Don’t Hold Your Breath: Inner Planet Retrogrades End One Week from Friday

Scroll down for the horoscope.

Dear Friend and Reader:

Here’s a roundup of what I cover in this week’s Planet Waves column for your Sun, Moon and rising signs. I write astrology for literate adults. Most of my readers, listeners and clients are over 50 years old.

We’re currently in a tight spot, when everything seems pending, suspended, pensive, expensive and repensive. Not to mention unending. Mercury and Venus are currently retrograde in Scorpio and Libra respectively, and will station direct within hours of one another, this coming Friday, Nov. 13. (Take it slow through that weekend and into the following week.)

A few days later, Mars forms a conjunction to Jupiter in Leo on the South Node. This is big Jupiter action in a time when there are a dozen planets and points retrograde in Aries, many of them squeezed against the private-is-public Aries Point. So that puts a lot of pressure on Mars, and so too does the South Node.

It takes some focus and condensation to cover this in a 160-word horoscope entry, but that’s what I do. There are more details in the November Monthly Horoscope. You get more if you read the whole column and read week to week, as my horoscope is serialized, not episodic. Each week and each sign build on one another.

The Planet Waves horoscope has been published in many formats, languages, and frequencies since 1995 and supports the entire Planet Waves project.

Thanks for your business and your trust.

With love,

Your faithful astrologer,

Eric signature

Today is horoscope 1,626. Detailed readings for your Sun, Moon and Rising Sign.

Aries (March 20-April 19) — The question is whether a partner is learning important lessons of growth and maturity in their relationship to you, and whether you’re paying attention. However, it’s impossible to consider the spiritual condition of another person without seeing it through your own filters, so the questions apply equally to you. Your best information about someone else is going to come from them and not from your assessment. Therefore, ask them about their reality, their needs, their desires and their expectations. Listen carefully to what you hear. The conversation should proceed from there. Whatever situation you’re in appears to be one where circumstances keep repeating in order to establish whether certain emotional changes are necessary. But the question, as rarely asked today, is this: How much of the terms of your relationship are the product of what we could modestly call digital insanity? Consider carefully.

Taurus (April 19-May 20) — How did anyone get anything done without all these computers everywhere? And I know you know what I mean when I say everywhere. Everything but the wastebasket and your pencil mug has an IP address, and this is turning reality into vapor. If you’re experiencing some confusion or conflict at work, step out of the computer environment. Have an in-person meeting in a room free of devices. (Personally, your Venus in Taurus astrologer can report that phones and iPads are banned from Planet Waves meetings.) Try meeting outside, or in an environment with food. This is a great time to ditch your “health monitor” or “sleep monitor.” If you don’t know you’re having an anxiety attack you don’t need your Dick Tracy wristwatch to tell you. If you slept well, you know it. If something is on your mind, write it out in a notebook. You’re likely to be more sensitive than most to the effects of gabbing with a fake person in the form of a “chatbot.” Please, save your soul. You need it.

Gemini (May 20-June 21) — This is a creatively rich and potentially socially chaotic time for you. The people around you don’t think or feel like you. They may be lovely but paint-by-numbers is not your thing. You’re being called to take real creative risks, by which I mean considering and exploring what you’re not supposed to think about. Who is doing the supposing? That’s what you discover by breaking taboos. But make sure you’re sensitive to the cringe reaction: the retreat from anything sensitive or revealing. Yet I suspect that your deepest concern is about what you might reveal to yourself, and therefore have to acknowledge as existing within yourself. And this is why God gave us art, writing, music, dance and acting…and many other arts that help people transform their confusion and pain into beauty. By the way: this is the true crime of generative bullshit computer art. It’s all results and no human process.

Cancer (June 21-July 22) — Balance your priorities on money and preparation for taking new forms of action. Mars is moving straight ahead through Leo, your financial house, about to make a conjunction to Jupiter. This bodes well for getting results in the money aspect of life, though your longterm gains will come from having a longterm plan. Now is the time to be destining that. This originates out of your 10th place, Aries. In fact this is the time to be thinking in terms of tactical plans that include the financial, funding and profit aspects. This is not always your thing; you are driven mostly by taking care of the world, and getting interesting results that help you grow. However, there is plenty of room in your life for what I will call the profit motive (for lack of a better term). You want your projects to pay for themselves, to pay you — and to be meaningful.

Leo (July 22-Aug. 23) —

The upcoming conjunction of Mars and Jupiter in your birth sign is propelling you forward, though I suggest you pause and think before you make any major decisions. You seem to have everything going for you right now, though there are factors you cannot see that may lead you to wish you had not committed to so firmly. I’m not saying that bad news is coming; I’m saying that an important reassessment of your priorities is imminent with the forthcoming Mars retrograde early next year. So what seems one way today will seem another way then. You don’t need to jump into anything with both feet, or sign anything you cannot get out of. Society is going through a series of watershed moments, and while it’s not popular — in fact it is distinctly unpopular — I suggest you take the long view and be working with at least a three-year plan.

Virgo (Aug. 23-Sep. 22) — The retrogrades of your ruling planet Mercury and your neighboring planet Venus will wind down in about a week, and until then it’s important that you tread with care and caution. They both change directions within hours next Friday, and as the old expression goes, with that there will be a revelation of truth. In fact, various truths, including a diversity of matters related to your finances that you had not considered. If Mercury retrograde means “don’t sign, don’t buy,” that time is now. I’m not talking about a toaster; I’m talking about contracts, major purchases (such as those paid over time) and other crucial agreements. Those can all wait two weeks (factoring for a safety margin). Mercury retrograde is not about superstition; it’s about what you know and when you know it. Even if it’s totally a figment of the mind, so too is awareness.

Libra (Sep. 22-Oct. 23) — Venus turning to direct motion in your sign next week is a time to assess your plans. Over the past three months, you’ve seen many situations present themselves and reveal their deeper nature. Now you know something about the territory that you’ll be in — and you’ll be here for a while. The most essential thing you can do is to use what you know; and to know when you don’t know. Imagine that printed on a sign over your desk, or saved on your home screen. I will say it again: Use what you know. Know when you don’t know. That involves questions like, “Have I seen this before? What did I learn?” As for knowing when you don’t know: this is about a more or less constant process of asking yourself how you came to believe what you believe.

Scorpio (Oct. 23-Nov. 22) — Regarding that which would on one level seem to be a sign of bold ambition, I would advise discretion is the better part of valor. There are certain things you might do that seem obvious and promising. Yet Mercury still retrograde in your sign is cautioning you about something you don’t know. Worse, you may think you know it, which means that a blind spot is involved. I suggest you slow down the movie and pause before taking any action that involves your career or profession — such as changing jobs. I realize that certain possibilities seem to have great promise, though there are details that you’re not aware of. This includes a profitability factor that requires a careful check of the business plan. The details count for everything, and must be scrutinized carefully.

Sagittarius (Nov. 22-Dec. 22) — You may encounter a factor that leads you to rethink your life plan, but that would be like planning for your married life with someone while you’re in the middle of the first date. In fact the thing you’re planning on may be the thing you actually do not want. It may feel like the safe or certain option though that does not necessarily match your deeper plans for yourself. The issue seems to center around the details. Your current version of future events is mostly conceived in broad generalities, hopes and aspirations. If you scrutinize the gritty details of the plan you may discover that they are lacking or do not exist. And while Sagittarius is famous for skipping over the fine points, in my book it’s equally famous for being in love with the process of doing things right, once you’re into the work. You can afford to take the more challenging and slower path to not just success, but the right success.

Capricorn (Dec. 22-Jan. 20) — A financial deal may not be what you think, and I suggest delaying before you make or receive a major investment. The matter seems to be risk free, but there are details that you need, and that will serve you to know. While on certain days you are the embodiment of due diligence, optimism can get the best of you. I am not suggesting that you harbor negative expectations; you’re good enough at that — which is why you are so motivated to get over yourself and put on rose-colored glasses. However, I suggest you apply a measure of realism and consider what a worst-case scenario might look like and ask if you’re prepared for that. Also, the worst-case scenario is what contains the seeds of the real idea that you seem to be chasing. It describes a problem for which there may be a very profitable solution. Therefore, apply the brakes of your renowned patience and scrupulous attitude on life.

Aquarius (Jan. 20-Feb. 19) — You are eager to enter new territory with a sense of adventure to rival that of Indiana Jones. However, it would be wise to lean back on safer options and take a generally conservative approach to existence — for now. As the rest of the year develops you will get a better sense why that is. You seem to be thinking quite a lot, though you’re not necessarily framing the issues in such a way that a positive result is possible. This is an important exercise in life, love and business, and the language comes from A Course in Miracles: Let me recognize the problem so it can be solved. That means both seeing your situation for what it is, and then conceiving of the problem in a way where a solution could be discovered and applied (preferably in writing). In fact, one of the prevailing messages of your chart these days is to write things down, ideally with a pen rather than just electrons.

Pisces (Feb. 19-March 20) — You have certain old habits that can serve you well right now. There are many things you’ve learned and even mastered over the years, and now is the time to tap them. Mars meeting up with Jupiter over the next two weeks is saying that the thing you need is action. Yet I would say that the thing you need more than that is thought. If you relax and take stock of your situation, you will get the ideas you need, and those ideas will carry the day. But I suggest that you trust and rely on your momentum, and bank on your experience without taking anything for granted. Pisces can always benefit from a little extra confidence, as your problem is more often insecurity rather than bravado. Meanwhile, keep your intuition on high, and with two personal planets changing directions in sensitive angles of your chart, pay attention to both the details and the psychology of critical financial issues.
