All this chaos is the U.S. Pluto return

Dear Friend and Reader:

For Americans and Amerophiles in the audience wondering why it seems like society is falling apart and the political structure has never been more corrupt, consider that the U.S. Pluto return is ongoing. Here is a recent article on the topic.

That does not allay the sense of grief and loss from events like the shooting in Uvalde, Texas, it would help us understand how to guide the investigation toward ourselves. Pluto is about growth and transformation on the deepest levels. That is not the American speciality.

In my view, the early signs of this first-ever astrological event in American history go back to Sept. 11, 2001, when we physically observed society collapsing in its footprint.

The second exact contact between transiting Pluto and Pluto in the United States “Sibley chart” (the standard July 4, 1776 horoscope) happens July 11, 2022, followed by Dec. 28, 2022. However, using other techniques, the exact return stretches out much longer — and then we are into Pluto in Aquarius.

Effects of the Digital Environment

While our society seems to function, everything is stretched. Most people have no concept what is going on behind the scenes.

Nearly all of the failures and the crisis we see can be attributed to the effects of the digital environment, which has eroded the ground of rational thinking. Digital is no longer the internet. It is a morph of virtual and enhanced reality, and transhumanism. The result is profound instability of intellect, politics and culture. But those who do not notice are caught in the dull psychedelic haze of their phone. Snapchat sure is fun! Being a robot is not so much fun, unless you really don’t like being a person.

The digital environment undermines the ground of physical being without adding much in the spiritual sense. There are two exception I can think of. One is making good use of the nearly unlimited access to accurate information (based entirely on research skills); and the potential for deep human connection that can start online. More often, people exist as phantoms with little understanding of who we are. One response to that is aggression and violence as a means of finding out. We will never solve a problem (such as mass shootings) without understanding the purpose that it serves.

While some would say that the solution is to back away from digital devices, that would be like opening an umbrella after you’re already soaked. What we need to do is wake up within the digital environment, and yes, remember how to be physical again. Hugging trees and kissing dogs helps, though the problem is how many people are terrified of one another.

Major Events of Late May and Early June

On May 29, Mars is conjunct Jupiter in Aries. This is the first big event of the Jupiter in Aries mini-era. It could manifest all kinds of ways — Jupiter will enlarge whatever Mars in Aries represents. Beware of aggression as self-actualization. Beware of spiritual and political dogma. Find creative ways to explore who you are. Chiron in Aries supports this.

On May 30 we have the New Moon in Gemini. This takes place in degree 10 (anything over 9.00 is the 10th). The Sabian symbol for this degree is an airplane performing a nosedive — challenging nature with dangerous forms of play. Since we are talking about an air sign, this is a symbol of the mental agility that we need in our current environment, and for the most part lack.

My chart for Mercury stationing direct.

On June 3, Mercury stations direct. This is the chart I’ve used for the horoscopes below. The retrograde stated May 10 in Gemini and ends in Taurus. For those who have delayed anything due to the retrograde, give it a few more days and notice what information perks out. Mercury in Taurus is holding a long trine to Pluto in Capricorn, making deep, distant Pluto more available to normal waking consciousness.

Mars is square Pholus at the time. The actually happens the previous day, and is cautionary: it’s the anger management, alcohol management aspect. Events can easily get out of control under this influence; beware of the small cause with a big effect. That means keeping track of small causes known to be problems (a little alcohol, a little risk you feel uneasy about, ignoring the wisdom of the past).

On June 15, Mars is conjunct Chiron in Aries. This is an important aspect. For details read Shambhala: Sacred Path of the Warrior by Trungpa Rinpoche. It’s all in there. This is an aspect that says: self-actualization — violent, or not?

On June 18, Mercury comes out of shadow phase, and Jupiter is square Pholus. This is an interesting pairing. I am tracking Pholus (which is now conjunct Quaoar) for messages from the ancestors, and what we do with ancient wisdom. This could be very helpful in addressing the chaos of our times.

On June 21, the Sun enters Cancer. Winter solstice down under, summer solstice for yanks in the Northern Hemisphere. An exciting week with the Sun aspecting a tropic, and Jupiter and Pholus still holding a square in the cardinal signs. Big stuff.

Updates ongoing on STARCAST.

Elen síla lúmenn’ omentielvo is a Quenya greeting used by Frodo in the first meeting with Gildor Inglorion. It translates as “A star shines on the hour of our meeting” and is the Planet Waves motto.

Tread carefully where your family is concerned, particularly your elders, or anyone who fancies themselves in a position of authority. You can move more boldly in matters of your own personal business affairs, though do so with as little financial exposure as you can.

Aries (March 20-April 19) — You could set off a controversy without trying, by doing something that comes naturally to you — and you may be surprised by the fuss. Tread carefully where your family is concerned, particularly your elders, or anyone who fancies themselves in a position of authority. You can move more boldly in matters of your own personal business affairs, though do so with as little financial exposure as you can. Rather, speak softly and carry a big idea. Your mind is fresh and alive right now, and any sense that you are stuck is an illusion of Mercury stationing direct (June 3). Therefore, be patient with yourself. Mars and Jupiter lining up in the early degrees of your birth sign is exciting, and may come with a restless, gotta-burst-out feeling. Please notice when you feel internal pressure that you want to act on or in some way release. This must be done as a controlled burn, rather than haphazardly. Small actions or statements can set off unexpectedly large chains of events. So for a while, you need to pretend you live in a fireworks shed. Don’t play with fire; defuse situations that may arise; and delay your plans for starting anything until after Mercury moves to direct motion. You may not feel like you can hold off; Mars and Jupiter in your sign are urging you to get busy and do big things. However, you are not working with full information, especially about the financial angle. Use the time well. Plan ahead, look for flaws in your plans, and listen to squirrels and the odd things that people say to you.  Good advice (and cautions) will come in odd and unusual forms.

Therefore, keep at least one foot and both hands in the practical world — the decisions you have to make, the business you’re attending to, and the actual questions you’re pondering.

Hello Taurus Sun, Moon and rising! Use this link to find out more about the Astrology Studio reading for your sign. Your reading is included free with upgrading or extending to a 12-month subscription.

Taurus (April 19-May 20) — With so much activity in your neighboring sign Aries, you will have a tendency to be distracted by inner chatter or various figments of your imagination. These will be good for creative activities and not so good for guiding your life. Therefore, keep at least one foot and both hands in the practical world — the decisions you have to make, the business you’re attending to, and the actual questions you’re pondering. Try not to let your imagination run away with you — keep a grip on the known facts and figures, and keep track of the blanks and the variables as you do. You do not need to act quickly about anything. Take all of the necessary steps on the way to taking any action. And be careful not to get drawn into the dramas and potential distractions of partners. Be attentive to their state of mind and whether it is affected by alcohol or any other substances. They will be particularly sensitive to those factors. Then comes whatever situation you are approaching, indicated by a lineup of planets in your birth sign — asteroid Pallas, Venus, Uranus and Mercury stationing direct. Slow down the movie! If you rush your decision process, you will almost surely make mistakes. The X factor associated with Mercury changing directions in your sign pertains to something you know and are not admitting to yourself, or something you will discover about yourself. This will change the basis for the choices you make, and therefore, with that factor known, you will choose differently. So hang loose and watch events as they unfold. Your observations count for everything. Be sure to notice when you surprise yourself.

Though patience is not your usual state of mind, it will help to cultivate some. There is the side of your nature that loves, and by that I mean adores, observing people.

Hello Gemini Sun, Moon and rising! Use this link to find out more about the Astrology Studio reading for your sign. Your reading is included free with upgrading or extending to a 12-month subscription.

Gemini (May 20-June 21) — Normally the Sun in your sign is your time to move like quicksilver or greased lightning, though be aware that the floor is slippery. That, and a whole portion of your consciousness is lurking in a blind spot. The thing about those is you cannot see what is in them. It helps to have maneuvers that acknowledge this, like when driving, looking directly at potential traffic rather than relying on your side mirrors. Also, there is a tendency to rush the matter when you have a sense that you are missing information, or have a question nagging at you. This can lead to making assumptions that lead to a state of false clarity. Venus and Mars changing signs may give you the feeling that you’re lagging behind some imaginary schedule or competition. Though patience is not your usual state of mind, it will help to cultivate some. There is the side of your nature that loves, and by that I mean adores, observing people. If you take the time to do this, you will learn more than you can imagine. Let others take action first; watch the chessboard arrange itself; consider your moves — and then take well-planned and meticulous action. Mercury will not return to your sign until June 13. But along the way, it will be holding a trine to Pluto. This is a brilliant aspect for penetrating the veils of psychology — of yourself, or of others. Yet you have to sit still, listen and watch — and then allow yourself time to figure out the meaning of whatever you notice. The layers of meaning will come from within you, not from outside you.

Make light of your own achievements, and be grateful to do your small part. Give others credit for the contributions they have made. And practice what used to be called noblesse oblige — the inferred responsibility of privileged people to act with generosity toward those less privileged.

Hello Cancer Sun, Moon and rising! Use this link to find out more about the Astrology Studio reading for your sign. Your reading is included free with upgrading or extending to a 12-month subscription.

Cancer (June 21-July 22) — One way or another, you will aspire to do great things and stand out from everyone. However, you don’t need to do much other than what you know is the right thing for you. You don’t need any kind of maneuver, or leverage, or scheme. Rather, do what you can to be in the right place at the right time. If it is time to work, then get your work done, and stay ahead of the curve. If it’s time to socialize, then do so in your usual skillful way. Here is the thing: in all interactions, understate your case. Make light of your own achievements, and be grateful to do your small part. Give others credit for the contributions they have made. And practice what used to be called noblesse oblige — the inferred responsibility of privileged people to act with generosity toward those less privileged. That means being helpful and unassuming. Your astrology has you in a spotlight; attention is focused on you, whether you’re aware of it or not. You are being seen, and people are making decisions about you. Over that fact you have little control, though you do have influence. The very best thing you can do is be yourself, which means not putting on airs, or attempting in any way to manipulate your image. Also, get used to the fact that not everyone likes you — and that success may breed some contempt. Play that off as well; detractors are wasting their time, so do not let them waste yours. Finally, let’s talk about the confidence issue indicated by Mars in Aries. The lack of confidence can take sly forms. So ask yourself what you would do differently if you were just a little more courageous.

Rather than being about activity, it’s about honoring who you are. Be advised, Western civilization is terrible at this. For all the bullshit that is regularly served up about individuality, the effect of our society is more often to crush the individual.

Hello Leo Sun, Moon and rising! Use this link to find out more about the Astrology Studio reading for your sign. Your reading is included free with upgrading or extending to a 12-month subscription.

Leo (July 22-Aug. 23) — The action in your charts is concentrated in two houses associated with your long-term vision and public visibility. The first topic is more important than the second, though in terms of being seen and perceived, if you follow the small rules, you will be able to violate the larger ones. Use your social skills; you can say almost anything if you’re impeccably polite about it. As for your long term vision: you will benefit from having one. Such is not a day-by-day scheme but rather a general goal that you truly value (for example, drive to the West Coast, rather than listing every city you intend to stop in along the way). Here again, if you stick to the big plan, the smaller elements will come together along the way. Create a vision that you can slowly inhabit. Rather than being about activity, it’s about honoring who you are. Be advised, Western civilization is terrible at this. For all the bullshit that is regularly served up about individuality, the effect of our society is more often to crush the individual. We have seen this as an obsession the past several years, which is passed off as some kind of spiritual virtue. Therefore, to actually honor your intentions and the truth of your existence will involve leaving your comfort zone and entering a place where you may feel uncertain. You will not necessarily be “approved of.” The reactions of others cannot matter; at this stage, count praise and judgment as equally irrelevant. To have a vision means to see something, and in this instance, something that may not seem to exist. But you do — and that is the truth.

The idea here is to notice their hang-ups, and put pins in the map when you find them, rather than take them on as your own. Parse the issue through the filter of religion as well.

Hello Virgo Sun, Moon and rising! Use this link to find out more about the Astrology Studio reading for your sign. Your reading is included free with upgrading or extending to a 12-month subscription.

Virgo (Aug. 23-Sep. 22) — You may be grappling with an ethical issue. And you may not yet have noticed that’s what it is. However, if something is irritating you, or making it difficult to sleep, or in any way causing you to doubt yourself, consider that it may be a matter of right or wrong. The wrinkle is that you may be trying to process this question through the ethics of someone else, your mother, for example. The way to parse this out is to consider what each of your parents might do under the same circumstances, and give them a voice (whether they are living or not). The idea here is to notice their hang-ups, and put pins in the map when you find them, rather than take them on as your own. Parse the issue through the filter of religion as well. Most of us are full of old conditioning about how pure we’re supposed to be, and how allegedly dark and evil certain kinds of thoughts are. Do your best to account for these influences, and stick a few more pins in the map. Religion can include various shades of New Ageism and secular humanism and pop psychology and all of that. These are not necessarily life-affirming philosophies. Your personal spirituality needs to honor the fact that you are an incarnated human with physical and emotional desires. If you have a true organic spirituality, it’s about honoring your physical vehicle and all that it does, and all that it wants. You don’t need to do anything other than stand apart from judgments that were injected into you, and allow nature to take its course.

I suggest you be exceedingly careful what you project onto others, including thinking anyone has some advantage that you do not have. Perhaps they do, though this is not a helpful line of approach.

Hello Libra Sun, Moon and rising! Use this link to find out more about the Astrology Studio reading for your sign. Your reading is included free with upgrading or extending to a 12-month subscription.

Libra (Sep. 22-Oct. 23) — You have options. You even have good options. Yet what you see will depend on how you feel and what you believe. In other words, your perceptions of yourself and your situation will be what determines what you have available and accessible; what you have to work with. I suggest you begin there. I suggest you be exceedingly careful what you project onto others, including thinking anyone has some advantage that you do not have. Perhaps they do, though this is not a helpful line of approach. Rather, consider your environment generally, as a demonstration of possibilities. Count yourself in, through the process of actively relating to the people around you. Currently, the way of the world — in many facets of business, art and social life — is “every man for himself.” The obvious benefits of collaboration are overlooked, and with that is lost the synergistic power of working together. That means the gains created by sharing resources, and of building what used to be known as a brain trust: the power of collective intelligence. Your chart is ripe for harvesting the benefits of community work, and then giving the resulting profits right back to the neighborhood or the world. Your role is to coordinate the efforts, and to conduct your particular orchestra. As in Chinese medicine, where there is a shortage on one meridian there will be an abundance on another, so guide and balance out resources as you notice these things. Be clear what you need and what you have to offer; notice where there is a lack, or unfilled necessity, and respond appropriately.

Act more like you have the freedom to choose what to do. Stick to the things that only you can do, which will tend to be the areas where you’ve developed your talents based on your true nature.

Hello Scorpio Sun, Moon and rising! Use this link to find out more about the Astrology Studio reading for your sign. Your reading is included free with upgrading or extending to a 12-month subscription.

Scorpio (Oct. 23-Nov. 22) — Stay busy with what motivates you. Yes you have other work to do — life is a farm, and there is always some chore that needs attention. However, at this time, I suggest you focus on the productive tasks that require little effort and where the time flows easily: the things you like to do, that you also need to do. Then, jam in the other stuff. Usually you take the opposite approach, focusing on what is necessary and setting aside what you prefer. I am suggesting that you re-train yourself and approach the matter of prioritization differently. Act more like you have the freedom to choose what to do. Stick to the things that only you can do, which will tend to be the areas where you’ve developed your talents based on your true nature. Those are the areas to expand into; they are likely to be the most productive and the most profitable, as well as the most personally fulfilling. If ever there was a time when these factors are aligning, it is now. Yet you will need to set aside any guilt complex associated with the crude notion that real work cannot be fun, or that there is always something more important than the thing you want to do. There is still a powerful creative streak running through your chart, and this is calling for expression.  This can apply to various shades of art, music and hedonism, as well as the basic truth that wherever there is a problem, there is a creative solution. Yet to do this, you need to be in a relaxed mental and emotional state — so do what you love.

The essential key to this house is direct and immediate experience. Chiron is juicing this up, and now Mars and Jupiter are providing the paints, guitars and amplifiers you can use to make something fresh.

Hello Sagittarius Sun, Moon and rising! Use this link to find out more about the Astrology Studio reading for your sign. Your reading is included free with upgrading or extending to a 12-month subscription.

Sagittarius (Nov. 22-Dec. 22) — Your chart is in Rockstar-mode. This is about your 5th house, Aries, where Jupiter has recently taken residence — now joined by Mars. This is fireworks, and a calling to bold adventure. Chiron has been there for a while, stoking your curiosity and beckoning you to have new experiences — in reality, not just in virtual theory. Summing up the classical definition of the 5th house, it’s where art meets fun meets games meets sex. It’s the house of the kind of “serious play” that children have. It is the sex of teenagers, and in adults, the kind that happens on the art studio couch, in the kitchen or in the shopping mall bathroom. The essential key to this house is direct and immediate experience. Chiron is juicing this up, and now Mars and Jupiter are providing the paints, guitars and amplifiers you can use to make something fresh. If experience is a theme of the 5th generally and also of your honorary ruling planet Chiron, so too is curiosity. Allow yourself to be driven by a quest for discovery. You are not here to weave baskets or make park benches. You are fed by exploring what has never been done (at least by you) and exploring what is exciting and unfamiliar. When you are doing the 5th, there is the necessary element of daring, of risk, or of some uncertain outcome. To the extent that gambling and speculation are fun, it’s that particular factor at work. Yet because we are talking about your exploration of your own life (and not betting on a horse), you cannot lose. One discovery will lead to the next.

While on some level the memories and impressions of history still exist, they are reduced to mere figments that only have as much power as you offer them.

Hello Capricorn Sun, Moon and rising! Use this link to find out more about the Astrology Studio reading for your sign. Your reading is included free with upgrading or extending to a 12-month subscription.

Capricorn (Dec. 22-Jan. 20) — The world is your home, so make it so. While you identify with the walls and grounds you occupy, your sense of self goes much deeper, right to the center of the Earth, and out to every degree of longitude and latitude. Yet you must start with where you are. Mars joining Jupiter, Chiron and Eris in Aries (your sign of home, security and grounding) are announcing boldly that the past is over. While on some level the memories and impressions of history still exist, they are reduced to mere figments that only have as much power as you offer them. Therefore, be careful and conscious where you place your attention — start with where you are right now, and allow that to ripple out into ever-larger circles. Activity in your fellow Earth sign Taurus is saying that you simply must have a way of expressing yourself in some tangible form. This spirit is going around; Taurus is your 5th house, and it is bursting with revolution. (You will see different expressions of this house in readings for Scorpio and Sagittarius.) The special kind of revolution illustrated for you is distinctly physical, describing your relationship to the world of matter, materials, and earthen substance. Your chart is saying: make something out of something. We all are over-invested in the digital framework, which is good as far as it goes — and it has the problem of being disembodied and detached from physical reality. Get your hands on some wood, clay, metal, paper, ink, peat moss or earth, plants, or even food. I am not talking about “art for the sake of art” but rather sculpting and transforming matter into something new: a metaphor for sculpting and transforming yourself.

First and in our time most important: how you relate as an individual in group environments. As you have no doubt observed, people tend to give themselves over to “the collective.”

Hello Aquarius Sun, Moon and rising! Use this link to find out more about the Astrology Studio reading for your sign. Your reading is included free with upgrading or extending to a 12-month subscription.

Aquarius (Jan. 20-Feb. 19) — Saturn is the only major planet or asteroid remaining in Aquarius, which will allow you to focus on this transformational influence in your life. While the timespan on this transit is loosely March 2020 to March 2023, these final months are a crucial time for you to master the teachings of this placement. I can break this down to three topics. First and in our time most important: how you relate as an individual in group environments. As you have no doubt observed, people tend to give themselves over to “the collective.” To parse this out, I suggest you set aside any such concept, and conduct all of your relationships one-to-one with your fellow individual humans. Any sense of a group or group dynamic must come second to your personal connections. The group may have a “mind.” It is your job to subvert it by establishing how groups are comprised of individuals. Second, closely related, all collaboration and cooperation comes from individuals who make decisions to lend themselves to any task or purpose. Third, you need an organizing principle for your life, which manifests internally, then extends outward into your environment. This is your point of crystallization. While many purposes can serve (such as eating Big Macs every day for 50 years), stick to what you know is your personal dharma. That means living the truth of your purpose, and acting as if to hold the world together. If you can only manage one of these, do your best — always keeping the other factor in mind. There is often a puzzle to solve here, and most people are too lazy to care, or to figure it out. But they know nothing of Saturn in Aquarius.

All of your talents, abilities, experience and the tools of your trade come along with that. You are worth investing in yourself, and may even be worth the investment of others.

Hello Pisces Sun, Moon and rising! Use this link to find out more about the Astrology Studio reading for your sign. Your reading is included free with upgrading or extending to a 12-month subscription.

Pisces (Feb. 19-March 20)  — Financial advice: bring in more than you spend. Cut costs and increase revenue. If you invest, buy when it’s low, and sell when it’s high. Wow, brilliant! It’s actually slightly more complex than that. At the center is a matter of personal ethics: what you determine to be right for you, factoring in the greatest good for all concerned. Usually, the two will line up, though that alignment can also be described as a life skill that you gradually acquire. Let’s take them in order. As a Pisces, you are “out of dharma” when you do anything specifically to make money, and which does not also align with your deeper purpose for living. Therefore, at your best, you act on what is right, or even what is the thing to do at the time. You are your most valuable asset. All of your talents, abilities, experience and the tools of your trade come along with that. You are worth investing in yourself, and may even be worth the investment of others. As for the second: despite the great pressure to feather your nest as a supposed vocation, all that you do must overflow into your community. Self-serving can come in the form of “take care of yourself, so you can take care of others,” though the two go together as part of one equation. This precludes the notion of sacrifice as a way of life, though there are times when you will give what you need personally to someone who needs it more. Rather than lend, pass forward, and encourage the same. And more than anything, be open to receiving.
