One in seven of all tests in the state over the past 24 hours came back positive as the disease spreads through the community like wildfire. NSW has recorded 21,151 new Covid-19 cases and six deaths but hospitalisations have remained stable.

[Dec. 18, 2021] On Friday, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) alerted clinical laboratory staff and health care providers that false reactivity, or “false-positive”, Rapid Plasma Reagin (RPR; non-treponemal) test results, when using the Bio-Rad Laboratories BioPlex 2200 Syphilis Total & RPR kit, can occur in some people who received a COVID-19 vaccine.Based on information provided by the manufacturer, Bio-Rad Laboratories, RPR false reactivity was observed in some individuals for at least five months following a COVID-19 vaccination.
More research is underway to determine the extent of the issue. It is not known if other RPR tests may be affected similarly. Treponemal testing for syphilis such as Treponema pallidum particle agglutination (TP-PA) and treponemal immunoassays do not appear to be impacted by this issue.

The story has been picked up by other outlets too, with the Metro headlining: ‘More than 500 children admitted to hospital with Covid in Christmas week.’
Other publications cited “concerning data” that 50 babies had been admitted to hospital with Covid on Christmas day alone. But is any of this true? In short, no. It is a meaningless number created by deliberately misleading statistical definitions.

According to Brook Jackson, a whistleblower who worked on Pfizer’s Phase 3 COVID jab trial in the fall of 2020, data were falsified, patients were unblinded, the company hired poorly trained people to administer the injections, and follow-up on reported side effects was significantly delayed.
Her testimony was published November 2, 2021, in The British Medical Journal by investigative journalist Paul Thacker, who noted that:
“For researchers who were testing Pfizer’s vaccine at several sites in Texas during that autumn, speed may have come at the cost of data integrity and patient safety … Staff who conducted quality control checks were overwhelmed by the volume of problems they were finding.”

Israel has approved a fourth vaccine dose for residents who are most vulnerable to COVID-19, officials said Thursday. Israel, which is one of the first countries to authorize a fourth dose, made the decision as it braces for a wave of infections fueled by the Omicron variant.
Nachman Ash, the director general of Israel’s Health Ministry, announced the decision at a press conference, saying the doses would initially be given to those with weakened immune systems.
“We will continue to track the data on a daily basis and we will see if we need to broaden this recommendation to more of the population,” he said.
Marines discharge over 200 troops for refusing the drug inoculation | added December 31

The Marine Corps announced Thursday that it has kicked out more troops for refusing the Covid-19 vaccine. The total number of discharges has risen to 206, up from 169 last week.
The fiscal 2022 National Defense Authorization Act, which President Joe Biden signed into law Monday, dictates that the military services cannot dishonorably discharge members for vaccine refusal. The discharges must be either honorable or general under honorable conditions.
Overall, 95 percent of all active-duty Marines have received at least the first dose, while 86 percent of the Reserve force has received the first shot. The service received 3,247 requests for religious accommodation, with 3,115 of those having been processed and zero requests approved citing readiness concerns. The Marine Corps has 1,007 administrative or medical exemptions.

The federal government should consider requiring Covid-19 vaccines for domestic flights, the nation’s top infectious disease expert said Monday.
“When you make vaccinations a requirement, that’s another incentive to get more people vaccinated,” said Dr. Anthony Fauci in an interview on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe.” “If you want to do that with domestic flights, I think that’s something that seriously should be considered.”

A Burger King in Brooklyn was the site of an anti-vaccine protest Monday night that sparked a large police response and resulted in five arrests, a report said.
The New York Post reported that a video of the protest circulated online and showed maskless participants shouting at employees who did not serve them. The paper pointed out that the city’s mandate requires that all dine-in guests show a proof of vaccination.
Some people outside the restaurant shouted “shame on you” to the arresting officers. The NYPD did not immediately respond to an after-hours email from Fox News. The paper said those arrested were issued desk appearance tickets and were charged with trespassing.

Nearly 500 more people have wrongly been told their COVID-19 test result was negative in another error by a Sydney testing lab.
On Tuesday afternoon SydPath, the facility that operates pathology services at St Vincent’s Hospital Sydney, issued a statement to confirm that 486 of an additional 950 people who had been sent a text message “prematurely” had been validated as COVID-positive.
The SMS told all 950 recipients they were negative for the virus when, in fact, 486 were positive. These people were tested on December 22, 23 and 24. They have all since been issued their accurate test results.

[Dec. 21, 2021] WASHINGTON—The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) today announced it will not cancel or impose further restrictions on its 2020 registration of over-the-top (OTT) spraying of dicamba pesticides on crops genetically engineered to withstand them.This announcement comes alongside a new EPA report finding that control measures in EPA’s latest, October 2020 dicamba registration decision failed to reduce the number, severity, or geographic extent of dicamba-related incidents in comparison to reports from prior seasons. As the Omicron variant continues to sweep across the U.S., especially in the Northeast, unvaccinated people of all ages are at increased risk — including children. The U.S. is averaging 260 pediatric COVID-19 hospitalizations a day, up nearly 30% from last week.
Health officials say pediatric hospitalizations in New York City rose nearly five-fold from the start of December. Almost all of those children were unvaccinated.

[Dec. 22, 2021] RUTLAND, Vt. (WCAX) – Some Vermonters who are able to find antigen tests and then test positive are clogging up emergency rooms. The emergency department at the Rutland Regional Medical Center has been overwhelmed with asymptomatic folks.Dr. Rick Hildebrant is RRMC’s medical director. He says some people who test positive with a rapid test go to the emergency room looking for a PCR test. The Vermont Hospital Association says it’s hearing similar stories from other parts of the state.
Hildebrant says those who are asymptomatic and receive a positive antigen test should stay home and reach out to their primary care provider. He says the only time to go to the ER is if you have a positive test and are very sick.

The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on Monday shortened the recommended times that people should isolate when they’ve tested positive for Covid-19 from 10 days to five days if they don’t have symptoms — and if they wear a mask around others for at least five more days.
The CDC also shortened the recommended time for people to quarantine if they are exposed to the virus to a similar five days if they are vaccinated. People who are fully vaccinated and boosted may not need to quarantine at all, the CDC said.
“Given what we currently know about COVID-19 and the Omicron variant, CDC is shortening the recommended time for isolation from 10 days for people with COVID-19 to five days, if asymptomatic, followed by five days of wearing a mask when around others,” the CDC said in a statement.

The COVID-19 vaccine shots won’t be enough to combat the omicron variant, according to Ugur Sahin, the CEO of vaccine developer BioNTech.
“We must be aware that even triple-vaccinated are likely to transmit the disease,” he told French daily Le Monde.
Sahin said vaccine efficacy has been dropping against omicron, which is a sign that the vaccines aren’t enough, according to Euro News. That’s why consistent testing is important for monitoring the spread of the virus, he said. Indeed, a recent study from researchers at Columbia University suggested that the omicron variant of COVID-19 is “markedly resistant” to the COVID-19 vaccines, antibody treatments and COVID-19 vaccine booster shots, as I wrote for the Deseret News.

Two college football bowl games were canceled on Sunday and the fate of another hung in the balance, as Covid-19 outbreaks continued to wreak havoc on the sport.
The University of Miami announced Sunday night that its Hurricanes would not travel to El Paso, Texas, to play in the Tony the Tiger Sun Bowl against Washington State on Friday.
The Sun Bowl, played annually since 1935, is one the nation’s four oldest bowl games. However, many people prescribed Pfizer’s or Merck’s new medications will require careful monitoring by doctors and pharmacists, and the antivirals may not be safe for everyone, experts caution.
The Food and Drug Administration authorized Pfizer’s Paxlovid for mild to moderate Covid in people as young as 12 who have underlying conditions that raise the risk of hospitalization and death from the coronavirus, such as heart disease or diabetes. However, one of the two drugs in the antiviral cocktail could cause severe or life-threatening interactions with widely used medications, including statins, blood thinners and some antidepressants. And the FDA does not recommend Paxlovid for people with severe kidney or liver disease.
Because of experts’ concerns about the potential side effects of Merck’s molnupiravir, the FDA has restricted its use to adults and only in scenarios in which other authorized treatments, including monoclonal antibodies, are inaccessible or are not “clinically appropriate.”

Japan’s Chief Cabinet Secretary Hirokazu Matsuno said on Thursday that the government would not be amending its current COVID-19 protocols despite the fact that local transmission of the omicron variant has been detected in the country, Reuters reported.
The first cases of the omicron variant were detected on Wednesday in Osaka among a family of three. An additional case of the variant was discovered on Thursday in a woman in her 20s in the Kyoto prefecture, the wire service noted.

New York state reported a record-breaking 28,000 new COVID cases Wednesday, but hospitalization rates are thankfully remaining somewhat stable, Gov. Kathy Hochul said at a press conference.
Hochul announced there are currently 4,452 people hospitalized with COVID statewide, around two-thirds less than the April 2020 peak of 14,000.

This is the first antiviral Covid-19 pill authorized for ill people to take at home, before they get sick enough to be hospitalized.
High-risk individuals age 12 and older who weigh at least 88 pounds and have a positive SARS-CoV-2 test are eligible for this treatment and will need to have it prescribed by a doctor.
The pill “should be initiated as soon as possible after diagnosis of Covid-19 and within five days of symptom onset,” according to an FDA statement.

Many scientists and health experts have warned that vaccinating children against COVID-19 is unnecessary and extremely risky. Irish Democracy is when the populace simply doesn’t cooperate with the agenda. Sometimes there is active sabotage, sometimes surreptitious monkey-wrenching, sometimes foot-dragging and sometimes outright noncompliance. Sometimes it’s all of those at once.
Right now, we are seeing some of that in response to vaccine mandates, mask rules and various other forms of population control that have been adopted since the pandemic struck. The companies said on Dec. 17 they amended their clinical trial to include a third shot for the age group at least two months after the initial two-dose regimen.
The companies tested a 3 microgram dose of the vaccine — one-tenth of the adult dose — in children 6 months to 5 years of age. After two doses, children between 6 months and 2 years produced an immune response comparable to people aged 16 to 25 years, but children between 2 and 5 years old did not.

[Dec. 4] Japan’s health ministry has listed inflammation of the heart muscle and of the outer lining of the heart in younger males as possible serious side effects of the Moderna and Pfizer COVID vaccines. It says that as of November 14, out of every one million males who had the Moderna vaccine, such side effects were reported in 81.79 males aged 10 to 19 and 48.76 males in their 20s.The figures were 15.66 and 13.32 respectively for those who had the Pfizer vaccine.
The ministry held a panel of expert on Saturday and proposed warning of the risk by printing “serious side effects” on the documents attached to the vaccines.

In court documents filed last week in Hawaii, Monsanto Company agreed to plead guilty to 30 environmental crimes related to the use of a pesticide on cornfields in Hawaii, and the company further agreed to plead guilty to two other charges related to the storage of a banned pesticide that were the subject of a 2019 Deferred Prosecution Agreement (DPA).
Monsanto admitted in a plea agreement filed last week that it committed 30 misdemeanor crimes related to the use of a glufosinate ammonium-based product sold under the brand name Forfeit 280. After using the product in 2020 on corn fields on Oahu, Monsanto allowed workers to enter the fields during a six-day “restricted-entry interval” (REI) after the product was applied.
The plea agreement calls for Monsanto to serve three years of probation, pay a total of $12 million and continue for another three years a comprehensive environmental compliance program that includes third-party auditors.

The death of a Dunedin man is being investigated by New Zealand health officials and the coroner to ascertain whether it could be connected to the Covid-19 vaccine he received 12 days earlier. Rory James Nairn, 26, died on November 17 at the home he shared with his fiancee Ashleigh Wilson.
His death has been referred to the coroner and the exact cause is yet to be determined. Mr Nairn received his first dose of the Pfizer Covid-19 vaccine on November 5.
Health officials are also aware of Mr Nairn’s death but cannot comment because of the coronial investigation. Ms Wilson said it was frustrating not to have any clear answers and she decided to share Mr Nairn’s story. Nassau County Executive-elect Bruce Blakeman will not enforce Gov. Kathy Hochul’s mandate that all businesses either require patrons to wear a face covering or require proof of vaccination, a spokesperson for Blakeman confirmed Monday.
The statewide reinstatement of the mask mandate went into effect Monday and will continue through Jan. 15, at which time the governor said she will re-evaluate it. Blakeman takes office in Nassau on Jan. 1.

Following that attack that took place at around 1 am today, all of MoH’s websites, including ConecteSUS, which tracks the trajectory of citizens in the public healthcare system, became unavailable. This includes the COVID-19 digital vaccination certificate, which is available via the ConecteSUS app
According to a message left by the Lapsus$ Group, which has claimed responsibility for the attack, some 50TB worth of data has been extracted from the MoH’s systems and subsequently deleted. “Contact us if you want the data returned”, the message said, alongside contact details for the authors of the attack.

WASHINGTON — More than 6% of the Air National Guard and Reserve did not meet the deadline to get the COVID-19 vaccine, and could begin to face consequences if they don’t get the mandated shots or receive an exemption, the Air Force said Friday.
Air Guard members who report for their monthly drill this weekend will be allowed to participate and will be paid – whether they are vaccinated or not, but those without shots will have the opportunity to get the vaccine when they report to their base, according to Air Force spokeswoman Ann Stefanek.
The Air Force said roughly 11,000 troops did not get the vaccine by the deadline Thursday. There are about 107,000 Air Guard members and 68,000 in the Reserves, and about 3,500 of the unvaccinated have received medical or administrative exemptions. The unvaccinated total, however, could be a bit lower than the data show so far. Officials have cautioned that the information for the Guard and Reserves may lag, as some of the citizen airmen could have gotten shots at local pharmacies and have not yet filed their data with the service.

Tennessee’s medical licensing board voted Tuesday to delete a policy opposing coronavirus misinformation from its website due to fears a powerful conservative lawmaker would otherwise dissolve the board and replace its members.
The policy, unanimously adopted by the Board of Medical Examiners in September, establishes that doctors who spread demonstrably untrue information about COVID-19 vaccines could have their licenses suspended or potentially revoked. Members voted 7 to 3 to delete — but not rescind — the policy.

A prior post explained that the FDA has asked a federal judge to make the public wait until the year 2076 to disclose all of the data and information it relied upon to license Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccine. Literally, a 55-year delay. My firm, on behalf of PHMPT, asked that this information be disclosed in 108 days – the same amount of time it took for the FDA to review and license Pfizer’s vaccine.
The Court ordered the parties to submit briefs in support of their respective positions by December 6, 2021. The FDA’s brief, incredibly, doubles down. It now effectively asks to have until at least 2096 to produce the Pfizer documents. Not a typo. A total of at least 75 years.
Other than producing an initial ~12,000 pages in around two months, the FDA thereafter only wants to commit to producing 500 pages per month. The FDA also disclosed that it actually has approximately at least 451,000 pages to produce.*

The NHS is forecasting there will be 230,000 new cases of post-traumatic stress disorder in England as a result of the coronavirus pandemic, official figures show.
Covid-19 has increased exposure to events that could cause PTSD, an anxiety disorder triggered by very stressful, frightening or distressing events, according to the Royal College of Psychiatrists. It says the NHS is already facing the biggest backlog of those waiting for mental health help in its history.
Forecasts cited by the college from the NHS strategy unit, which carries out NHS analysis, show there could be as many as 230,000 new PTSD referrals between 2020/21 and 2022/23 in England, which suggests a rise of about 77,000 cases a year on average.

Hospitals are among Tennessee entities banned from asking workers for proof of COVID vaccination, the Tennessee Hospital Association said.
State Comptroller Jason Mumpower announced a reversal of a number of exemptions that allowed entities to employ COVID measures against a state law that restricted them. Court rulings that also blocked a few of President Joe Biden’s vaccine mandates were cited, the Associated Press reported.
The state law does allow for health care organizations to require proof of vaccination, but only for “valid and enforceable” Medicare and Medicaid rules. The hospital association said that one of the court rulings “effectively eliminates” the exemption for hospitals.

PROVIDENCE — Rhode Island plans to release a proof-of-vaccination passport program in the form of an app, staff members in the governor’s office told the Globe on Wednesday.

New data released by the Commerce Department shows that over the last two quarters of 2021, U.S. corporations outside the finance sector have raked in their largest profits since 1950 — a windfall that belies CEO gripes about rising labor costs and broader inflationary pressures in the economy.
The Commerce Department figures, as Bloomberg reported Tuesday, show that overall corporate profits were up 37% from the previous year while employee compensation was up just 12%.

Namur city’s Court of First Instance ruled Tuesday that use of the COVID Safe Ticket (CST) was illegal in the Wallonia region.

Nearly 1,500 unhoused people are estimated to have died on the streets of Los Angeles during the pandemic, according to a new report that raises alarms about authorities’ handling of a worsening humanitarian crisis.
Authored by researchers from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), and a coalition of unhoused residents, the report analyzed the LA county coroner’s records to identify 1,493 cases of people who died between March 2020 and July 2021 on the streets and were probably unhoused. The most common cause of death was accidental overdose.
The authors identified people believed to be unhoused based on the locations of their death, including freeway underpasses, parks, sidewalks, dumpsters, abandoned buildings, bus stops, tents, riverbeds, railroads and encampments.

The Biden administration’s COVID-19 vaccination requirement for federal contractors received another blow from US District Judge Gregory Van Tatenhove, who granted a request Tuesday to block the federal mandate in three additional states: Kentucky, Ohio, and Tennessee.
“Once again, the court is asked to wrestle with important constitutional values implicated in the midst of a pandemic that lingers,” Tatenhove wrote in his ruling, which was obtained by CNN. “But right now, the enforcement of the contract provisions in this case must be paused.”
By issuing the mandate, Tatenhove determined that Biden exceeded his authority under the Federal Property and Administrative Services Act, even for a “good cause” like slowing the spread of COVID-19.

There is no need to call off Christmas parties despite the emergence of the Omicron variant, the health secretary has said, as he urged people to get a booster jab to fight Covid.
Sajid Javid said people should consider measures such as taking Covid tests or wearing face masks when socialising. But NHS Providers said some NHS trusts had asked staff “not to mix in big groups” in the run-up to Christmas. It comes amid an expansion of the booster vaccination rollout.

US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin denied a request from Oklahoma’s governor to exempt the state’s National Guard troops from the Pentagon’s vaccine mandate.

A federal district court judge has rejected a claim by the U.S. Department of Defense (DOD) that the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine being administered under Emergency Use Authorization is interchangeable with Pfizer’s Comirnaty vaccine, which in August was fully licensed by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
In an order issued Nov. 12 in Doe et al. v. Austin, U.S. Federal District Judge Allen Winsor of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Florida denied a preliminary injunction requested by 16 service members against the U.S. Military’s COVID vaccine mandate. A hearing is scheduled for Sept. 14, 2022.
However, the judge’s acknowledgment that “the DOD cannot mandate vaccines that only have an EUA” is significant for two reasons.

It might soon be easy to build living robots — because they’ll build themselves. New Scientist reports Harvard University, Tufts University and University of Vermont researchers have learned that their frog cell-based Xenobots can self-reproduce.
The custom organisms can collect “hundreds” of individual cells in their dishes to spontaneously assemble baby bots that grow up within a few days. As this happens over and over, you could use the reproduction to amass however robots you need to deliver drugs, remove microplastics from rivers or otherwise complete small-scale tasks.
The replication method is as notable as the bots themselves. The cells would normally develop into tadpole skin, but the computer-designed cell mix instead uses the “kinematic” (motion-based) replication normally seen only with molecules. No known animal or plant reproduces this way, according to study lead Sam Kriegman — the robots effectively broke the ‘rules’ of biology.

On Tuesday, Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis announced the country would make COVID-19 vaccinations for all citizens of Greece who are over 60 years of age mandatory. In addition, he said those who refuse to get vaccinated will have to pay a monthly fine of 100 euros (approximately $114).
“The new Omicron variant is a concern for us and means we must be vigilant,” he added.
Mitsotakis made the announcement during a televised cabinet meeting in Athens on Tuesday. The effort comes as Europe is scrambling to address the threat of the new Omicron variant ahead of the busy holiday season.
