Every Monday Morning for 200 Weeks
Planet Waves: It's About the Horoscopes
Dear Friend and Reader:
This week, we arrive at a Planet Waves milestone — 200 consecutive weeks of Monday Morning horoscopes. After many years of Thursday or Friday weeklies, we began publishing Mondays with the start of our
Marie Claire gig. What also changed is that we no longer have "off weeks," mostly thanks to my having two competent stand-ins, Amy Elliott and Victoria Emory.

The Planet Waves horoscope has run continuously since May 1995, when it began in
Free Time, an entertainment magazine in Poughkeepsie, New York.
Since then, my horoscope column has appeared in publications across Europe and North America, with readers from the one of the Antarctic scientific stations to Iceland, parts of Asia, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, and of course Vashon Island (where Planet Waves, Inc. was founded).
The Planet Waves horoscope has appeared in daily, weekly, twice monthly, monthly, quarterly and annual formats. In all, we've published about 2,000 horoscope columns and annual editions. Currently, my horoscope appears most Mondays and monthly, and annually in its longest form.
Wherever we may reach through secondary publishers (magazines and other websites), Planet Waves is here to serve you: our individual subscribers, customers and clients. We live in the Promised Land of the Internet: one-to-one long-term relationships with individuals, and no advertising sponsorship.
The Meeting Place
At the center of all we do — and we do a lot — are my monthly and weekly horoscopes. To write them, I draw on every conceivable source, inner and outer, and all of my experience as a writer. You get my personal interpretation, informed by what I've learned from spiritual training (particularly A Course in Miracles and yoga path), therapy training (particularly Gestalt and Hakomi), and my decades of study of esoteric literature, tarot and astrology with the most excellent teachers.

As written work, as a result, I consider the horoscope to be journalism, which belongs next to the crossword puzzle,
Peanuts and Jumble.
I first learned astrology in a newspaper office — that of the
Echoes-Sentinel, where the editor, Flo Higgins, ran a kind of nonstop astrology class. I was drawn directly to the work by Patric Walker from a column in the
New York Post. And consistent with good journalistic practice, I present astrology in plain language that anyone can follow.
When someone says they are not into astrology but follow my horoscope, I consider that the highest compliment.
Whatever else it may be, the horoscope column is a meeting place. I write something, and put it somewhere, and you look for it. An idea is passed from one person to another. I am writing about the most basic aspects of life: how we relate to ourselves, how we relate to others; how to do good work; how to recognize the meaning of your existence; how to confront the challenges that life presents.
While I have some things to say about the outer circumstances of life, I view most of my job as providing introspective guidance. So far as that is possible, I am a guide inward and to your inner life. At minimum, I'm here to remind you that you have one.
It's Not Easy for Most Astrologers
I've shepherded the horoscope writing careers of many astrologers. Most are short; the intensity of writing for 12 signs even once a week is more than most people can handle, and they tend to give up.
Many Sun-sign writers (as we are known) don't believe in what they do; many do not understand the very basics of the craft. I know this from listening to them speak at astrology conferences, or following discussion threads.

Planet Waves appears in The Daily Mirror of May 4, 2004, standing in for British horoscope writer Jonathan Cainer. It's really been 15 years?
|
One astrologer recently featured in a national magazine article said in a video that you cannot expect horoscope columns to be accurate, since one is writing for all of the Scorpios (or whomever) and they all can't have the same reading. I went bug-eyed when I saw that; at least she was taking ownership of her issue.
Writing for a wide public in a personal way is the art form, the essence of writing horoscopes. That is the poetry of it. Everyone related to Harry Potter; we did not need 12 separate editions. So when a writer gets to describe the same chart 12 ways, that leaves a lot of room for some tailoring of ideas.
Horoscopes must be specific enough to be relevant; elliptical enough for readers to bring their own meaning; and offer sound ideas and advice in any case. Above all, they must be ethical and relate to the reader on the level of their better angels — and also with awareness of their fears and concerns.
That is the Planet Waves horoscope, anyway. It remains a pleasure and a challenge to write these poems, stories and mini-investigative features for you, and this week, I offer you Monday Morning 200 — and an article about the Scorpio New Moon.
With love,
Full of Surprises: Scorpio New Moon Mirrors Uranus
Dear Friend and Reader:
Just when you thought you'd seen everything, the Scorpio New Moon arrives (Sunday at 11:38:20 pm in New York, 8:38:20 pm in California, Monday at 3:38:20 am in London, 2:38:20 pm in Sydney), in an exact opposition to Uranus, who also manifests as Prometheus. (In his book
Prometheus the Awakener, Richard Tarnas makes a compelling case that Uranus was misnamed and should have been called Prometheus.) Get ready for a surprise a minute.

The Moon-Sun conjunction directly faces the great green planet Uranus: the first planet discovered by astronomers — in 1781, at the dawn of the Industrial Age, the electrical age and the supremacy of science as a frame of reference and belief. Uranus is the planet of revolutions, uprisings, inventions and unexpected radical transformastions.
The Moon-Sun conjunction in Scorpio (that is, the Scorpio New Moon), taps directly into this energetic quality, which we're already seeing. In the news, there's plenty of wannabe revolutionary activity (Republican congressional reps storming the SCIF, and the phony investigation into the Special Counsel's investigation of the 2016 election) — and meanwhile, an actual movement to remove the president of the United States from office.
As mentioned
in the monthly edition, Mercury retrograde begins Oct. 31 in a conjunction to Pallas, the asteroid of law and politics. That alone is like a curve, a slider and a knuckle ball all mixed into one pitch. Be aware that the political intrigue might slide into your place of work, the library guild or the PTA. Stay one step ahead of any plotters and schemers in your neighborhood.
In practical terms, this astrology advises you to bide your time on important plans. Sure, make your move if you absolutely must, though the chances are you don't have to. And there's an excellent chance you will benefit from seeing what information shakes out over the next week or so. You will want to know whatever it is before you make any commitments.
The combination of the Uranian New Moon and, within days, Mercury changing directions will help you see who is solid and who is not. The weaknesses in any scheme or system will be revealed. You may need to change your plans a couple of times, though this is the kind of situation where disruptions of some existing pattern can provide the opportunity for a better approach.
However, make sure any new method you try is at least grounded in reality, and that you learn what you can from previous experiments. Use approaches and substances you've already tested somehow, even if you're in a new situation. Control the number of variables any way you can. There is the indication that alcohol or some form of entheogen (previously, 'hallucinogen') may be factors — Bacchus is in the picture, as is the goddess of magic and sorcery, Circe. Know your medicine and know your dosage. Then spin the wheel.
|
|
|
|
This pattern presents some truly unusual sex astrology. Physical experiences can combine with kundalini experiences; the energetic realm is mixing with the physical and emotional realms (we are combining Taurus, Scorpio, Uranus, the Moon and the Sun — this covers a wide spectrum). Such experiences may be solitary, in couples or in groups; all are described (Uranus brings in the idea of multiple). Remember, though, that whatever you experience is your experience, no matter who is there.
Neptune enters the picture though Mars and other factors. There is always a translation from fantasy to physical reality; make sure you know which side of that vortex you are on. There is something a little kinky about this pattern, which will help you stretch your mind and your body if you want to.
Another property of Uranus can be the unexpected opportunity or partner. Know your bottom-line values, so that you're aware you're challenging them if you choose to do so. You could decide to strike off in a new direction if the occasion presents itself, and it just might.
Pay attention to your money, particularly if transacted in large amounts. This is not a good time to be too wild, since the addition of Mercury retrograde means there are unknown variables. If you have a tested strategy, you can take advantage of volatility. It looks like there will be plenty, particularly over the next seven or eight days.
Humans are not especially good at dealing with uncertainty, though there is rather little of which we can be certain on this plane of reality. This is a good week to practice. Uranus calls for a little detachment, and perhaps the suspension of your regular ethics. If you're going to apply some situational ethics, keep an eye on your compass, know which way is up, and never go so far that you don't remember your zip code.
I'll have more descriptive imagery on Planet Waves FM and Tantra Studio on Sunday evening.

Saturn Conjunct Pluto. Jupiter Conjunct Saturn.
An Epic Year Calling for One Thing Only: RESPECT.
Dear Friend and Reader:
In 2020 we have not one but two conjunctions that mark the turn of a generation, and of an era in history. On Jan. 12, Saturn and Pluto in Capricorn form their once per 33-year conjunction. Then on Dec. 21. 2020, Jupiter and Saturn, both now in Aquarius, form a conjunction in the first degree of that sign.
A Turning Point Like No Other
For this reason, 2020 is a turning point year like no other. That demands something that is rare to find in our era of history:
RESPECT. That means self-respect above all else, but also healthy deference to the power and majesty of this extraordinary movement of the planets in their courses.

This is expert astrology like we've never experienced in this century, or long before.
Combined with the Pluto return of the United States, there will be many markers in national and global history. But what about you personally? How do you deal with any sense of uncertainty, instability or enforced changes?
I have covered 2020 astrology from several angles in must-read
INTELLIGENCE, extended written readings that are as gripping as any adventure novel. (
INTELLIGENCE also includes a review of 2019.) If you have already purchased INTELLIGENCE, you do not need to purchase it again.
How To Build a Bridge
RESPECT picks up where INTELLIGENCE leaves off. I will take a fresh look at 2020 astrology, tracking the story line as a transition from the Capricorn conjunction to the Aquarius one. This may feel like crossing a rope bridge over a high canyon. It will take steadiness, focus and commitment to get to the other side. The transition is from the political and corporate (Capricorn, driven by Pluto and Saturn) to the social and humanitarian (Aquarius, animated by Jupiter and Saturn).
I will pay special attention to the retrogrades of Venus and Mars, one of the tools that will help us make the transition — a topic that I have not covered yet, and will develop beautifully in
RESPECT, a series of audio readings with visual aids, all of which will be available some time between the December solstice and New Year's Eve.
The Dawning of a New Aquarian Era

|
|
The next two years will be under the guidance of Saturn — which is part of two rare conjunctions and part of a new cycle of history. Photos above and in the header are from the Cassini Space Probe.
|
With the movement of Jupiter and Saturn into Aquarius, we are entering a whole new continent of astrology. We will notice a sudden and otherwise inexplicable change in the tone of society.
Old challenges will give way to new opportunities — and the need to adjust to the dominance of another sign. This is not the proper beginning of the "Age of Aquarius" but rather a kind of mini-age that will present a trial run.
I will cover that in Part 2 of RESPECT, a series of futuristic written readings that will be published as they are written through early 2020, to be completed by the March equinox at the latest. The feeling of Aquarius is entirely different from that of Capricorn. Saturn gets lighter in this sign, and it will be joined by Jupiter. The result will be a palpable shift of energy as 2021 begins — but when it happens, we will have earned it. Knowing your astrology will help you get there.

Daily Birthday Readings from Planet Waves
Here are the next week's Birthday Readings; if it's your birthday this week, many happy returns to you. Please note you can also read these entries as daily posts on our
Intelligence website.
Sunday, Oct. 27, 2019 (The Day of Impulse)
A New Moon closely opposite Uranus is pretty much the astrological signature for a clean slate. If you've felt somewhat hemmed in or locked into a routine, this year will serve to remind you that you're the one ultimately in control of your life. If you have major changes to make, the window of opportunity is imminent. Just be sure to tie up as many loose ends as you can. In particular, keep promises and atone generously for any errors. Then you'll be ready when the moment comes.

Monday, Oct. 28, 2019 (The Day of Research)
Prepare to take the wheel and steer your life toward the true north of who you really are, more than you ever have before. Uranus opposing your Sun on your birthday signals that you're ready to reclaim aspects of your core identity. Opportunities to expand in that direction might arise from challenges in your environment. Wake-up calls could come via relationships that demand a type of conformity no longer compatible with your evolutionary path. The question is: how much have you surrendered for the sake of security, or external expectations? Therapeutic guidance geared toward liberating repressed anger or fears can help you make the most of a pivotal year.
Tuesday, Oct. 29, 2019 (The Day of New Ideas)
This year you should be able to instinctively tap both emotional and intellectual resources to considerable effect. Material security ties in here, but it's deeper than that. Invest in developing and expressing more of your innate talents and proclivities. The result can be a unity of purpose that greatly enhances self-worth. From there, all security proceeds. Relationships and communication factor large this year, and could pave the way toward opportunities you seek. An open heart, self-expression and sensitivity to intuitive prompts will serve you well.
Wednesday, Oct. 30, 2019 (The Day of the Overseer)
A birthday conjunction between Mercury and Venus in your sign indicates that your consciousness is tuned to an artistic key. Creative inspiration can even open spiritual dimensions that feel like 'coming home' in some way, but you'll need to honor those instincts enough to follow through. Whether you consider yourself an artist per se or not, beautifying your environment or attending cultural events might be more rewarding than you suppose. You should be able to express yourself with considerable charm this year, and approach life with an optimistic attitude that paves the way to some interesting encounters.
Thursday, Oct. 31, 2019 (The Day of Attentiveness)
You may find yourself re-thinking strategies this year, perhaps with an eye toward bringing your ideas forward with maximum impact. Follow the trail wherever it leads, without feeling compelled to express more than you're comfortable with at any given time. Your business, and your process, is as important for your development as it is deeply personal, so don't worry if you feel more introspective or private than usual. That said, you seem poised to make strides toward greater financial security, perhaps in a way that brings an element of seasoned wisdom into your discourse with others.
Friday, Nov. 1, 2019 (The Day of Onslaught)
Process-oriented, tactical thinking can help you integrate what you've learned over the last few years in a way that leads to financial opportunities. Remember that those doors are always opened by others, but it's up to you to step through them — so engage relationships with an eye toward open-minded innovation. You could be surprised by what gets accomplished. You can draw others toward you this year, and resources too. Yet, you might find yourself wrestling with the urge to splurge, despite an emphasis on practicality that dominates other parts of your life. Keep your eye on the long game.
Saturday, Nov. 2, 2019 (The Day of Transformation)
You're ready to go deep this year, to seriously dive into intense emotional material and examine lingering issues from the past. This is a profound phase of psychic exploration and healing, essential to your further growth. The more pro-active an approach you take to honestly reckoning with old fears, anger or obsessions, the more you'll reap the rewards. These amount to nothing less than having more of your innate power at your conscious disposal. Assistance from trusted counselors can play an important role in this process. Think of prioritizing inner work now as a strategic investment in your future.
Sunday, Nov. 3, 2019 (The Day of the Long Breath)
Even when you love your job, there are times when it feels like work. But there's nothing like the satisfaction of employment that allows you to express your talents in a meaningful way. Keep your eyes open this year for such opportunities. Your birthday chart indicates harmonious ties between self-esteem, values and material security, and work that furthers your own personal growth. Even if this involves service outside of traditional employment, follow through on leads in that department. Make yourself available. Decisions made now have long-range implications.

Monday Morning Horoscope #200 for Oct. 28, 2019 | By Eric Francis Coppolino
Aries (March 20-April 19) — It may be tempting to cover your tracks or slip out of a situation with a white lie, though it will only come back to haunt you. The underlying issue seems to be about you or a close partner wanting to avoid a confrontation. But there is tension or pressure that needs to be resolved somehow, and it's not going to be through avoidance. The first thing to do is figure out where you stand with yourself. You will need to sort out the ways in which the viewpoint of a partner is interfering with how you feel, and what you think is true. So you will need to factor for this, and not be intimidated by whatever someone thinks they can hold over you. You can learn something by applying a tool from Transactional Analysis. Is this a transaction between adults, between children, or is it a parent-child situation? I don't mean this in terms of chronological age, but rather mental and emotional posturing. The only people who can work this out are two adults.

Taurus (April 19-May 20) — You have more influence on others than you realize. You're already aware you have a way of agitating people and situations (particularly with Uranus in your sign). You might take a balanced view of this, and not assume it's OK because people need it, or because they love (or depend upon) you, or whatever excuse you might make. You will be doing your relationships a service by staying in contact with people and sizing up how they are actually responding to you. If you're going to be a source of stimulus in your environment, it will help if you do your part to hold up the structure, keep things on schedule, and clean up after the party. Stay in communication and, particularly with Mercury about to be retrograde, make sure that there are as few misunderstandings as possible. Minimize assumptions. Repeat your understanding back to others, for example, "What I hear you saying is [so and so]. Is that accurate?" The world will be a happier place.

Gemini (May 20-June 21) — Mercury, the Gemini planet, is about to be retrograde in Scorpio. That gives us a clue as to the nature of the retrograde and how it will influence you. This is your 6th house, which covers work and wellbeing. It would seem like you want to accomplish a lot. The way to do that is to mind your politics. Rather than running wrangle, check with both colleagues and higher-ups and figure out the best way to allocate your energy. Avoid surprises; negotiate everything except maybe bathroom breaks. Do your part to support your total environment. As for health-related matters, you seem to be walking a fine line between emotional detachment and overload. The way to handle this is to find methods to stay in contact with yourself, though without diving all the way in. There is a way that you can touch the edges of feelings without getting soaked in them. This is a little like dipping your feet in the pool rather than going off the deep end. You can still feel the water, but there's no chance of drowning.
Get your full Gemini reading by Eric here.
Cancer (June 21-July 22) — This week's New Moon in Scorpio, your 5th solar house, is like turning up the voltage on a sex electromagnet. I am aware that most of the world is too pure these days to admit sexual desire even to themselves. I suggest you not play this game, and allow yourself to feel what you feel and want what you want. You're likely to be experiencing some powerful attractions, though I suggest distinguishing this from being attached to someone, or an idea about them. Move quickly through your environment until you arrive at a point of contact. If one situation does not work out, another will. It will also help to distinguish sexual attraction from "true love" in any form. I'm not talking about joining Tinder or Grindr but rather allowing your erotic transactions to be friendly and gentle, though driven by curiosity rather than by some notion of commitment. Be present for the people you share yourself with. That is committed enough.
Get your full Cancer reading by Eric here.
Leo (July 22-Aug. 23) — Be aware of when you are "efforting." I know this word from Hakomi therapy training; it's when the therapist is working too hard, or expending emotional energy, to make a point or get some result with a client. Only in this case, it could be any kind of efforting, or action that seems to be futile or pointless but is still burning up your energy. Stop and think the second time you try to do something and you don't get a result. There is a good chance you can take a whole other approach and get a much better result. You will make things easier for yourself by being less emotionally invested in an outcome, and instead, do what you're doing as an experiment. Your astrology illustrates two things that I'll pass along as suggestions: one is to stick to tidying and improving your home; and the other, which is related, is to take your creativity to the kitchen. Baking and cooking would be perfect things to do this week and for the next few weeks. Nothing will make your home feel quite as homey as something good on the stove.
Get your full Leo reading by Eric here.
Virgo (Aug. 23-Sep. 22) — The theme of language is all over your solar chart right now, particularly with Mercury about to go retrograde in Scorpio. One theme is that of "revision." This is the time to rethink, revise and rewrite. You can apply this to work or creative products with excellent results. You might go through your social media feeds and delete any posts that you no longer agree with, or that might not serve your future interests. This is also a good time to fix any misunderstandings that might have arisen the past few months, and get a little clarity before you forgive and forget. Meanwhile, now is the time to edit carefully anything you write, and plan what you're going to say before you say it — especially in a professional environment. Carefully consider the impact that your words will have, and bear in mind that it may not even vaguely resemble what you expect. You cannot control the responses of others, though you can write and speak carefully, and listen to what comes back.
Get your full Virgo reading by Eric here.
Libra (Sep. 22-Oct. 23) — Be careful whom you involve in your financial plans, and to whom you reveal them. Overall, less is more: less involvement, and less discussion. This is particularly important during the Mercury retrograde that starts on Halloween and ends on Nov. 20. The chances are, your agenda will be in flux. That means putting new commitments on pause, and investing your energy into sorting out your overall financial situation. This is largely a matter of knowing the balances in all of your accounts. Then, take steps to ensure that you're spending less than you're bringing in. If you do this carefully, you will find a number of unnecessary expenses and at least one financial involvement that is not helping you. Be on the lookout for someone who messes with your plans, or throws you curves. The people you want in your financial life are the steady and predictable ones. If the provocateur is someone with whom you're in an intimate relationship, you will need some boundaries around their financial power over you.

Scorpio (Oct. 23-Nov. 22) — Tonight's New Moon in your birth sign will be full of surprises. Some may seem to come from you, others from people close to you. Therefore, keep your plans loose for the next few days, to accommodate anything interesting that might arise. With Mercury about to station retrograde in your sign, you will likely be revising your agenda a few times, so you would be wise to avoid making promises. And this is definitely one of those "don't sign, don't buy" Mercury retrogrades, particularly for you. Rather, see who and what comes your way. You don't need to make anything official, or sign onto anyone. You might have amazing experiences you're not expecting, and then on other days, disappointing developments. Yet you can minimize the negative by letting go of all expectations. Rather, take a "let's see what happens" approach and your life will be much more pleasant and interesting. One other thought — there seems to be some deep frustration you're dealing with but may not have articulated to yourself. Do the work. Don't take it out on anyone, including and especially yourself — but not anyone.
Get your full Scorpio reading by Eric here.
Sagittarius (Nov. 22-Dec. 22) — Keep your secrets to yourself, and especially keep them off social media. You need to concentrate the power of your self-awareness, and figure out where you're really at. Then you will be ready to share your thoughts, when appropriate, with the person you need to share them with. You are a work in progress at the moment, and if you pull your awareness inward for a while, you will make a few discoveries, particularly as Mercury changes directions on the 31st. These discoveries are likely to involve another person or, rather, how you feel about a relationship. However, I suggest you resist the notion that you're making any certain or final determination, as Mercury retrograde will take you on a tour of yourself and your feelings over the next few weeks. You may change your mind a few times before you finally choose a direction. Go fully into each possibility, and then explore the next one as it presents itself. You will have much more clarity when Mercury stations direct and the Sun enters your sign the third week of the month.
Get your full Sagittarius reading by Eric here.
Capricorn (Dec. 22-Jan. 20) — This will be a hot week for the gossip circuit, and I suggest you park your consciousness elsewhere. Avoid discussions of other people (if they are not present), and do what you can to avoid being made a topic of conversation. However, that statement excludes being sincere in social situations, which is the very thing you're wanting to learn the most these days. One of the situations you face is being uncomfortable with what you think other people think/feel about you. However, this is gloriously irrelevant if you are comfortable with yourself. You would serve yourself well, though, to be aware that all kinds of people have all kinds of sexual thoughts about you, and there is nothing that you can do about it. Be aware that your speculation of someone's thoughts, or even inferences you may draw, are not necessarily accurate. And whatever ideas enter your mind are your ideas, no matter where you think they "came from."
Get your full Capricorn reading by Eric here.
Aquarius (Jan. 20-Feb. 19) — At this new stage of your vocation, profession or career (however you may think about it), be mindful of mistakes you've made repeatedly. Pause for a few thinking sessions and go through your history and make a list. Maybe there will be one thing, maybe there will be a few; but get familiar with them. This is not necessarily part of your nature, though you will identify tendencies you need to correct or alter; you can choose to do so. This process starts with awareness of what you're addressing, and studying where it may come from. (You will need to consider both parents carefully, and other early influencers.) Mercury retrograde through your 10th house the next few weeks says put new plans on hold, tidy up past accounts and commitments, and plan your next move carefully. You may not have clear data on that until Mercury stations direct on the 20th and the Sun enters Sagittarius on the 22nd. So bide your time and abide it well. And get your resume down to one page.
Get your full Aquarius reading by Eric here.
Pisces (Feb. 19-March 20) — As the world opens up for you, tune into your powers of observation. Let this be on every level. Remember, as Sting said, "In the empire of the senses, you are the queen of all you survey." That also means you are the regent of your feelings, your ideas, your body and your desires. Your relationship to existence, God, Goddess or the universe is your own, one-to-one, direct from source to your soul. All you need to focus on is your connection, and what your senses offer to you. That will provide you with enough information to make any decision you need to make, and navigate any opportunity or challenge. There are plenty of distractions available that can take you out of those two nourishing and guiding factors. There is plenty of needless misery, struggle, jealousy and competition. Don't fall for any of it; stick to the truth and the love of existence that is burning at your core. This may take a good bit of gently sidestepping all that is unnecessary, unhappy or ridiculous. Again and again, come back to yourself, open your eyes, and feel.
