Friday’s Aries New Moon is conjunct centaur planet Chiron — a special event with the message of ‘it’s time to wake up!’
Dear Friend and Reader:
Friday we are up to the Aries New Moon — the conjunction of the Moon and the Sun in Aries. This is an action-packed chart, with most of the planets clustered in Aquarius, Pisces and Aries. With this we have a concentrated locomotive pattern: the fast train to the Aries New Moon. Pluto continues to burn through the last degrees of Capricorn, Uranus is stirring the pot in Taurus.
The sky is still in a kind of Kala Sarpa formation, which means that all the planets are stacked to one side of the lunar nodes. This creates a state of imbalance and also pressure. It’s like everything is leaning to one side.
Here is my conversation with Melanie Reinhart on this configuration. I would clarify that based on much prior research, I know that actual Kala Sarpa involves the planets arrayed on one side of the nodes from Rahu (the north node) to Ketu (the south node).
The planets are now situated from Ketu in Scorpio to Rahu in Taurus. I do not know the name of this alt-Kala Sarpa, though I found it once long ago. It is not easy to locate good information on these yogas. If you study Jyotish and have a reference, please let me know. My old buddy Kalli Halvorson (1955-2009) turned me onto this branch of astrology.

Aries (March 20-April 19) — It’s now time to wrap up old business, which includes retiring expired plans and ambitions. These things have a way of laying around and consuming space, time and energy, your most important resources. It’s not enough to focus on what is new; you have important matters to resolve as you make one of the most important transitions of your life during the next year. This is associated with Pluto moving out of Capricorn and off of your cross of the heavens (the cardinal cross, consisting of Aries, Cancer, Libra and Cap). If you maintain a sense of the past, the present and the future, you will handle this transition deftly. Yet this requires focusing on things other than blazing forward with your many ideas. While you might think of resolving certain matters of the past as a delay, they will give you time to size up your current plans and ambitions, and winnow them down to what you want the most. At this stage of your life, you must be strategic. And it’s essential that you account for the qualities that make you and your creative work different from others. Any truly valid life plan will honor your distinctions, especially now as they are coming to the forefront under the influence of Chiron in your sign. Certain elements of your new phase of existence have already begun. You are entering a time that will be distinguished by your social involvement rather than professional aspirations. Your work-related life will follow this trend. The past 14 years of Pluto in Capricorn have been a wild ride, as you have navigated your way through various elements of ‘straight’ society. You are almost done with that, though not quite. So keep your focus on the present, and take every opportunity to resolve any past matter that could hold you back. From there, the way forward will be much easier to see and feel.
Aries Secrets Revealed: The Sign that Influences Everyone
Dear Friend and Reader:
The Sun is now in Aries and a new astrological year has begun. While I’m working on your monthly horoscope for April and Aries Astrology Studio, I thought I would share some of my notes on the role of Aries in astrology. While Aries has distinct personal attributes for those with it prominently in their chart, it’s also a point of orientation for everyone.
Aries holds a special place as the first sign of the zodiac. The first degree of Aries is where we start measuring all of the signs, and the seasons. It’s also the place used to track the alignment between the tropical zodiac (the one we usually use here in the West) and the sidereal (sy-dee-ree-all) zodiac used in India, Sri Lanka and elsewhere.

Virgo Full Moon: Remember the Holistic Principle
Overnight Thursday to Friday, or early Friday morning (afternoon in Oz) is the Virgo Full Moon. This is the last Moon-Sun opposition of the astrological year, taking place very late in the two signs involved, Pisces and Virgo. The exact time is Friday at 3:17 am EDT.
The Sun enters Aries at 11:33 am EDT on Sunday, so this event is the lead-in to the vernal equinox — the turnover of the astrological year. What is called “sidereal time,” a representation of the year as a 24-hour clock, strikes midnight on the equinox.

Popular understanding of the world situation is, at the moment, so elementary that I don’t think that most people are even able to formulate questions. I would suggest two: what just happened, and what is happening? Of course, if you ask, you might get answers.
Pisces and the Abyss
Dear Friend and Reader:
The Sun arrives in Pisces on Friday, Feb. 18th. The last sign of the twelve, Pisces is where forms dissolve and where certainty evaporates. It’s also the sign of creativity and appreciating ephemeral and ethereal beauty — the kind that’s difficult to describe and easy to mar.Pisces has a vastness to it, though you must float through its qualities, or at most, tread lightly. In our times, we’re already living amidst many uncertainties and without much ground to stand on, and this is not a comfortable space for most people to be in.
The one thing that we humans usually depend on is each another, yet today many report having no friends and more are feeling abandoned by their families.
In many parts of the world, the social fabric has been tattered, and trust in one another is badly damaged. Yet social distancing was a quality of the digital world long before “covid.” Remember all those public service ads encouraging people not to stare into their devices at the dinner table?
Distance is the essence of digital, and many people have as a result confined themselves to their private spaces for decades.
Popular understanding of the world situation is, at the moment, so elementary that I don’t think that most people are even able to formulate questions. I would suggest two: what just happened, and what is happening? Of course, if you ask, you might get the answer.
Many highly intelligent people are simply not interested, don’t want to know, and are not raising questions. The lies seem to present a more stable “reality” than the truth. Yet what is often called a conspiracy theory is something that is factually consistent rather than speculative. It is the cohesion that is the threat.

Sun Conjunct Saturn :: Our Come to Moses Moment
Remember this day in which you came out from Egypt, out of the house of slavery, for by a strong hand the Lord brought you out from this place. — Exodus 13:3
Tin soldiers and Nixons coming / We’re finally on our own. — Neil Young
Dear Friend and Reader:
With Thursday night’s Mercury station direct, we have another equally substantial event: the Sun is conjunct Saturn at the midpoint of Aquarius. This is a combination of aspects that says: Slow Down and Pay Attention. Many more celestial events argue for the same approach.
The astrology so far this year has been exhausting, largely the result of simultaneous retrogrades in Capricorn, with Pluto involved. There have been great moments here and there, though inner-planet retrogradation in Capricorn can feel like waking backwards uphill.
But now we are at a turning point, or at least topping point. The midpoint of Aquarius is called a ‘cross-quarter day’ — that is, one of the balancing points of the zodiac, and of the year. These are the midway locations between a solstice and an equinox (which are called the ‘quarter days’).
The current one is known in different traditions as Imbolc, Candlemas, and Ground Hog Day. Plus, Valentine’s Day is such a cultural phenomenon that it counts as part of this group of Imbolc-related midwinter holidays, even though it’s about 10 days out from the midpoint.
(If you want a nifty, dependable book about this topic, check out Celestially Auspicious Occasions by Donna Henes. I’ll let you find the appropriate bookseller for that.)
As for the world focusing so much attention on a humble woodchuck allegedly looking at his shadow: divination is a traditional but largely forgotten theme of all of the quarter days and the cross-quarter days, as well as eclipses.

Sun in Aquarius :: Our Come to Jesus Moment
The Sun is now in Aquarius, the sign of groups, and also the sign of individuality within groups. If Aquarius represents the in-group, it also represents the out-group. If it’s about individuality within such an arrangement, it can also be about lockstep ideological conformity.
In that sense, it may be the most dangerous sign, but is necessary for any form of community life. We have also been misled by the writers of a Broadway show tune. They told us that Aquarius is exclusively the sign of peace, harmony and understanding. That is not a given; it is up to us, and the choice is going to come into focus as Pluto makes its way into Aquarius one year from now.

In this half-hour presentation, Eric Francis Coppolino describes how he set up his research process during the first days of the “covid” crisis. Eric is an investigative reporter originally from the toxicology field who began his investigative career in an upstate New York neighborhood called Love Canal that was built on a toxic waste dump.
How Deep Is Your Fear?
‘Cause we’re living in a world of fools
Breaking us down, when they all should let us be
We belong to you and me
— The Bee Gees
Dear Friend and Reader:
Every day, I see my spiritual training flash by before my eyes.
Love and fear cannot coexist in the same place. My thoughts are images that I have made. I do not perceive my own best interests. There is another way of looking at the world. God is the love in which I forgive. Love created me like itself. We all contain the means of our own healing. Let me recognize the problem so it can be solved. I could see peace instead of this. My grievances hide the light of the world in me. Let miracles replace all grievances. Love is letting go of fear.
Two years into our little global crisis (read the chronology), we seem to not only be back where we started, but in a worse place: a world where fear is seen as the only virtue. In this alternate reality, we are ruled by those who most effectively terrify us, or confuse us, or make us doubt ourselves.
I am wondering when people are going to collapse from adrenal exhaustion, discouragement, grief, and lack of motivation. I marvel at how through an entire “pandemic,” I’ve only seen one article about how to take care of a sick person (and we have a team of people searching for and reading articles).

TUNE IN 2022 :: Annual Astrology by Eric Francis
New York, December 30, 2021
Dear Friend and Reader:
The Planet Waves annual edition has been written or recorded in Paris, Brussels, Miami, New Jersey, and from Maury Island on Puget Sound. The 23rd annual edition has been created in the mystical hills of Upstate New York, and is now available. This is Tune In 2022.
These are intimate, professional astrology readings that take in the astrology of our strange and challenging moment of time. Presented in audio format, they are live, unedited readings of what is called your Solar Chart: the chart for your sign. Think of it as an archetypal representation of your astrology, where I read many planets that barely touch the surface of mainstream astrology.
TUNE IN 2022 are about 80 to 85 minutes long, tuned to rising signs and Sun signs, applicable to Moon signs. Original music is from Vision Quest, the Planet Waves ambient ensemble.
I would say that this year’s annual readings have an even more introspective emphasis than my work usually has. There is an exceptional article included by Chiron pioneer Dale O’Brien, about Chiron in Aries.
Summary of ’22 Astrology, Sans Too Many Details
The past two years have been riddled with violent, contentious and chaotic astrology. We have witnessed the commencement of a war, as described by commentators from every corner of the social and political spectrum. This will continue to have toxic effects, though those are only as persistent as people indulge themselves.
We are now in a phase of calmer astrology overall. Some emphasis shifts from Aquarius to Pisces. This is likely to come with a more easygoing style of communication among the plebes, who tend to follow fashion.
However, there are important scores to settle, particularly the delusions that have swept through society with the force of Elvis. Mars is going to be very active in 2022, with all roads leading to a retrograde in Gemini that will be influential from this coming August through March 2023.
Pisces Power to the People: Mars and Jupiter
We get a precursor to the action of Mars as it moves through Pisces in the spring; along with Jupiter, this is going to arrive with a somewhat shocking awakening that spreads through society in waves. I am looking forward to the first week in March, when it seems like something previously concealed will become plainly obvious.
Pisces is the actual sign of Power to the People. It’s also a more pleasure-seeking energy; we could use some of that right now. Pisces does not want to dominate anyone.
Pisces wants to have a good time. It likes subdued light and muted colors, not bright, glaring, noisy environments. And Pisces does not really care what you do, as long as you don’t mess with it too much (and is also extremely patient about that).
Saturn in Aquarius: Facing Social Phobias
The conformist and transformational pressure of Aquarius (largely imposed by Jupiter in the past 2 months) is now focused on Saturn. He at least gives you the option to be your own individual if you do the work.
Saturn in Aquarius is also about facing the social phobias that tend to lead people to conform at all costs. For those who have taken this approach, whether sooner or later, the bill comes due, as does potential remorse about what was purchased.
With Jupiter conjunct Neptune in Pisces (one of the standout aspects of the year, which is exact in April), we are going to see a fair amount of Kool-Aid going around among the hardcore, though after a while for others, that starts to smell like the thing that it is.
The Self-Actualizing Power of Chiron in Aries
One last item, which I will cover in my summation video, and which I cover in every one of the 12 signs of TUNE IN 2022. The tension under all of seemingly wide acceptance of “do what I say you should do” of the past two years (and “make me do it so it’s not my fault if something goes wrong”) involves Chiron in Aries.
This is a full-force motivator to be yourself, even when everyone else is telling you to kiss their ass. It has various pseudo-modes (buttons, recycled slogans from 1965, phony tribes, thinking it’s rebellious to wear blue jeans) but ultimately, Chiron threads the needle. As my cousin Bob said, “If you try to be anyone but yourself, you will fail.”
I find that reassuring.
Meanwhile, TUNE IN 2022 is available for the preorder price, if you purchase all 12 signs. People who are subscribing to Planet Waves for the first time may call for a special offer. Reach us at (845) 481-5616.
