyond this comfort zone in order to grow beyond or expand the horizon. It is Juno’s (in her own discovery chart) sextile with discordant Eris that beckons the explorer (Juno in Aries) to the north node that conjuncts Eris; both in the sign of Aquarius.

The present Zeitgeist of course is all about breaking through old standards (Pluto in Capricorn) in a new way (Uranus in Aries). There is an emphasis of underworld exploration with Transpluto and Orcus both transiting in early Virgo now, and both are opposite transiting Neptune and Juno. Juno’s discovery chart sextile with Eris and the North Node form a yod with the transits of Transpluto and Orcus (over time) that likely will be triggered with Juno’s conjunction Neptune. New forms of relationship/partnership have an Aquarian signature, and often (if not always!) create a Eris-like reaction in established corners of society. Because it was Jupiter’s excessive Mars drive that created the myths of Juno’s retaliation this behavior provoked, we might be experiencing a balance-seeking moment (Mars in Libra), what with the transiting Neptune (dissolve) opposite Orcus and Transpluto (depth) in Virgo (examination), of our motivations to betray the trust of a partnership.

  4. I’m so glad I’ve been talking to my self for so long…let’s just say many, many years.

“Sometimes when I ask for wonderful and magical events in my life and they appear, I seem surprised, almost disbelieving – I think it is a part of the human condition. Peace seems to lie just the other side of my personal demons.” In peace.

It’s impossible to say how much I value having a place to come to where integrity and unflinching truth are always on the menu. Thank you, Amanda, Eric & team.
