Early February is the time of the Midwinter Holiday from the Pagan tradition, called Imbolc, later reduced to Ground Hog Day. It’s the midpoint between Winter Solstice and Spring Equinox. This is a holiday based on the feeling of being stuck in the dark in our homes for months on end. In Christian terms, the name is Candlemas. According to the tradition, it’s the time of year to count your candles and, if you have enough, to place one in each window and illuminate the night (mind the curtains, however, we don’t want the night to be too light). It’s a good time to warm up your home with social gatherings, but then, when isn’t.
Aries (March 20-April 19)
Your household and how you organize it seems to be mirroring your tendency in relationships to emphasize independence. It helps that a certain individual close to you has been preoccupied lately, and perhaps giving you more space than you want. Yet in truth the time has arrived for you to live by the light of your own ideas in your own home. This is not one of your usual attempts to give up on relationships, but rather a true evolutionary step on the way to doing them in a way that’s fair to everyone involved. And a lot of that has to do with how you use your physical space.
Taurus (April 19-May 20)
You seem to be finding your way back to reality, and it’s not so bad. The astrological image is one of coming out of the shadows and into the light; emerging from doubt to a measure of real certainty. The sense of change is so palpable that you can feel it from the bottoms of your closets to your greatest dreams. The relationship is that if you make a project of cleaning those closets, you will raise the ceiling of what is possible in your life. Rearranging whole rooms would work even better. But in any event, these days, you can hardly fail at anything.
Gemini (May 20-June 21)
Is anybody home? It would appear you’re either far away or wanting to go somewhere; your solar chart is dripping with wanderlust. And there just might be some event or experience early in the month that sparks you in the direction of elsewhere. Your imagination may be a little more wild than your ability to do certain things logistically, but whatever you may think is possible, I recommend getting as far away from home as you can this month. There are certain dreams you need to feed right now, and most of them thrive only on travel and the perspective that it brings.
Cancer (June 21-July 22)
Vesta, the planet of the Home Fires, is making a long sojourn in your sign. Currently retrograde, we really do have an image of inner space — as interior as it gets, the sanctity of your heart and deepest feelings. Vesta is about how we use and organize physical space but I see a message about a kind of emotional sorting out that will help you shift the direction of your personal affairs in a way you’ve been striving to do for a long time. For sure, simplicity is the necessity of the day, and though you may not be feeling like your life is so simple now, it won’t be long.
Leo (July 22-Aug. 23)
Certain situations in your most intimate life seem to be pushing on one another. The feeling from your chart looks like you moved to a bigger house, but somehow it feels smaller. Or like there are more windows, but they don’t open. This is entirely an illusion; it has nothing to do with physical reality. But once you tune into that, you’ll tune into another dimension of how you feel about your living space and how you can feel more at home. I can offer one suggestion, which is you need more Earth and Fire energy, such as plants, candles and new lighting.
Virgo (Aug. 23-Sep. 22)
Once again you prove that you’re the master of the game at household diplomacy, but as usual strength is your means of keeping the respect level high. But the boundary issues are not as bad as your imagination is making them out to be, and you don’t need to defend yourself against an invasion. It seems, more to the point, that you feel like being unusually compromising and open to the influences of others. You just might not be feeling this way at home. That’s okay because there’s plenty of room for cooperation and collaboration at work.
Libra (Sep. 22-Oct. 23)
I wonder if you’ve been out of your house any time in the past two months. If not, I suggest you go outside and have a look around. If it would make you feel better, start after the Sun goes down. But it’s nice in the morning. I say this just so you’ll get a little fresh air in your lungs, because it seems like you’ve been responding to a calling to stay put for a while and do some inner work. This has involved learning much about the interior reality known as the past, as if you’re doing an urgent review of your life thus far. It’s in the stars, and soon, you’ll be free to move on.
Scorpio (Oct. 23-Nov. 22)
Your house seems to be glowing from the outside. Between the assortment of strange and unique people and the level of activity, it looks like everyone is working on some astonishing new invention, or having one of the greatest parties in recent history. This is all part of the streak of good fortune that is making itself known to you right now. The only risk I see is the feeling of being a little crowded out of your own space. But you can always tell the scientists, intellectuals and socialites that you need a couple of days to yourself.
Sagittarius (Nov. 22-Dec. 22)
I think you need to get one of those “genius at work” signs for your door, or move into the local Super 8 for the weekend so you can get your ideas safely onto your hard drive, where they belong. Right now your life is all about some kind of brilliant creative breakthrough and I don’t suggest you let anything disturb you. Hire babysitters, by week-long movie passes for teenagers and explain to significant other(s) that they can see you by appointment only. You are giving birth to quite the brainchild.
Capricorn (Dec. 22-Jan. 20)
This is the time for a financial reorganization or at least allocating some cash to take a chance on something you believe in. Some of both would work well, so you would know just how much you have to experiment with. You’ll make a lot of discoveries in the process, and set some goals that it may take you a little time to keep, but soon enough you will do exactly what you set out to do. Your insights at this time, particularly pertaining to money, will guide you for years to come, so take yourself seriously.
Aquarius (Jan. 20-Feb. 19)
It’s been something of an itchy and scratchy time on the home front, with Mars retrograde in your sensitive 4th house for several months. But I would imagine that you have indeed claimed your space, kicked out everyone who doesn’t belong there and made sure the ones you really like have had their invitations. You’re something of a social electromagnet these days, with about half the solar system gathering in your sign. Maybe make that winter party sooner rather than later. Someone you meet could change your life immeasurably for the better.
Pisces (Feb. 19-March 20)
Don’t be surprised if sometime in the next few weeks you’re filled with the passionate desire to empty your entire apartment, or to pick up and move. Whichever way you go, change is in order and you may as well get it started now. You have a lot of ideas about how you want to live and I suspect you’re tired of being cramped into anyplace, anyone or anything. The theme of the month is “making room for yourself” — always something of a challenge for a Pisces. Just keep in mind that, at the moment, play is more important than work.
