Juno-Uranus in Aries: Relationship from the inside out

As your intuition is working on the Pisces puzzle described in yesterday’s blog post, consider one possible theme it might be working on: that relationship proceeds most effectively from a sense of completeness within oneself first, and then can be extended to relationship to another. It’s not the most common order of operations in Western culture, but today’s astrology suggests it might be about to catch on.

Juno, the asteroid representing marriage, relationship, jealousy and social justice, conjoins Uranus in Aries today (exact at 10:51 am EDT).

Uranus is a major, slow-moving planet associated with surprises, innovation and revolution; it has been called ‘the awakener’ by some, and is one half of this era’s defining aspect (the Uranus-Pluto square, whose process of disruption and evolution we have been witnessing and engaging with for a few years now, and will be for several more).

Aries, for its part, is the sign of the self, often given the key phrase, ‘I am’.

So here we have an image of the idea that “I am only me if I am in a relationship” coming up against a catalyst for reinvention and liberation from that old pattern.

Or as Eric put it, “Juno-Uranus looks like a shakeup of the concept of marriage with a return to self-awareness.”

By “shakeup,” he means not that marriage shouldn’t exist, but that it could function better for more people if it’s a natural, organic outcome with its roots in self-awareness, rather than an artificial goal without basis in a process of establishing a clear inner relationship. Relating in an intimate way takes on a vastly different feel and dynamic the more complete you feel in yourself.

Getting the hang of that is not often easy — especially in the face of the very robust wedding industry. And it is an industry, make no mistake about it, complete with an onslaught of expensive, flashy advertising messages reinforcing the idea that not only do you deserve to drive yourself, your parents and your fiancé into debt just to have the ‘perfect’ most important day of your life, but that if you’re ‘normal’, you must want this.

The wedding industry plays on the envy of material trappings as symbols of ‘love’, ‘commitment’, ‘security’ and feeling ‘completed’ and ‘happy’. But just imagine if all of those things could be experienced through a clearer awareness of yourself — an awareness that since you’re already whole, sharing that wholeness with another is gravy. Could jealousy even get much of a toehold then?

It’s worth noting that Juno-Uranus is aligned with two legs of the April 23 cardinal grand cross: Pluto in Capricorn and Jupiter in Cancer are both squaring Juno-Urnaus. Pluto may be shaking up your relationship foundations in ways that feel less self-directed than Juno-Uranus, but that’s just part of the process of making space within your relationship self-concept. Jupiter is asking what it really means to be ‘at home’ within yourself, and home within a relationship — and it serves as a reminder that there’s plenty of room within for all of you.

  1. Strawberry, I am laughing because my life this winter has been about fire, mostly in two woodstoves, and this week in two ceremonies.

I am still pondering whether to meet the Grand Cross on center stage or silent retreat, and meet it I shall, with my exact Saturn return coinciding, and my natal grand water trine all lined up with this Cross.

so far I have had good news this week. Computer problem was simply a cheap charger that died, and some good financial news takes some pressure away. What other goodies can I create while Juno, Uranus, Mercury, Chiron, and Borasisi are all lit up?

  2. DivaCarla, weren’t you telling me once, how therapeutic it can be to play with fire? 😉

I suppose it would be possible for me to not engage with this Grand Cross, but with Pluto conjoined my Vertex, square Uranus conjoined my Eris, square Mars conjoined my Uranus/Juno, square Jupiter in my Sun Sign, I expect I’d have to be drugged up for quite a few years to manage it. Instead, I will embrace these “interesting times,” naked and open, and looking forward to meeting the woman who emerges.

    …what a difference a year makes.

    Love to you!

  3. Strawberry, thanks for pulling up Eric’s Juno archive. When I read that back when, I thought, yep that’s me in relationship, and yes, I learned it at home. My solution has been to avoid relationship. You are inviting me to play with fire along with you?

    I’m thinking give me a minute….

Juno and Saturn conjoined in Scorpio say…
    GO FOR IT!

  4. DivaCarla, I’ve spent a lot of time working with what it might mean to me to have Juno on the ascendant — it’s there in the chart of my wedding, opposite BML. TMI, I’m sure 😉

My favorite thing I’ve ever heard about Juno was in Eric’s Cancer Listen audio, in the context of Juno as a driving force toward developing the relationship with the self, saying, “This core existential confrontation with your self is the thing that sets you free to do what you want to do.” At the time, he was talking about the Sun/Juno conjunction of 12/21/12.

Later, in his writing about that winter solstice event, I’ve copied out the following on Juno (and read it often!):

“To sum up, this thing called Juno, which astrologers think describes marriage and marriage relationships as we know them (and can represent both women and men), has a hard time expressing its most basic needs. Communication is a chore, even to the point of seeming impossible. Juno demands that tactics be used, instead of straightforward communication. There is constant emotional frustration, deeply engrained by the family constellation. Sound familiar? If we associate Juno with jealousy and control in relationships, we might go deeper and look at the rage and frustration that lurks beneath it, retrograde in Aries.

“The message of this chart is: deal with the rage and frustration. Stop pretending it’s about someone else. Learn to communicate your feelings and your desires, and recognize that not doing so has consequences. When we can do this, then the more constructive attributes of Juno emerge, including a sane approach to relationships that is based on devotion rather than demands. But we all know how long it can take to get there, and we know that many of our relatives never did. So this is a full-scale transformation project if there ever was one.”

…so yeah, I’ve been tracking this Juno-Uranus conjunction as well, since I have the two of them conjoined in my natal chart. Actually, Juno manages to be significant a lot of the time, for me. And unsurprisingly, I’ve struggled with these themes. But hey — maybe conjoined Uranus (in Aries, of all places!), we can expect the impossible in regards to this kind of communication??? I’ll wade into that fire if you will 😉

  5. Amanda,
Juno always interested me as she is the first planet appearing in my natal chart, conjunct scorpio ascendant first house, and opposite Nessus who sits on my descendant, 7th house. I take her personally, though I can’t say I know how to take her! In preRoman times, Juno was the animating life force of each woman. A personal Juno.

Now she’s visiting Uranus in Aries, the universal I AM sign, I can feel that.

  6. Thank you for bringing in the Moonshine horoscope for Libra, Pam. It is indeed part of the bigger picture and the themes asking for our attention now.

if anyone is wondering, Moonshine Horoscopes are written by Genevieve Hathaway for Planet Waves for every New and Full Moon, and are designed for your Moon sign (the sign the Moon was in at the time of your birth). We just published the set for the Aries New Moon, which is this weekend.

  7. I guess this resonates with me – don’t know if it fits with Juno?

Libra (Sep. 22-Oct. 23) — I propose an idea about your relationships — that they are more about you than the other person. I don’t mean this in terms of narcissism, rather that you access your sense of potential through the act of relating to close partners. At the moment, this potential may feel even more tangible than it’s been in the past. You are moving through a period where your power to manifest your vision is particularly potent. Notice the impact your relationships have on you. Consciously choose who you surround yourself with, using how they support your sense of potential as a barometer. This may involve a process of selection that requires you to consciously choose who to allow into your close tribe. As you surround yourself with people who truly resonate with you, you will continue to feel an increased sense of making contact with your ability to shape your world. — by Genevieve Hathaway

  8. And let’s not underestimate the power of Tradition. The most common thread in all the versions of Sedna’s myth there was the Damocles sword hanging over her head if she did NOT follow tradition by becoming a wife. Society can be so cruel. At least the Saturn part of society. But looka here, Saturn’s long station retrograde opposite Sedna has got the old boy re-thinking that particular tradition; hmmmm. . . . might there be some financial advantages to a bit of flexing in that department? Ay, there’s the rub.

Juno herself has always been dis-satisfied with the inequality of marriage, part of her message since the winter solstice of 2012 when she was conjunct the 0 Capricorn Sun. She spent all last summer at the crossroad point of the nodes beseeching alternatives to traditional views of marriage. Now, this month, Juno, ever so close to the Aries Point, was front woman with her sisters and niece in a yod at the time of the Pisces New Moon. Today she perfects the conjunction with Uranus that in the March Equinox (set in Washington DC) was in the 10th house of government.

I do like your style Musicman, you translate the Big Picture in such an un-threatening way so as to make it a thing to look forward to; the Societal transformation.

Thanks Amanda for suggesting “being whole” is a goal of its own and not something determined solely by partnership.

  9. Very well expressed…..to the core Amanda.

Some of us will remember the way society was threatened as Uranus conjunct Pluto. Out of wedlock, living in sin, bastard, were terms that were commonly seen in newspaper headlines in the 1960s.

What we are witnessing is the stranglehold that the state has on it’s citizens being challenged, and ultimately broken. From North Korean multiple state weddings to the Chapels of Vegas and the Elvis industry, there is a bread and circuses diet that is fed to the people. It kind of mirrors the path to orgasm, but uses deprivation and longing to manipulate the proletariat into doing as told. In true Pavlov style, if you don’t at least provide some pay-off, then there is only extinction to look forward to! How is your marriage darling, and who is that man in the wardrobe?

With Mercury, Neptune, Chiron and Borasisi dancing around the Pisces 12th house, feeding into the Aries 1st house Uranus, Juno, Eris fire of Initiation, I would say that we are right on course to bring about the changes to our own space that allow for a Societal transformation.

It is the new Solar year. The Jungian/Reichian model has been thoroughly revamped with an Aquarian process. This has been duly re-examined by the Piscean Intuition copyright association, and it is time to begin the 2nd quarter of the Uranus – Pluto cycle. Mars and Jupiter are there to provide extra va va voom should it be needed.

The current conversation between Vesta, Ceres, the Nodes and Mars, as well as Mars soon come opposition to Eris, should help to keep the space open and with a thoroughly forward moving perspective!

    Great job!

    paul
