THE NEXT EVENT in our astrological adventure story is a total eclipse of the Moon in Taurus, on Tuesday, Nov. 8. This happens at 6:02 am EST and will be visible wherever you can see the Moon.
This Full Moon eclipse happens conjunct Uranus, to the degree. Where Uranus is in the picture — especially of a major collective event such as this — we are on notice to expect the unexpected. Uranus-focused events can have extra shock value. They can release pent-up energy. They can describe overreactions and people acting out of character.
Eclipses generally qualify as “major collective events” because they are an unusual alignment in space and time. They have long-lasting effects; some say six months, but with some, you can sometimes see their influence 10 or 20 years later.
The lunar nodes are indeed nodes, meaning that they are points of juncture, intersection and exchange. They point to eclipses, and when one happens, the bell rings and the energy tap opens up.
Basic Intro to the Quarter and Cross-Quarter Days
The solar year is divided into four seasons, which commence on the day that the Sun’s rays meet one of the tropics at 90-degrees (i.e., directly above). For example, when the Sun’s rays are directly above the equator, that is always an equinox. When the Sun is directly over the Tropic of Cancer, that is a solstice and the time the Sun enters the tropical sign Cancer.
These are called the quarter days, and they are associated with the cardinal points on the compass and therefore with the cardinal signs (Aries, Cancer, Libra and Capricorn). These points all connect to the Aries Point, or the first degree of Aries (and the day of the vernal equinox). These are also called the quarter-points.
The Aries Point makes a fantastic study of astrology due to its effect of amplifying the effect of anything that happens near it. There are some stunning examples throughout astrological history.
At the midpoint of any equinox and solstice is a cross-quarter point. These are located right in the middle of the fixed signs Taurus, Leo, Scorpio and Aquarius. They have the full force and effect of the Aries Point, concentrated by the strength and power of the fixed signs. Note that numerous festivals and unofficial holidays tend to gather around the cross-quarter days, from Valentine’s Day to Springfest on college campuses to various summerfests in early August to harvest festivals such as Halloween and Oktoberfest.
Total Lunar Eclipse on the Cross-Quarter
On Tuesday, we have the combination of a total lunar eclipse happening on a cross-quarter day. The eclipse and the event on the cross-quarter amplify one another. For this reason alone, the eclipse points to some significant collective event.
I am aware that in our digital moment of history, when everything overlaps everything else, there might seem to be no such thing — or we could describe everything that way. Still, this looks a bit outstanding.
In the spirit of Taurus, this could involve the financial system. In the personal sense, it involves a major reevaluation of attitudes, values and priorities. (For contrast, there was a New Moon in Taurus directly on the cross-quarter of May 5, 2008. This came with a very large shift in economic conditions.)
The thing with these shifts is that it’s possible to come out a winner or a loser. Though this is not possible for some, and difficult for others, it’s possible to take advantage of these shifts and changes. Often, they set people free from what they don’t want to be doing (see the horoscopes for those discussions).
Many planets are gathered on the cross-quarter — they include Uranus and the Moon in Taurus; Mercury, the Sun and Venus in Scorpio; Saturn in Aquarius; and of course the lunar nodes.
The Lunar Eclipse is Conjunct Uranus
Alice Bailey in her book Esoteric Astrology says something interesting: The Moon veils a planet, which is Uranus. In other words, where you see the Moon in a chart, you can also read that point as being an alternative location for Uranus. I know this is weird, but astrology is an illusion.
You can think of a lunar eclipse as pulling back the veil. And what we notice when we do this is that Tuesday’s eclipse is in a conjunction to Uranus, exactly within the 17th degree of Taurus. It’s exceedingly rare to have a lunar eclipse conjunct Uranus. This will accelerate the pace of events, it increases the “surprise” and “random” factors of Uranus; and it is likely to have a destabilizing effect on the affairs associated with Taurus, which you can think of as where microeconomics meets macroeconomics.
This is already happening. We are in a phase of rapidly increasing inflation. The Federal Reserve is increasing interest rates. The economy is built on a massive pool of debt. We know that much of this is engineered, unnecessary, and dangerous. Many commentators are saying that we are witnessing a “controlled demolition” of the economy. Those are the Trees. Here is the Forest
I’ve been describing local astrology. This includes many planets in Scorpio, including the Sun, at the same time Mars (the ruler of Scorpio) is retrograde Gemini. This adds a layer to the intrigue; it’s a caution to consider the things you would prefer not to, and to be honest with yourself.
The wider picture is that the events of the current moment lead into a whole new era of astrology, which begins in March — about which I’ve been writing nearly every week.
At that time, we are likely to see additional manifestations of what is going on behind the scenes now. In March, there are three rare and significant sign changes of planets: Saturn enters Pisces (for about three years), Pluto enters Aquarius (beginning a 20-year phase), and Mars leaves Gemini after seven months, and enters Cancer.
The story of the world is advancing quickly and everything is subject to change. Most people detest this and cling to their concept of security. What we need to adjust to is movement. When you’re in an airplane, that means being able to fly. When you’re in a boat, that means being able to sail. When you’re in a car that means being able to drive.
When you’re in the human form, your best protection and access to your creativity is the ability to observe and to think.
