Speaking of revolution, things started to get a little out of hand near the Bastille Metro station when a few protesters started throwing trash and bottles around. Here, a young woman hurls a bag of garbage in the direction of police. Cops easily deflected flying objects with their shields, but more to the point, did not seem to take offense. A few bottles sailed over my head -- not my particular favorite form of protest, but for some reason, I didn't feel in danger. At this point, I did not know the city's strategy, and was waiting to see if cops would go ballistic on the students with the first thrown bottle, like they most likely would in the U.S. However, they seemed to be keeping calm, with some even appreciating the fact that they got to do something mildly exciting.
