To Water the Soul: New Moon in Pisces

“Down on the lake rosy reflections of celestial vapor appeared,
and I said, ‘God, I love you’ and looked to the sky and really meant it.
‘I have fallen in love with you, God. Take care of us all, one way or the other.’
To the children and the innocent it’s all the same.”
― Jack Kerouac

Baby what a New Moon.

Saturday, March 13 at 5:21 am Eastern time, the Moon conjoins the Sun in Pisces to give birth to the lunar cycle we’ll ride into the Astrological New Year.

Packaged in with the Sun-Moon conjunction are Neptune and Venus, who unite in their own conjunction by 11:08 pm.

The relationship between Venus and Neptune mirrors Pisces’ relationship with itself, and a message woven into this lunation warrants unpacking that a little.

Symbolized by two fish joined together, one swimming upward and the other along a linear path, Pisces embodies the duality of soul and personality — the aspect of each of us that’s united with the Transcendent, All that Is, God Goddess Source, What-Have-You — and the personality, with all its karma and drama.

Venus expresses attraction, affection; signals all that brings pleasure, comfort; which connects us with others and with beauty. In itself, these are experienced on a level of personality. This planetary goddess is considered ‘raised up’ or exalted in the sign of Pisces, for under that ray Venus taps into higher realms, and can respond with exquisite sensitivity and compassion.

Neptune is the ‘higher octave’ of Venus. In its most positive expression, Neptune brings the experience of union with the divine, in one form or another. It’s the channel through which agape, or universal, unconditional love is reached. Venus is worldly, Neptune, otherworldly. Venus rules the arts; Neptune the inspiration through which the creator transcends personality, where, in those jewel-like moments of greatness, the artist becomes a vehicle for more than the self alone.

And, like Pisces, these two together have dual manifestations.

“Wherein lies happiness? In that which becks
Our ready minds to fellowship divine,
A fellowship with essence; till we shine,
Full alchemiz’d, and free of space. Behold
The clear religion of heaven!”

Mysterium Fascinosum

John Keats, Romantic poet, mystic, and tragic lover extraordinaire had Venus conjunct Neptune in Scorpio. He expressed that melting ecstasy and rapture in both transpersonal and personal devotions.

“My creed is Love and you are its only tenet – You have ravished me away by a Power I cannot resist…I cannot exist without you – I am forgetful of everything but seeing you again – my Life seems to stop there – I see no further.”

The shadow side of Venus-Neptune channels the need for love which no human can fulfill, the core need for connection with Source, into projections upon romantic partners, real or imagined, so it becomes impossible to see the object of affection in anything but an idealized state. Fantasies and impossible expectations do not happily-ever-after make, and lovesickness can become an addiction leading to loss of self.

Worldly desire and divine longing; illusion, escape and self-deception can trap those unable to recognize the difference and honor them both. We are spirit and we are flesh. Though one half of that equation has been denied in our culture, to our peril.

Yet personal love is not some profane second-best to a ‘divine love’ that’s sacred. Human relationships are the greatest teacher available to us; where the rubber meets the road. They are a means through which we connect with the One Force which sustains and propels. Vitamin L is the essential nutrient — physical immunity is affected by how full that tank is.

The Holy Well

This New Moon says, “fill your tank.”

The world is withering with emotional dryness. Our distressed planet is evidence enough, if you need any.

Whoever and wherever you are: water your soul.

There are rebirths in play, and we need you hydrated.

You know what helps you get there; what you need. It may seem … inconvenient, too small to count, maybe too far away from where you’ve been; the inertia of routine might feel too powerful to overcome. Do it. Take some deliberate action and plant that seed. Relationship of one kind or another is important, connecting with friends who resonate on a soul level fits that bill. Creative work can, too; pouring your heart into something — prayer; walks in nature — communion is what’s necessary. Opening the heart beyond your habitual set-point.

Perhaps the most amazing healer I’ve known calls the heart ‘the collective she.’ Regardless of whether one is male or female, everyone’s heart is a ‘she.’

Between the Past and the Future

This New Moon, with Venus lifted to silvery heights, is followed by the Sun-Venus conjunction in Aries on March 25-6.  Then on March 28, the Venus-ruled Full Moon in Libra stars Venus exactly conjunct Chiron.

Veiled by the Sun’s rays, Venus is now invisible. When we see that most beautiful star again it will be around Beltane; the first days of May. She reappears in the evening sky dignified in her feminine home sign of Taurus.

Before then, Venus goes through an alchemical process. The crucible at the Full Moon, conjunct the Sun and Chiron, is part of it.

Perhaps the most amazing healer I’ve known calls the heart ‘the collective she.’ Regardless of whether one is male or female, everyone’s heart is a ‘she.’

What leads to the withering dryness of the soul, the emotional desert in which so many wander?

This is a special New Moon. It occurs right at the mid-point of the square between Saturn and Uranus, the defining aspect of 2021.

Everybody hurts. Battles take a toll. Life on earth is not for sissies.

And the denial which conceals our wounds keeps a scathing status quo humming along like some perpetual motion machine.

This is a special New Moon. It occurs right at the mid-point of the square between Saturn and Uranus, the defining aspect of 2021.  Right at the fulcrum between past and future. Between restriction and freedom.

Our world is in need of soul retrieval.

This is the New Moon to actually make time for some kind of ritual planting. To identify one thing you know will help the divine she that is your heart to lift, and what you need to get there.

This is the time to water your soul with loving care, knowing that healing – real healing – requires the sacred marriage between you and You.
