Planet Waves Weekly for Dec. 17, 2025 — #1,588 — Sagittarius New Moon

Good afternoon —

The subscriber horoscope below describes the Sagittarius New Moon for all the signs and rising signs. there is also a video that will walk you through the chart. I have devoted Starcast above to Mars entering the Family Hunger Games pattern. It will peak between Christmas and New Years. My podcast above is suitably encouraging of caution.

This is the alignment in early-to-mid Capricorn that I’ve covered in three articles. The most recent covered Mars moving through Libra in August and September. The prior was from earlier this year about healing family sexual trauma. Prior to that was the original article, The Family Hunger Game, one of the most visited articles in Planet Waves history. I will keep coming back to it.

As an astrologer, I’m committed to covering news events and cool developments in the sky. But as a servant of Chiron and the Inner Light, I am here to provide a source of essential healing viewpoints, materials and resources. This may be in addition to your therapy or recovery path; or it may be used as a stand-alone. My use of astrology requires that I not play the “spiritual bypass” game and that I be willing to handle subjects that are not suitable for the dinner table.

Astrology is a helpful and potent healing tool, in the right hands. It can also do plenty of damage, which is why every astrologer must understand what it means to do no harm, to the greatest extent possible on this plane of existence.

Aries (March 20-April 19) — One of the great challenges of life is seeing beyond your perceived horizons, and having an idea what is possible beyond your expectations. That is what your chart is about now. A whole dimension of potential opens up. Then the story continues: you want to take action and you’re likely to. You feel like you can create something or take leadership or make your mark on the world. Then the story continues: you run into family turbulence, whether from within or without. It’s the constant and ever-present trap that you’ve encountered many times before. What do you do? Well, if you recognize the influence you’re in much better shape. If you question its validity, better still. But logic and confidence alone won’t get you beyond the past and to someplace you want to be. You must doubt those voices; suspend your belief in them; not repeat them. And teach yourself what is possible.

Taurus (April 19-May 20) — You can do anything if you have faith in yourself, and more significantly, if you want to do it. This is the thing — motivation. You might simplify your life and choose from among the possibilities that have some drive behind them. This cannot be material, that is, about money, status or appearances. You need real meaning. Your chart describes someone who wants to connect with their own deeper and underlying reality, often invisible in the ordinary, walk-around world. There is a lesson here, which is about having faith in yourself. Motivation helps, and then there is that level of confidence that can only come from something that you may or may not be able to justify. That is the beauty of faith: it’s immune to history, and to the facts. But remember that you’re not on a mission from God — you’re just on a mission.

Gemini (May 20-June 21) — Friday’s New Moon describes you living in a world that you do not understand, and that’s just fine. Too often, understanding is based on a made-up model of what you think something should be. It’s far better to look at something, someone or a situation and admit that you’re not able to make sense of it. It may be beyond your present scope of understanding or it may actually be incomprehensible. Your solar chart offers a clue, which is that you can’t necessarily understand something looking from the outside. You must be closer to the action, or get an interior view. You will have to be careful not to get involved if indeed you should not be, though you will have to make a choice rather than letting yourself get caught in the drama or gravity. But that’s different from paying a visit and finding out what you need to know. The thing is, you may discover that you already have all the information you need.

keep your sense of humor out front at all times. Many of the best ideas start with jokes. A mysterious channel opens up.

Cancer (June 21-July 22) — You’re in an excellent position to see the world from someone else’s viewpoint. That may provide you with something essential that you didn’t know you were missing. However, you will need to consciously switch places with them, as a mental or emotional choice. A conversation would help; think of it as a casual interview. It’s important to remember how easy it is to get a sense of someone else’s perspective, situation or point of view — and how infrequently it’s done. You are engaged in a major project of some kind, and you are under pressure to get it done well. One small hint or clue that comes from someone else can make things not only easier, but also much higher quality. However, it’s vital that you not guess or assume. Without real intel, it will be easy to get it wrong. And getting it right will pay off significantly.

Leo (July 22-Aug. 23) — Humans are inherently creative. Most do not feel that way, though that’s not surprising after spending the first 18 years of life in school and coming away with little other than the alphabet, the times tables and a bunch of bullshit. Imagine if you’d spent that time pursuing your curiosity and doing things that interested you. Any adult who still possesses a shred of life force can recover some part of their childhood flexibility and passion for existence. Many factors are aligning now to make that not only possible but easily accessible. Are you interested? Can you wiggle your way out of worry and commitments and being so caught up that you don’t even notice the weather? Your soul is calling for meaning and involvement in the beauty of life. It will be worth a try — now, not “after the holidays.”

Virgo (Aug. 23-Sep. 22) — While yours is one of the most practical signs, your life is built on a spiritual vision and a cosmic foundation. You might not like to admit these things, but you know them. You understand things to be true that you cannot prove. You have faith in yourself that cannot be shaken even by an earthquake and tsunami. And it seems like you’ve heard the calling to initiate a creative project, a business plan or some morph of the two. However: beware of people who trigger your childhood self-esteem issues, which are largely about taking on the responsibilities of adults before you were ready. Now that you’re finally an adult, let others take care of themselves, while you do the right thing for yourself: what brings you joy and pleasure. You love to be productive and make things happen. It’s all the same.

Libra (Sep. 22-Oct. 23) — You have fantastic ideas, and they are coming through in abundance. Now all you need to do is pace yourself and bring them into existence. This is probably best done one at a time, though you seem to have a few fires burning and a few irons in each of them. Therefore, you must prioritize. The question is, on what basis? First, it’s important that you jot down your inspirations as you have them — not later, and not in the morning. You will almost inevitably forget. Then, take care of what simply has to happen due to some time factor — though keep asking yourself if that’s really true. Besides that, you are free to work on the basis of preference — that is, whatever turns you on. It’s about time you had that freedom, but you must take it. I’m as close as you’ll get to someone offering it to you.

Scorpio (Oct. 23-Nov. 22) — As the natural born psychologist of the stellar pantheon, you’ve probably figured out that psychology doesn’t work so well. It’s not useful for deducing anyone’s motives, at least not accurately (and especially not those of relatives). The sibling angle of your chart is about to be stirred up, and parents are never far from your awareness. You might step back from the notion that there are family problems to be fixed. One of the most distinctive qualities of our time is everyone minding everyone else’s affairs, and right now there is extra temptation in the air. In many situations the “forensics” and the back story don’t matter. If you wind up on the phone with someone who is looking for solutions, ask if they have any ideas of their own and maybe offer a vague opinion. The less you propose, the less you will be responsible for what is not yours.

Sagittarius (Nov. 22-Dec. 22) — You are about to experience a most unusual New Moon in your birth sign or ascendant. All at once, you’re remembering everything you’ve ever forgotten about yourself, your intentions for this lifetime and the natural gifts you possess. Make sure that remembering is not just a short-term flashback that drops back into the abyss. Anchor your knowledge with choices and with actions. Dig up anything half-finished and see whether one or more of those projects is ready for something big. You also have the drive to make the financial end work, though this must never come at the cost of the integrity or spiritual value of what you are doing. It’s easy to forget this in a world where people monetize eating breakfast or putting on face cream. The thing to do is what you do for its own sake, and if you can remember that, partners and loved ones will be right there to help you make it happen.

Capricorn (Dec. 22-Jan. 20) — Mars has entered your sign just in time for the holidays. This is already a difficult stretch of the calendar for most people, as childhood memories are dredged up and society goes through its twinkly sparkly traditions. Some people find these comforting. Others find them depressing, isolating and maddening. Wherever you fall on that spectrum, be aware that Mars is going to be passing through a configuration in your sign that I’ve called the Family Hunger Game pattern. What to do about it? I suggest going only where you feel welcome. Emphasize contact with those you like and who accept you. And I would propose that you avoid so much as a sip or a drop of alcohol as this transit works itself out. There will be no “good cheer,” only weirdness you don’t need. And if you find yourself alone, appreciate the peace and calm, and know that you’re not the only one who feels the way that you do

Aquarius (Jan. 20-Feb. 19) — You will be a beacon for many people around you over these days that so many find so difficult to endure. However you may feel personally, your social magic is burning bright right now, and you may find yourself a center of attention among those who might otherwise be done in by end of year traditions that cause more stress than they offer a sense of belonging. I don’t mean to sound negative, but it’s pretty bad, masked by the happy faces people put on. You have the ability to bring meaning and warmth to the people around you, and that gift is at an all-time high right now. You don’t need to say or do anything special other than know that people are entering your sphere of awareness because they are drawn to you. Keep your lights on and remain situationally aware at all times.

Pisces (Feb. 19-March 20) — This week’s spectacular New Moon, along with Venus and Mercury, activates the career and reputation angle of your solar chart. Do not worry if you feel invisible; you are being seen, noticed and most of all, appreciated. And you may find yourself with important responsibilities during the holiday season, which you must honor. They are significant in themselves and are also synchronized with once-in-a-lifetime opportunities to expand your potential and do something new. The only potential pitfall involves social activity that might be corporate or family-oriented. Keep a distance where you feel weird vibes. Take a miss on anything that you know is not truly for you, or make a quick cameo appearance and move on. I will repeat my alcohol warning. For the next week or two it will be the wet floor that many people slip on. Stay on your feet and take care of business.
