When you are struggling with something, ask yourself: Is this mine, or did it come from someone else? If you contemplate that carefully, and search your family references, you may make a series of important discoveries. Before you give anything back, it’s very helpful to claim the gifts and accept what it’s taught you.
Aries (March 20-April 19) — By some estimates, 90% of the baggage we carry through life comes from our ancestors. There is no way to quantify this scientifically, though you might consider that much of what you struggle with is not really yours. Some call it karma, some call it genetics and some call it conditioning. It’s probably all three. The question is, what to do about it. Like any inheritance, it’s yours, and then it’s your responsibility. But it helps to know that much you struggle with did not come from you. That, at least, frames it in some context and gives you the basis for sorting things out. And your best tool in that sorting process is, when you are struggling with something, ask yourself: Is this mine, or did it come from someone else? If you contemplate that carefully, and search your family references, you may make a series of important discoveries. Before you give anything back, it’s very helpful to claim the gifts and accept what it’s taught you.
One of the most important themes of your life so far has been the need to “keep your heart open in hell,” as Melanie Reinhart put it so eloquently. She has been speaking of Sedna in Taurus, the last holdout of 1960s astrology — now dissolving into Gemini.
Taurus (April 19-May 20) — One of the most important themes of your life so far has been the need to “keep your heart open in hell,” as Melanie Reinhart put it so eloquently. She has been speaking of Sedna in Taurus, the last holdout of 1960s astrology — now dissolving into Gemini. With this transition, we have all been through a rather rough patch, and it’s been challenging to keep your heart open. Gradually, you are once again learning to do so, and by that, I mean without conditions imposed. Yet has this state of being been at the forefront of your life plan? Or are you more inclined to turn away from the pain of the world and even people you’re not immediately aware of? More depends on this ability than you may imagine: the willingness and skill of being tuned into the pain and needs of others. That your needs and many of your desires are more or less taken care of is a given; that is never the determining factor of your generosity. Something else is.
If you’re wondering what is missing from your relationships, I have a possible clue. We are much closer to generations past than we think. And the people of those eras, from whom we are descended, had much stronger social fabric around their communities and their family relationships.
Gemini (May 20-June 21) — If you’re wondering what is missing from your relationships, I have a possible clue. We are much closer to generations past than we think. It only seems like it was a while ago. And the people of those eras, from whom we are descended, had much stronger social fabric around their communities and their family relationships. We don’t have the benefits of enforced tradition in our time. Yet we are freed of many of their burdens as well. It’s not so easy to feel that freedom as a benefit; it takes some creativity to make the most of (for example) having nowhere to go on a national family holiday. You have been cut free from many oppressive bonds over the past decade of your life; it’s happened so slowly you may not have noticed. But you still have some, and this year would be a good one to refresh those connections, whether or not you would next time. Direct experience is essential.
You gain a lot when you go from a perceived need to recognizing a sincere desire. You’re strong in desire; there is fulfillment possible where desire is wholly honest.
Cancer (June 21-July 22) — You may be called upon to give up something you don’t need, but to which you were attached. This will teach you a few things, most particularly about the concept of need itself. The word is grossly overused, to the point where most people are prisoners of the idea. You gain a lot when you go from a perceived need to recognizing a sincere desire. You’re strong in desire; there is fulfillment possible where desire is wholly honest. Our ancestors knew how to do something that we in the 21st century alleged civilization do not — and that is how to make do. We have had conditioned out of us nearly all ingenuity; all natural curiosity; all desire to know more for its own sake. Somewhere outside the orbit of both need and want is curiosity. All three experiences can propel learning (about yourself and the world). But of them, curiosity is the most effective, and the most pleasant. It’s the distinction of a liberated, happy mind.
You can walk into any room, or any situation, or be in any discussion with any person, and ask yourself what you want to be there, or what loss you sense. Take it slow; study the pattern. There is a message.
Leo (July 22-Aug. 23) — Go deeper if you want to understand the hunger that is propelling you. It may feel like one thing, and is really another. If you recognize that you have different possible expressions of the same feeling, you will notice more options. For example, what may feel like raw hormonal sexual desire is meaningful; honoring (admitting, or acting upon) it can be helpful merely because you’re being honest with yourself, based on your present awareness. Take that awareness deeper (“follow it in,” as is said in good therapy) and you may realize you’re being moved by a sense of something missing; a sense of grief, or of deep emotional longing connected to family. I suggest you keep a close emotional pulse on what you sense is missing. You can walk into any room, or any situation, or be in any discussion with any person, and ask yourself what you want to be there, or what loss you sense. Take it slow; study the pattern. There is a message.
Make sure you have enough food in your home, and by enough, I mean enough of the basics and plenty that you just like. Then you will feel better about financial questions that may arise, including the drive to have more.
Virgo (Aug. 23-Sep. 22) — Make sure you have enough food in your home, and by enough, I mean enough of the basics and plenty that you just like. Then you will feel better about financial questions that may arise, including the drive to have more. Whenever you want more, look in your fridge or pantry and say to yourself, “I’ll eat just fine [today, this week, this month. etc.].” This will cool off your sense of urgency and allow you to focus on certain preferences you might otherwise overlook. I’ll use another metaphor: imagine you’ve just caught up or even gotten ahead on a lot of necessary work. At that point you can ask yourself, “What do I want to do now?” and give yourself an honest answer. Ah but how often do you really get there? How often can you act on a preference rather than a seeming urgent necessity? You will need to suspend your uniquely Virgoan sense of duty to get a true answer.

You’re in a moment where you can allow your entirely positive side to shine. It’s true that the world is a mess, and yet you seem to have a handle on yourself and your affairs. You are therefore available to help others.
Libra (Sep. 22-Oct. 23) — You’re in a moment where you can allow your entirely positive side to shine. It’s true that the world is a mess, and yet you seem to have a handle on yourself and your affairs (give yourself a little more credit than you think you deserve). You are therefore available to help others. You are available to take leadership and are probably already doing so. Remember that you set an example in all that you do, and all that you reveal. The state of the world around us is leading many to feel defeated. Yet this is an indication that you must pay attention to the world within you, and the way you orient yourself in existence. If you feel the need to do battle with someone or something, pause and ask yourself why that is. I assure you, no campaign of battle is necessary. What seems to be outside you is not as exotic as it may appear. The ways of others are not so strange.

You may recognize your need to tune into the messages of your body and the energy that moves through it. You are not wholly alienated from yourself. Be grateful you have the capacity for actual human sensations and desires.
Scorpio (Oct. 23-Nov. 22) — Scorpio is said to be one of the more emotional signs, though that does not necessarily mean that you feel. As we go deeper into the digital age, feeling is being conditioned out of the human experience; or perhaps noticing feeling is being filtered. You may recognize your need to tune into the messages of your body and the energy that moves through it. Yet in these benighted days, the problem with feeling is that it would lead to so much sadness and grief. Once that begins, you may fear, it would never end. Though if you actually notice what is going on within your deeper layers of awareness, you will not drown. You contain yourself and can hold any internal experience that you have. You are not wholly alienated from yourself. Be grateful you have the capacity for actual human sensations and desires.

It will be worth getting up early and finding your way to a lake, a stream, a river or a shore of some kind, and being alone with your thoughts and your feelings. You may discover that a relatively small matter was magnifying itself like a shadow on the wall, cast by a candle.
Sagittarius (Nov. 22-Dec. 22) — The last few days before the Sun enters your sign are always a combination of strange and intense. This is especially true now, with a diversity of factors raising the pressure and the emotional stakes. You may not even know what you’re feeling, much less understand it, though pausing to reflect would make a good start. See if you can get yourself to a body of water — any one will do — and reflect quietly, perhaps in the hours just after sunrise. It will be worth getting up early and finding your way to a lake, a stream, a river or a shore of some kind, and being alone with your thoughts and your feelings. You may discover that a relatively small matter was magnifying itself like a shadow on the wall, cast by a candle. Take a good look at it and ease through the next few days until the Sun enters Sagittarius (at about 10 am Eastern Time on Nov. 22).

The four weeks that the Sun will be transiting Sagittarius are an important time for you to go deep into your spiritual nature — which is like filling your personal well. It’s always better if you spend minimal time around anyone or anything that might distract you.
Capricorn (Dec. 22-Jan. 20) — Get about in the world as much as you can. Once the Sun encounters the highly sensitive “inner life” angle of your chart on the 22nd, you may feel like staying home. Meanwhile, the Sun’s movement through passionate Scorpio is inviting you out. The four weeks that the Sun will be transiting Sagittarius are an important time for you to go deep into your spiritual nature — which is like filling your personal well. It’s always better if you spend minimal time around anyone or anything that might distract you. Until then, you can feed yourself by being among people you may not know so well — for example, being invited to events where you may encounter a new but partially overlapping circle of friends. Your astrology is calling on you to be bold, not bashful. Then soon, it will summon you in the opposite direction.
There are several possibilities here, though the essence is this: you must learn not to feel guilty about succeeding in ways that your parents did not, or could not. Grant yourself the space to be free to make your decisions, your way.
Aquarius (Jan. 20-Feb. 19) — A great many people use success to process grief. I suggest you keep them in their own compartments for now. The challenge is that intense emotional energy can offer a lot of propulsion. You will still have the benefits of that, even if you take the time to look at why it is you’re feeling so much. The essential key is not detaching from yourself. You have so much throughput at the moment that you absolutely must stay in contact with your inner guidance. And the way to do that is to stop and pause and ask yourself why you’re feeling the way you are. Note that this can go back to your parents’ generation, and may specifically involve your mom or your sentiments about her. There are several possibilities here, though the essence is this: you must learn not to feel guilty about succeeding in ways that your parents did not, or could not. Grant yourself the space to be free to make your decisions, your way.
There may be some facts about your sexual or erotic nature that it’s time to reveal within your circle of friends. I am not talking about a political stance or an identity, I am talking about the truth of your core inner nature.
Pisces (Feb. 19-March 20) — The more of yourself you reveal, the more comfortable with yourself you will be. Self-consciousness (which is different from self-awareness) is the sensation of needing to hide what you feel may be plainly visible. This creates an inner disturbance that is, in itself, a form of discomfort. You can try pushing some limits and getting out of your so-called comfort zone. There may be some facts about your sexual or erotic nature that it’s time to reveal within your circle of friends. I am not talking about a political stance or an identity, I am talking about the truth of your core inner nature — the stuff that you hardly ever hear about. This is the same material everyone claims to be made uncomfortable by, and which they are equally fascinated by. For you, this is about claiming something within yourself that will be all-the-more real (and therefore a source of strength) if it resonates within your community.
