[Oct. 27, 2021] SALT LAKE CITY (KUTV) — COVID-19 vaccines for children ages 5-11 in the U.S. are one step closer to approval after a unanimous vote from a Food and Drug Administration advisory panel, with one abstention.My wife was severely neurologically injured by a single COVID vaccine in a clinical trial here in the United States last November. Because study protocol requires two doses, she was dropped from the trial, her access the study app deleted. Her reaction is not described in the recently released clinical trial report. 266 participants are described as having an AE leading to discontinuation, 56 neurological reactions are tallied.
The group voting Tuesday said the vaccine’s benefits in preventing COVID-19 in that age group outweigh potential risks. During the eight-hour hearing, doctors, scientists and concerned citizens were given a chance to testify.

ALBANY. N.Y. (AP) — Ten preteens from around New York have won the first round of state college scholarships for 5-to-11-year-olds who get vaccinated against COVID-19, Gov. Kathy Hochul announced Saturday.
The youths’ names were drawn by lottery after their parents or guardians entered them in the “Vaccinate, Educate, Graduate” contest. It’s open to children 5 to 11 who get their first vaccine dose by Dec. 19. Weekly drawings will continue through Dec. 20.
Winners get tuition, room and board for an associate’s or bachelor’s degree program at a New York State or New York City public university, plus money for books and supplies.

New York City on Monday issued an advisory strongly recommending that everyone wear masks indoors in public places at all times regardless of vaccination status, amid concern about the new, highly mutated strain of the coronavirus named omicron.
“I’m also issuing a commissioners advisory strongly recommending that all New Yorkers wear a mask at all times when indoors and in a public setting. Like at your grocery or in building lobbies, offices and retail stores,” Dr. Dave Chokshi, commissioner of the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, told reporters during an update on the coronavirus situation.
Outgoing Mayor Bill de Blasio and Chokshi said New York City has not identified any cases of omicron so far. They both emphasized that vaccination remains the most crucial tool available to fight Covid-19.

The Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals on Sunday temporarily blocked San Diego Unified’s student COVID-19 vaccine mandate from going into effect — one day before the school district’s deadline for students to get their first dose.
However San Diego Unified’s attorney said Monday he expects the mandate will be restored soon, because the district has already taken steps to address one of the court’s key concerns.
The court sided with a 16-year-old junior at Scripps Ranch High School who had sued last month saying San Diego Unified’s vaccine mandate violated her religious beliefs.

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) — A federal judge on Monday blocked President Joe Biden’s administration from enforcing a coronavirus vaccine mandate on thousands of health care workers in 10 states that had brought the first legal challenge against the requirement.
The court order said that the federal Centers for Medicare & Medicaid had no clear authority from Congress to enact the vaccine mandate for providers participating in the two government health care programs for the elderly, disabled and poor.
The preliminary injunction by St. Louis-based U.S. District Judge Matthew Schelp applies to a coalition of suing states that includes Alaska, Arkansas, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, New Hampshire, North Dakota, South Dakota and Wyoming. All those states have either a Republican attorney general or governor. Similar lawsuits also are pending in other states.

Pfizer CEO Albert Bourla said Monday he expects the company’s Covid-19 treatment pill to be effective against the omicron variant of the virus causes Covid-19.
“The good news when it comes to our treatment, it was designed with that in mind, it was designed with the fact that most mutations are coming in the spikes,” Bourla told CNBC’s “Squawk Box.” “So that gives me very high level of confidence that the treatment will not be affected, our oral treatment will not be affected by this virus.”
Pfizer submitted its application earlier this month to the Food and Drug Administration to authorize the pill, Paxlovid, for emergency use. In a clinical trial of people age 18 and over, Pfizer found the pill reduces hospitalization and death by 89% when taken with a widely used HIV drug within three days of the start of symptoms.

Israel on Saturday unveiled new plans to ban all foreigners into the country, a world-first in efforts to curb the spread of the newly detected COVID-19 variant called Omicron.
The nation has also revealed plans to use counter-terrorism phone-tracking technology to surveil the new variant’s spread.
The travel ban to all foreigners would last 14 days, Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett said in a statement. The new measures, which still require government approval, come after Israel announced a smaller-scale travel ban on Friday for foreigners coming from most African countries.

[Nov. 24, 2021] New York City educators who were denied a religious exemption to vaccination on Monday were back in the 2nd Circuit Court of Appeals in the cases Kane v. De Blasio and Keil v. The City of New York to argue the policy adopted by the city to determine religious exemptions blatantly violates the Constitution and discriminates against minority faiths.Plaintiffs and the general public were not allowed in the courtroom for Monday’s hearing. However, more than 100 people held a “faith rally” in front of the Thurgood Marshall Courthouse in downtown Manhattan. The rally was live streamed on CHD TV.
The plaintiffs in both cases won an injunction on Nov. 13, which gave them the opportunity to reapply for a religious exemption. However, attorneys for the plaintiffs say this relief is not adequate.

Slovenia’s regulation forbidding people without ‘COVID certificates’ from pumping fuel shows governments are getting increasingly creative in their coercion.
It’s hard to know what’s real and what’s fake on the internet these days. So when I stumbled on a Twitter post that claimed automobile drivers in Slovenia were forbidden from pumping gas without a COVID certificate, I was skeptical.
All the tweets I found were screenshots of a single story published by TV N1 Zagreb, a news partner of CNN. Attempts to find information of this alleged regulation on the Slovenian government’s website didn’t go well (I don’t read Slovenian!), but I was able to find another story published by a separate Slovenian news organization.

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Gov. Kathy Hochul declared a “State of Emergency” Friday for the state of New York due to concerns over the newly-identified omicron variant of coronavirus.
The World Health Organization (WHO) named coronavirus (COVID-19) variant B.1.1.529 “omicron” on Friday, Nov. 26, calling it a variant of concern.
The declaration will go into effect on Dec. 3, and will be re-evaluated based on the latest COVID-19 data on Jan. 15. The emergency declaration will allow New York state to acquire more critical supplies to combat the pandemic, increase hospital capacity and address potential staffing shortages.

Officials announced Tuesday that the small city of Kemmerer, Wyoming would be the site of a new Bill Gates-backed nuclear power project—an initiative whose proponents say would provide climate-friendly and affordable energy but which some scientists warn is a dangerous diversion from true energy solutions.
The experimental Natrium nuclear power plant will be at the site of the coal-fired Naughton Power Plant, slated for retirement in 2025, though siting issues are not yet finalized. The company behind the project is TerraPower. Gates, who helped found TerraPower, is chairman of the board.

The Circuit Court of Cole County, Missouri, Judge Daniel R. Green presiding, has issued a sweeping judgement against Covid restrictions and mandates imposed by the Department of Health and Senior Services, November 22, 2021. Cole County is located in the center of the state and its largest city is Jefferson City, the state capital.
The decision begins: “This case is about whether Missouri’s Department of Health and Senior Services regulations can abolish representative government in the creation of public health laws, and whether it can authorize closure of a school or assembly based on the unfettered opinion of an unelected official. This Court finds it cannot.”
The case is decided on grounds that the edicts clearly violated the traditional separation of powers between the legislature and the executive. The legislature cannot surrender its power to make law to an unelected bureaucrat, either by constitutional tradition in a Republican form of government or under the Missouri Constitution.

(Pittsburgh) — Corrected data lowers the number of fully vaccinated Pennsylvania adults by nearly half a million people.
On Tuesday, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported that 73.7% of commonwealth residents who were 18 or older had passed this mark. On Wednesday, the day before the holiday weekend, that number was adjusted to 68.9% — a difference of more than 488,000 adults.
It’s unclear exactly how the error occurred. Pennsylvania’s health department sends its data to the CDC, but the state says it continues to refine its data and remove duplicate information, a process it started in July.

The COVID-19 Pfizer and Moderna mRNA vaccines “dramatically increase” a common measure of heart risk in people.
That’s according to a recently published “warning” in the journal Circulation by cardiologist Dr. Steven Gundry, who is called a pioneer in infant heart transplant surgery.The analysis was presented at the recent meeting of the American Heart Association.
The “dramatic changes in most patients” mean they are at higher risk of a new acute coronary syndrome, such as a heart attack, according to Gundry.

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Joe Biden will require essential, nonresident travelers crossing U.S. land borders, such as truck drivers, government and emergency response officials, to be fully vaccinated beginning on Jan. 22, the administration planned to announce.
A senior administration official said the requirement, which the White House previewed in October, brings the rules for essential travelers in line with those that took effect earlier this month for leisure travelers, when the U.S. reopened its borders to fully vaccinated individuals.

Several hundred Google employees have signed and circulated a manifesto opposing the company’s Covid vaccine mandate, posing the latest challenge for leadership as it approaches key deadlines for returning workers to offices in person.
The Biden administration has ordered U.S. companies with 100 or more workers to ensure their employees are fully vaccinated or regularly tested for Covid-19 by Jan. 4. In response, Google asked its more than 150,000 employees to upload their vaccination status to its internal systems by Dec. 3, whether they plan to come into the office or not, according to internal documents viewed by CNBC.

Bryan Adams, the fully vaccinated Canadian rocker, took to social media Thursday to announce that he has been diagnosed with COVID-19 for the second time in a month while visiting Italy to promote a new calendar.

National Guard officials refuse unlawful military vaccination mandates | added November 26

The refusal of the commander of the Oklahoma National guard to enforce the Pentagon’s Covid-19 vaccination mandate has opened up a dispute about the limits of the federal government’s authority and the chain of command of the military.
Brig. Gen. Thomas Mancino has refused to enforce the mandate since he took command of the unit last week, arguing that he answers to Oklahoma’s Republican Gov. Kevin Stitt who opposes it.

Olaf Scholz, Germany’s chancellor-designate, said Wednesday that the Covid situation was serious and that the country would massively push its vaccination campaign, noting that “vaccination is the way out of this pandemic.”

Federal health officials are urging Americans to shore up their immunity ahead of the winter holidays by getting a COVID-19 booster shot. But not everyone is working with the same defenses when it comes to keeping the virus at bay.
More than 47 million people in the U.S have already caught the coronavirus, at least according to officially recorded numbers. In reality, it’s probably many millions more.
Some undetermined share of those people are also vaccinated, meaning they now possess what scientists call hybrid immunity. After decades of refusing to comply with its obligations under the Endangered Species Act, the EPA on Nov.12 released its final biological evaluations for atrazine, glyphosate and simazine in order to comply with a 2016 legal agreement with the advocacy groups Center for Biological Diversity and Pesticide Action Network.
The EPA evaluations concluded that the chemicals are likely to adversely affect 1,676 animals and plants on the federal threatened or endangered species lists.

Fifty-five years. That’s how long the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) estimates it will need to fully release all documents connected to the approval of the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine.
In a court filing submitted Nov. 5 to a federal judge, the FDA stated it can process the 329,000 pages of documents at a rate of only 500 pages per month because it needs the time to redact exempt material. At that rate, the documentation will not be fully released until 2076.

The Biden administration is in full retreat over its unlawful vaccine mandate. After wreaking havoc on the U.S. economy for months by mandating federal contractors and businesses with more than 100 employees force employees to get ‘vaccinated’ for Covid-19, the White House is conceding it needs to suspend the authoritarian policy.
It was a bad sign for the ‘mandate’ when it was finally issued by OSHA a month and a half after the White House announced it in September. OSHA subsequently issued an Emergency Temporary Standard (ETS) that the federal courts have ripped to pieces as being entirely ungrounded in the law.
“In the order, the Fifth Circuit accuses the current administration of shoe-horning the desire for a federal vaccine mandate into the best, but ill-fitting, vehicle the administration could find – an OSHA ETS,” the National Law Review notes. “The court points out that OSHA’s authority to establish emergency temporary standards is ‘an extraordinary power that is to be delicately exercised’ and criticizes the ETS vaccine rule as ‘a one-size-fits-all sledgehammer that makes hardly any attempt to account for differences in workplaces’.”
“The Fifth Circuit questions whether OSHA has adequately shown a ‘grave danger’ warranting the issuance of an ETS and states that it is ‘dubious’ as to whether the rule will pass ‘constitutional muster’,” the legal analysts note.

Thanks to a ruling by a New York court, 15 teachers denied religious exemptions to the city’s COVID vaccine mandates will be allowed to re-apply through a new process that doesn’t violate the U.S. Constitution.
New York’s 2nd Circuit Court of Appeals on Nov. 13 granted a partial injunction to the educators, who had been placed on unpaid leave by the New York City Department of Education when their religious exemptions to vaccination were denied.
The court did not order that the educators be reinstated to their jobs, only that they be allowed to re-apply. The injunctive relief is temporary pending an emergency hearing to be held Nov. 22 on the merits of two cases before a new Second Circuit panel of judges.

On July 28, Pfizer and its partner BioNTech posted a six-month data update from their key Covid vaccine clinical trial, the one that led regulators worldwide to okay the shot.
At a time when questions about vaccine effectiveness were rising, the report received worldwide attention. Pfizer said the vaccine’s efficacy remained relatively strong, at 84 percent after six months.
It also reported 15 of the roughly 22,000 people who received the vaccine in the trial had died, compared to 14 of the 22,000 people who received placebo (a saline shot that didn’t contain the vaccine).

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) issued the emergency rule on Nov. 4 and it was almost immediately challenged. Since 2019, more than 320 toxic substances have been detected in U.S. drinking water systems, according to a new analysis by the Environmental Working Group (EWG), a nonprofit environmental advocacy organization.

The ruling from the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals in New Orleans represents a complete victory in this stage of the fight against the mandate. The court has ordered the Biden Administration to halt all enforcement of the mandate while legal challenges work their way through the federal court system. The ruling issued today by the Fifth Circuit was in direct response to the request for extended stay filed by the national law firm the Liberty Justice Center and the Louisiana-based Pelican Institute for Public Policy.

The FDA announced this week that the recall of more than 2.2 million at-home COVID-19 tests by digital diagnostics firm Ellume is being classified as a class 1 recall, which is the most serious type due to the potential for “serious adverse health consequences or death.”
Ellume’s at-home test detects proteins from the SARS-CoV-2 virus through a less invasive nasal swab than the one that health providers normally use.

The 490-page regulation will cover American businesses with at least 100 workers, or about 84 million employees in all. So the government will rely upon a corps of informers to identify violations of the order: Employees who will presumably be concerned enough to turn in their own employers if their co-workers go unvaccinated or fail to undergo weekly tests to show they’re virus-free.
What’s not known is just how many employees will be willing to accept some risk to themselves — or their job security — for blowing the whistle on their own employers. As the Delta wave of COVID-19 continues to decline from its mid-September peak in Washington state, many people are concerned about the declining efficacy of the three approved vaccines from the Food and Drug Administration. The government has authorized “at risk” patients to begin getting a booster shot of any of the Pfizer, Moderna, or Johnson and Johnson vaccines.
Yet an estimated 745,000 Washington citizens have already recovered from COVID-19 according to the Washington Department of Health (DOH). Their body has successfully fought the virus and has developed not only antibodies, but B and T cell lymphocytes to provide a defense should the individual encounter the virus again.
Last week, the DOH launched a new “vaccine verification” tool. The system provides a digital copy of state vaccine records according to the website. “You may also show your CDC provided COVID-19 card or your state immunization record,” the website states if you are required to show “proof” of vaccination status. There is no mention of natural immunity.

There’s no end in sight for higher prices. US consumer price inflation surged higher again in October, the Bureau of Labor Statistics reported Wednesday.
Over the past 12 months, prices climbed 6.2% — the biggest increase since November 1990.
Stripping out food and energy prices, which tend to be more volatile, the index rose 4.6% over the same period, the biggest jump since August 1991.

A California mom is accusing a CVS Pharmacy of giving her 16-year-old son the COVID-19 vaccine without her consent, according to a local report.
Amanda Arroyo told KOVR that her son made an appointment online to get the vaccine at a CVS Pharmacy in Davis, California.
“He was like, ‘My arm hurts,’ and I said, ‘What happened?’” Arroyo told the station. “And he was like, ‘I had my COVID shot,’ and I was like ‘Wait, what?’”

Each person with a “provable” injury from a Covid vaccine could claim up to $379,000 from a special Covid vaccine fund set up by the federal government. The payout for death could be as high as $370,376.

New York City will begin offering $100 to incentivize COVID-19 vaccines for kids ages 5-11.
“Everyone can use a little more money around the holidays but most importantly we want our kids and our families to be safe,” New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio said in a statement.
The new policy will apply to New York City-run vaccine sites and comes two days after the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention approved Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccine for emergency use for children 5-11-years-old.

MONTREAL — In an about-face, facing a drastic service reduction, Quebec has decided that health-care workers already employed won’t be forced to get a COVID-19 vaccine, the province’s health minister said Wednesday.
Health Minister Christian Dubé said that the province is facing 500 service reductions or reorganizations if it goes ahead with its planned Nov. 15 deadline for staff vaccines.
Instead of the previous plan, now only new hires will be required to be vaccinated, he said, though the province will try hard to replace those workers with vaccinated ones over time.

(WFSB) – Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccine has been approved for children ages 5 to 11, but a new survey shows why some parents are against it.
The survey was put out by QuoteWizard by LendingTree, LLC, which showed nationwide, 60% of people surveyed say concerns over side effects will keep them from vaccinating their children.
In Connecticut, the survey showed 65 percent are concerned about side effects, and 28 percent say they aren’t sure if children need the vaccine.
The survey went on to show that 37 percent are waiting to see if the vaccine is safe.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) vaccine advisory panel today unanimously recommended Pfizer’s COVID vaccine for children 5 to 11, despite concerns raised during the meeting about Pfizer’s clinical data, the fact that children who previously acquired natural immunity to COVID were included in clinical trials and evidence showing COVID poses little risk to children.
If Dr. Rochelle Walensky, the CDC’s director signs off on the decision, children ages 5 through 11 could start receiving COVID vaccines as early as tonight.
The younger age group will receive one-third of the dose authorized for those 12 and older in two shots at least three weeks apart. The doses will be delivered by smaller needles and stored in smaller vials to avoid a mix-up with adult doses.

PINELLAS PARK, Fla. — James Grambor has worked as a fabricator for defense contractor Lockheed Martin in Pinellas County for more than 17 years, but he took some time off his job on Wednesday afternoon to protest the pending mandate from his employer to get a COVID-19 vaccination next month.
“I’m very afraid of losing my job,” he said about his refusal to get vaccinated. “But not afraid enough to put something in me my religion stands against and that my morals stand against and ours should stand against.”
Similar protests by employees working for defense contractors have been taking place around the country. They began after President Joe Biden issued an executive order in September requiring federal contractors to ensure their employees are vaccinated against COVID-19 and following masking and social distancing policies. Adolescents had more than a mean 8 hours of screen time in the early pandemic period, almost doubling pre-pandemic totals, researchers found.
A large national sample of 5,412 adolescents found that mean screen time rose to 7.7 hours/day from pre-pandemic estimates of 3.8 hours/day at baseline, reported Jason Nagata, MD, of University of California San Francisco, and colleagues.
Moreover, adjusted models found that mental health and greater perceived stress were significantly associated with higher screen time, while more social support and coping behaviors were significantly associated with lower screen time, they wrote in a JAMA Pediatrics research letter.

The Lancet has just released another study comparing the efficacy of COVID vaccines to the efficacy of protection provided by previous COVID infections. Their conclusion: while vaccines lower the risk of infections with the delta variant within households, those who are fully vaccinated are still vulnerable to a ‘breakthrough’ infection if somebody they live with gets infected.
The new study, which was published Thursday in the Lancet, the British medical journal that published some of the earliest research on COVID, is one of few to use detailed infection data from actual examples of household transmission, and it showed that – as we noted above – the viral loads of both vaccinated and unvaccinated patients infected with COVID are “broadly similar”.
The data showed that vaccination status doesn’t make a whole lot of difference in the ability to pass COVID on to others.

(Bloomberg Law) — The Biden administration’s highly anticipated vaccine mandate rule for private-sector employers will allow businesses to force workers who refuse to get the Covid-19 shot to pay for required weekly tests and masks, two sources familiar with the matter said.
The emergency rule, which will apply to companies with at least 100 employees and is expected to be released next week, will give employers the option of paying for testing and masks for unvaccinated workers or compelling those employees to foot the bill themselves, according to the sources, who requested anonymity because they didn’t have approval to discuss the rulemaking.
Employers will be required to absorb testing and mask costs in cases where a worker qualifies for an exemption to vaccination under federal law, the sources said. For instance, employers could be required to finance testing and masks for a worker who is entitled to a religious exemption or to an accommodation under the Americans with Disabilities Act. Companies also may be ordered to pay when testing costs are subject to a union bargaining agreement.

WASHINGTON — At least 20 states have now filed lawsuits against the Biden administration’s COVID-19 vaccine mandate, with nearly all of them coming in a wave on Friday. It comes as federal workers have a few days left to get their final dose with federal contractor employees not too far behind.
Attorneys general from Alaska, Arkansas, Iowa, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, New Hampshire, North Dakota, South Dakota and Wyoming signed on to one lawsuit Friday, which was filed in a federal district court in Missouri. Another group of states including Georgia, Alabama, Idaho, Kansas, South Carolina, Utah and West Virginia filed a lawsuit in federal district court in Georgia.
The states asked a federal judge to block Democratic President Joe Biden’s requirement that all employees of federal contractors be vaccinated against the coronavirus by Dec. 8, arguing that the mandate violates federal procurement law and is an overreach of federal power.
