In 2027, Chiron will return to its discovery position: the “rainbow bridge” degree in Taurus for which it is so well known. The first-ever centaur planet (with its strange, elongated orbit), Chiron comes in and out of fashion, and understanding seems to wax and wane. Yet Chiron is always here, and ready to serve.
In this letter, I am opening up the themes of my 2027 annual readings, The Return. These will be a combination of written, audio and video readings available by the first week of January. The Return is my 29th annual, following up on Inner Light, The Awakening, and Somewhere In Between. There is nothing else like it on the internet or in print.

Background
In 1977, the discovery of Chiron was announced as the 10th planet. That got the attention of a few astrologers. The response over the next five or six years was remarkable: a concerted effort to figure out this new planet, and a series of books that today remain among the best published.
Early in its existence, Chiron was described (by its discoverer Charles Kowal) as the maverick, by astrologers as the “inconvenient benefic,” and from ancient lore, “the skillful one.” Where you have Chiron in your chart, you stand out. You are also likely to struggle in some way. Chiron is where we turn debilities into talents, and problems into solutions that many can benefit from.
There is often a concentration of hard-won ability — sometimes unrecognized. The name Chiron means “one who has hands,” which are the symbol of human capability.
While I’m not one of the “famous” Chiron people, I’ve written about it consistently since 1996. Earlier this year, Planet Waves published a collection of 30 years of my writing about Chiron called The Chironian. In that time, I’ve worked through the Chiron transits of more than a thousand clients. So I’ve seen every mode of Chiron’s expression, including in countless news charts over the past three decades.
Everyone around age 50 is having their Chiron return. I will devote a section of the readings to this essential key life transit (for both late Aries and early Taurus placements).

The Chiron Theme Often Omitted: Mentorship
Above all, Chiron is a teacher. As the fusion of animal and man, and of god and human, he is here to awaken us to the full spectrum of our human ability. You will read many different online interpretations of Chiron, with a wide range of qualitative values. Mostly, they are oversimplified and not written from true experience.
The factor you will read least often is that Chiron devoted his life to teaching, and in particular, one-to-one mentorship.
Chiron was mentor to a generation of legendary figures of the Hellenic age. He taught skills of combat and the healing arts to Achilles. He taught diplomacy to Jason. He taught medical arts to Asclepius, who became the god of medicine, ancestor of Hippocrates. He taught prophecy and healing to Aristaeus (an important god of farming, herding, beekeeping and olive cultivation). And he taught music and song to Orpheus. Among his tasks was to tame Heracles, who could not control his brute strength.
It’s amazing that the Greeks attributed to Chiron most of the gifts that represent humanity at its best. It is now time to reclaim those gifts.
Nine Challenging Years of Chiron in Aries
We have just lived through nine very challenging years of Chiron in Aries, a time marked among other things by a claimed global health crisis, a mass “vaccination” campaign, and the seizure of the medical system by globalist forces. We have experienced the full-on medicalization and radical politicization of gender.
More recently and into the present moment, we are witnessing the introduction of synthetic, utterly artificial “thought,” speech and personality to the human environment. People are surrendering their emotional lives, their creative work, their time management and their ability to think to disembodied “A.I.” technology.
When will this end? The Chiron-Eris conjunction of 2024-present has been a radical wake-up call to regain control over our technology. In many important ways, Chiron in Taurus will be about the opportunity to bring awareness back to the physical realm.
This will take many by surprise, but if you read The Return, you will be prepared.
Chiron Returns to its Sign and Degree of Discovery
Chiron is about to return to its sign of discovery, Taurus, and in 2027 and 2028 will make a series of conjunctions to its discovery degree. This represents the full activation and awakening of Chiron and the claiming of his wisdom and dedication to service.
Taurus represents the wisdom of the body. The crisis of Chiron in Taurus will be the re-embodiment of humanity after the severing of mind, body and self by the onslaught of extreme digital conditions that occurred during Chiron in Aries.
These will be among the themes of the 2027 readings.
Chiron Changed Astrology — For a While
The introduction of Chiron gave astrologers a chance to think about what they do, and move forward. Before then Pluto was the most recent planetary discovery and that took decades to be accepted by astrologers. With Chiron, there were many early adopters, who led the way.
The ultimate therapy tool in astrology, Chiron represents sensory consciousness, the mind-body nexus, and the common sense (the sensus communis or meeting place of the senses) that all define the concept holistic.
Chiron was the first time the holistic principle was introduced as a specific astrological factor.
Yet with the rise of traditional astrology starting in the mid-1990s, the astrological community seems to have dropped the serious discussion of Chiron in place of adopting methods supposedly better because they date back 2,400 years. But Chiron and his teachings are much older, from the much earlier Hellenic age — not the Hellenistic age. And they are relevant today when healing is our primary need.
In Taurus, its sign of discovery, Chiron presents the opportunity for a radical shift back to physical awareness that has been stripped away as we plunge deeper into the disembodied digital age.
I would add a sentence of caution here. Over the next year, many people will emerge as “Chiron experts” and most astrology fans will have little way to assess their level of knowledge or skill.
The Return: 2027 Annual Edition of Planet Waves
As you may know, every year back to 1999, I have offered written (and often multimedia) annual readings for the 12 Sun and rising signs.
Over the past two years, in The Awakening and Inner Light, I’ve chronicled the movements of Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, Pluto and Sedna into their new signs. Those readings are as valuable today as they were the day they came out. My readings usually run about three to five years ahead of life events.
