Jupiter in Cancer: Make it Happen
Dear Friend and Reader:
Jupiter arrives in Cancer on June 9, for the first time since 2013 — the Before Times, which nobody remembers. But you might have a flashback or two as Mercury and then Jupiter arrives in the first water sign, along with its 95 moons, its ring system and its perpetual anti-cyclone called the Great Red Spot.
[Special Report Coming Next Week: Digitally infused former Earthlings say that Jupiter is flat.]
Before I get into the astronomy and highfalutin theorizing, Jupiter in Cancer is about security, home, family and nourishment. Jupiter rules style, and in Cancer, its style is cozy, contained, and emotionally grounded. That’s the set of qualities and values to work with; that’s the time of the season.
I predict home cooking will have a trendy moment. If you Venmo your friends a bill for a dinner party, you will create karma that stalks you for the next three lifetimes.
Jupiter Rules the Solar System
Jupiter makes up 71% of the planetary mass of the solar system. Nearly all of the rest comes from Saturn, Uranus and Neptune, which are also involved in changing signs. If the Earth matters, it’s got nothing to do with its size.
At an astounding three-quarters of the total mass, it sets the orbits of all of the other planets, and regulates where they are. Jupiter protects the entire solar system from incoming objects that might strike other planets.
As planetary transits come, Jupiter in Cancer is good news. I know, you never hear me say that kind of thing. I’m too pragmatic, and I’m not thrilled with what’s happening on the planet right now. But as for whatever is happening in your world, Jupiter in Cancer can provide one of those moments when the rising tide lifts all ships.
This is a one-year transit, which will culminate with Jupiter making squares to the Chiron-Eris pairing this coming October and December and then July 2026. So this is a slow-build to big transformations and transitions. Jupiter square Chiron is exciting, but it’s several seasons in the future.
An Immediate Turning Point
However, then there is the short-range view. Speaking of squares, which are highly energetic 90-degree meetings, Jupiter in Cancer begins with making that aspect to Saturn and Neptune. That happens immediately. So there is a turning point right in the offing; work with it and not against it.
Squares often provoke or precipitate action. Jupiter square Saturn will be no exception. But simultaneous Jupiter square Neptune casts a fog over whatever situation you might be in, and so to make the most of this sequence of events, your active involvement is necessary.

Without writing my usual book-length tome, I’ll break this down to a few points.
— Stay away from “high hopes” and stick to the basics. Know what they are. By that, I mean actual necessities and improvements that are grounded in what is meaningful in the long-run.
— Make sure your expectations are grounded in something logical and reasonably well planned. I know there are people who thrive on flying by the seat of your skivvies, but Neptune is cautionary.
— Mainly it’s cautionary of blindspots and denial. Any time Neptune is involved, you must know when you don’t know. That’s a lot to ask in times when everyone thinks they are an expert in everything. The thing required is fact-checking yourself and knowing when you’re making an assumption.
— Most people have lost the plot on the difference between believing something and being right. There is a difference, and it matters.
— Focus on the underlying structure of all things: the commitment, the contract, the workflow, the cash flow, the building something exists in, and the timing factors involved.

— Take any opportunity to resolve a long-standing problem or situation and move on. Jupiter square Saturn has been calling for this since last year, and the time has arrived. The third of three Jupiter-Saturn squares is the last chance, the best of three or the only opportunity to do so.
— Make decisions consciously based on having multiple options. If you see only one option, use your creativity and make up a few others.
— Once the basics are covered, then you can build, grow and expand. But you can do none of those things if the basics and the structure do not exist, are not strong, or are ignored entirely.
Powerful forces are at work right now. You can flow with them or go against them. The key to any success or progress is a depth of self-awareness that is nearly nonexistent in the digital age. In fact it is the very essence of the digital age.

With love,
Your faithful astrologer,

Aries (March 20-April 19) — You finally may feel the opening that’s been there all along, which is inviting you to express who you are and what you feel. What was in the way? The issue was probably courage, which is an old word meaning ‘coming from the heart’. I don’t mean anything you could find in a greeting card. I don’t mean bravery of the kind where everyone is cheering. It’s more like walking in the dark wondering where the edge is, but it’s not dark — you’re out in the open where everyone can see you and you might feel like they can see what you’re thinking. That’s the moment where you have to follow your heart, especially when it’s jumping around in your throat. That’s the time to breathe — when you barely can. And when you’re right there, that’s the time to pop the question: “Am I having fun yet?” Yes, shaking and all.

Taurus (April 19-May 20) — Take advantage of your sense of urgency and get the words out, especially if you don’t really know how you actually feel a few layers down. Spoken words evaporate; written words must be addressed a second time — that is, if you dare to read them. Writing would be more effective than speaking, since your emotions are cyclical. You need to see the patterns over some period of days or weeks. An emotionally complicated relationship situation is likely to be serving as a projection screen; your mantra might be “It’s not about him/her; it’s about me.” To see and understand what is happening, claim the scenario as your own creative property. Look at the scenario and imagine you wrote the script, even if you can’t remember when. Now, what is the next act? All those changes you’ve been wanting to make — write them in.
Gemini (May 20-June 21) — Offering assurance at this edgy time in history may not go so far, but please allow me to say that the situation you’re concerned about will work out as long as you have just a little faith. If you’re concerned about someone’s judgment about a choice you want to make, remember that it’s your decision. That’s a moral responsibility that you possess and they do not, since it’s not anyone else’s life. When you make a decision honestly, there’s just one basis for doing so: your own priorities and values. The beauty of making a decision (rather than allowing some computer app to do it for you, as we are being sold at the moment) is you get to find out what your priorities and values are. There might be a struggle here and it’s a positive thing if there is. Stay on the level with yourself at all times.

Cancer (June 21-July 22) — Glory be — Jupiter is about to arrive in your sign. This describes both potential and actual results; this is a visitation from one of the gods of change who will help you invite the shifts you want to create. And you will have many opportunities to define yourself in new ways (which is the essence of this transit). While Jupiter arrives in your sign (or rising sign as the case may be) every 12 years, the current version has a distinction: Saturn and Neptune are also active on the worldly achievement angle of your chart, which is Aries (house 10). What may seem like conditions on your good fortune are actually the structures you are working within, and these are vital to your success. It will help to have tangible goals that you connect with motives. And what comes beyond meeting any specific goal? Where would success lead you? What is your concept of thriving?

Leo (July 22-Aug. 23) — Any meaningful experience of ‘spiritual’ comes from inside of your own awareness. Not recognizing this is a problem that long precedes the digital age (where it’s currently raging). The Bible, for example, is chapter after chapter of the claimed experiences and revelations of people besides yourself. And that is taken as a testament or evidence of something. You don’t need testaments, books or proof of any kind; no story will suffice. Stick with yourself and feel the presence of protection and wisdom awakening within you. Explore the ordinary world and know that you’re a seeker and not a missionary. Within the realm of faith, there is no proof; there is no convincing you, or anyone; and yet you must go beyond belief as a standard of truth. Be discerning; if you meet the Buddha, ask him a few focused questions — which I suggest you prepare in advance.

Virgo (Aug. 23-Sep. 22) — Your rational mind was not made to handle the overload of the times we’re living in. Yet intelligence defies guessing and speculation. Right now you stand in the balance between two approaches to reality. One of them wants tangible, rational answers, like the solution to a mathematical equation. The other wants to just know. These approaches can be integrated. For example, it’s possible to collect facts and assemble them into a pattern. Then you can make an interpretation. A helpful interpretation accounts for all of the available facts. This will tell you most of what you need to know. Maybe there will be an outlier or two; a fact you don’t understand or that does not seem to fit the pattern. Those are the most important ones to work with. Don’t be frustrated, or throw them out. If you don’t understand something, look right at it and say so. Do not skip steps.

Libra (Sep. 22-Oct. 23) — Saturn has entered your opposite sign Aries, and this will provide clarity in a diversity of situations that have defied comprehension. You need to know about these things, so don’t resist making the discoveries you need to make. Some of these may feel like a veil is being lifted from your eyes. Others may seem like common-sense revelations of the variety of, how could I have missed that? Saturn grants discernment to an angle of your perception where you need it most, in relationships and partnerships. And Saturn’s presence will tend to clear space, both physical and emotional. There are relationships that you’re in that you don’t need to be in; and those are taking up room for what you want and what you need. If something does not serve you, allow it to fall away. But remember, you will be required to honor commitments or get out of them consciously.

Scorpio (Oct. 23-Nov. 22) — Professional responsibilities rise to the top of your agenda, despite the beautiful weather and the chaotic state of society. Do not be distracted from doing what you need to do. By distracted, I mean by what does not matter much or what is just self-serving. Face the fact that you have tangible obligations to others, and be grateful that they’re in your life. If your work gives you the feeling of being needed, then value that specific thing about what you do every day. There is a crucial connection to your self-esteem here. Too often, respecting yourself is connected to a feeling of power or something someone convinced you that you deserve. I suggest building your self-esteem on what you accomplish; on the service that you provide; and on your ability to live up to your responsibilities. You may already understand this, and if so, you don’t need to be reminded — so be it.

Sagittarius (Nov. 22-Dec. 22) — Very little is handed to anyone on this planet. Sure, there are trust fund kids (who become adults), and mostly they are miserable for lack of purpose. They are miserable for lack of purpose and no sense of having earned everything. Except for this small minority, you either earn your keep and build your wealth, or you steal from those who have. So be happy if you feel like you have to prove yourself and your value. Only in God’s eyes and maybe your mother’s do you have worth “for who you are.” For just about everyone else, there is no such thing. Assume you have to demonstrate your value, your commitment to what you do for your own sake, and your loyalty to a purpose larger than yourself. You might take pride in those things, but I don’t recommend it. Take pride in your tangible accomplishments that benefit others, and facilitate your self-improvement.

Capricorn (Dec. 22-Jan. 20) — Saturn and Jupiter change signs within two weeks of one another, and this is happening now. And these transits are going to shift, lift or jolt you out of any ruts you’ve been in. Because you’re born under a cardinal sign, and Jupiter and Saturn are entering cardinal signs, these changes will benefit you directly. They pertain mostly to personal matters: the situation with your home and your household, and your relationships. Everything stands to benefit, if you go with the changes rather than resisting them. You might be wondering how opportunities so large could be hidden just out of sight. Yet this also shows how much is possible and how much can reveal itself with just a slight change of perspective or the passage of even a little time. Keep what you want in mind; you will be presented with options and need some basis to choose.

Aquarius (Jan. 20-Feb. 19) — Saturn has now entered Aries, your mental and language-centered 3rd place. This will serve you well, as both Saturn and Aries are your friends. You have a lot of ideas; in fact you’re the original “idea person” of the astrological coloring book. Saturn is the taskmaster that turns ideas into tangible reality. So you’re in luck if that’s what you want or need to do. Other factors will get you interested in focusing on your work, so, all the better. The element you will need to invoke consciously is your imagination. It shows up in the planetary pattern as Neptune in Aries. Part of what you’re imagining is who you are. Be bold about that; Saturn will correct any excesses or delusional thinking, while leaving the essence of your ideas available. Think of the Saturn-Neptune pairing in Aries as helping you use your discernment and seek clarity, both about who you are and what you do.

Pisces (Feb. 19-March 20) — Both of your ruling planets are in the process of changing signs: Neptune making its way into Aries, and Jupiter making a bold splash into your fellow water sign Cancer. And while Saturn seems to be urging caution and the need to “curb your enthusiasm” as the old expression goes, in truth, your creativity is leading the way. Go beyond what you think is possible. Go beyond what you think can happen because it already has. Though it may seem impossible now based on the difficulty of the past couple of years, whole new worlds of possibilities are opening up for you, and will continue to do so as the season progresses — and well into next year. So you will need to be patient, but overall, not so much really because one good thing will build on another. Just make sure you’re being prudent and fully conscious where financial matters are concerned.
