Creative freedom is ultimately a gift you must give yourself. It requires courage and nurturance of your unique individuality. This is a year to encourage self-expression, including within personal relationships. You can’t hide what you really feel, nor should you. A few notes of caution are worth remembering, however. Be honest with yourself: romantic fantasies do not a true love make, and escapism does not foster artistry. Know your real values, and keep your wits regarding material security.

Your sign hosts the other major conjunction that bookends this year: Jupiter conjunct Saturn, the traditional ruler of Aquarius. That event is exact on Dec. 21, 2020. Before we get to that stunning conjunction, Saturn enters your sign on March 21. So you’ll have much of this year to get busy discovering Saturn’s gifts — which can be considerable.

Today the Sun reaches the midpoint of Aquarius: the middle of the current season, and therefore a turning point. The ancient Pagans celebrated it as Imbolc.

Here in the Northern Hemisphere, we’re “in the belly” of winter but spring’s first stirrings are preparing themselves. Whether you live in a climate that is cold or hot this time of year, you can still use the imagery as a point of orientation.

For example, what might you be incubating in terms of your next phase of growth, even if you’re not quite at the point of taking visible steps? What feelings accompany those thoughts and plans? Can you name them, or are they hard to pin down?

On a related note, Venus in Pisces is making a square to the Galactic Core (the center of our galaxy, and a spiritual ‘homing signal’). Venus relates to feelings, especially in Pisces; the Galactic Core can signify profound insights, but also the sense of something too massive to grasp fully.

Consider the word yugen. Yugen is a Japanese word that describes an awareness of the universe that triggers an emotional response — how one feels when considering things too big to comprehend. Rather than being overwhelming, this could actually be quite beautiful, and may lend itself to creating art.

Today’s Gemini Moon might help facilitate the verbal articulation of feelings. Yet Mercury, newly in Pisces, describes a tendency to feel thoughts and respond to them instinctually rather than intellectually. If at any time you’re unsure what, exactly, you’re reacting to, that’s a sign to slow down and trace the connections — with your feet firmly planted on the soon-to-be stirring ground.
