Lightwork Update

By ERIC FRANCIS

London, Tuesday, June 1, 2004

Something is Up, But What?

A wide variety of sources have been talking up the possibility of (i.e., calling for) a new, mass-scale terrorist attack, and recent events certainly seem to be building toward something. The Full Moon in Sagittarius that occurs Thursday morning (or late Wednesday, depending on your time zone) appears to have dramatic international implications, at least serving to illuminate (as in the Moon at its brightest) an intuitive awareness of what is happening to us as part of the global community (Sagittarius).

At the same time, the chart points toward consciousness of our family patterns, offering an image or experience of the allegedly spiritual ideologies and energies that are the beams and foundations of our society's obsession with war and violence. (This is the Sagittarius Full Moon conjunct Quaoar, a planet beyond Pluto, and conjunct the Great Attractor, an intergalactic point that serves as a polarizing agent.)

Why is it that so many people claim to live ideologies of love and charity but support war and violence? Why is it that so many people overlook this contradiction so casually?

I think it's important to be aware of the possibility of terrorist activity mainly as part of having both a personal and community lightwork plan in place. In the event of some kind of mass-scale upsurge of fear, what generally occurs is a rip in the integrity of society. This occurs in ways that are obviously physical and emotional, as well as energetic levels most people don't at this point perceive, yet which affects us in many ways. Lightwork begins and sustains the process of repairing the integrity of the world on the level of subtle energy. Whatever your particular modality, lightwork applies the principles of miracles. This can commence at any time, but it's vital in time of global emergency. Which, by the way, is a continuous state of affairs at the moment, but there are some times that are (let's say) more urgent opportunities for healing than others.

What you are called to do may be some kind of practical activity -- such as moving information, raising money, assisting others in fear, or community volunteering in some way. You may be a teacher who works to demystify or process current events in class; you may be a therapist who responds to what people are going through. You may be a sales person who does the same with your clients. You may work in the medical profession and double as a lightworker. You may do "unofficial" spiritual work within your congregation or parish. Or your response may be perfectly invisible from the outside. But of the many responses of society, this is by far the most necessary and least spoken of. It is the practice of Dharma: acting as if to hold the world together.

I believe that all loving people who have been involved in spiritual practice or study, yoga path, conscious eating, tantra, environmental work or any other awareness-raising discipline (such as gardening); plus musicians, artists and writers and everyone else who has devoted themselves to love and world peace, are the first-responders when lightworkers are needed in large numbers. Like cells or organ systems in the body, when something happens, lightworkers immediately devote energy to the process of collective healing, integrity repair, and assisting those who cannot make it through without such support. Much energy needs to be devoted to kids, who experience these events as life-altering much more palpably than do adults.

Lightworking includes any conscious act of helping scared, hurt or confused people. But the trick, if there is one, is to do so without harming or compromising yourself. This is the integrity factor.

You may know someone who works in this capacity, or you may feel the calling yourself. Everyone is qualified to participate. Much depends on where you direct your intention and your attention, but most depends on having the small willingness to do so. To do this as a community has the feeling of "something happens and responsible people respond." It's a great feeling; it is a great alternative to powerlessness, fear and frustration.

Tonight I took a close look at the Sept. 11, 2001 chart (8:46 a.m., Manhattan) and learned a few very interesting things. Thing One is that Mars crosses the 10th house cusp of that chart at 7:25 p.m. GMD on June 2. This is Wednesday morning in the States, Wednesday evening in England. Mars will cross this angle of the Sept. 11 chart about once every two years; it has happened once before, at the Summer Solstice of 2002. (That was shortly after the first wave of the "Bush Knew" scandal about 10 months after the attacks, but I am drawing a blank as to events of that time otherwise.)

Interesting Thing Two is that both Saturn and the Sun cross the 10th house angle of the Sept. 11 chart within a day of one another on July 7 and 8. But this is not before Saturn walks right over the natal Sun in the July 4, 1776 U.S. chart and the natal chart of George W. Bush in the weeks between now and then (Bush is born July 7, so much of what happens to the July 4 chart happens to him). Saturn going over the Sun (as many Cancers are getting the sense of) is serious growth business. It is about coming to terms with oneself. It is about responding to necessity. It is about growing up. Wouldn't some of that be nice?

To sum up: Suddenly, three charts intimately connected with the destiny of the United States (which greatly affects world destiny) come under the influence of both Mars and Saturn. In addition, Bush's chart is under the additional stress of minor planet Varuna (the equalizer, and punisher of liars) exactly on his Sun, and Saturn squaring a quadruple conjunction in his nativity of Chiron, Juno, Jupiter and the Moon.

Feet on the ground: these astrological events are synchronous with the ongoing, developing fiasco of the "handover of sovereignty" of Iraq. The proposed "handover" is an obvious pretense, with little more substance than a photo-op in the Rose Garden. But it is an American and British pretense, designed to give the occupation a good and legitimate name, since it would conceivably be the new independent Iraq voluntarily requesting the presence of the "coalition" forces and their thousands of hired mercenaries. This is obviously designed to lend credibility to the occupation, the nature of which, barring a miracle, will not change any time in the next couple of decades.

The "handover" appears to be an event that the Iraqis defending their country (known as insurgents on television and in newspapers) want to mess up as effectively as possible, so for one thing we can expect an increase in violence in Iraq as the "handover" approaches. And, given the prevailing state of affairs, it should not be too difficult for the "insurgents" to completely up-end the project. See this article from the (UK) Independent reprinted on truthout.org:

The Sept. 11 chart is under many more aspects than these. Sept. 11 was in part the product of the Saturn-Pluto opposition that began on Aug. 5, 2001. The approaching Full Moon occurs right on the axis of that opposition. What I also find extremely interesting is that this Full Moon is located exactly (as in within one degree) on the third and ninth house cusps of the Sept. 11 chart (Koch houses). These are the houses that carry the group of themes: local, international, writing, publishing, siblings, spirituality, higher learning and consciousness, and education. Together they say: think globally, act locally.

Pluto also is working its way toward the Sept. 11 Chiron, having made an approach within one degree in the current season.

In the midst of this, we will experience the Venus transit of the Sun. This occurs Tuesday June 8 in the 9th house of the Sept. 11 chart, on the Sept. 11 Saturn.

Did you ever get the feeling of looking straight at something but not seeing it?

That's the feeling I have.

I am not getting the sense of imminent disaster here. Rather, I am seeing a series of events that add up to at least the attempt by certain parties in the government and elsewhere (such as the corporate community) to get a grip on what is happening, in an effort to restore some sanity. I see mama coming home (Saturn in the 10th house in Cancer of the rather anarchistic Sept. 11 chart). I see increased participation of the international community. Maybe in a gesture of good will, we will go back to calling them French fries.

Anyway -- none of this has anything to do with the topic of Friday's essay, but it seemed worth entering into the datasphere. If nothing else, I feel better.

Catch you in a few days. Oh and if there are any women's history specialists in the reading audience, I am interested in hearing from you. Please email chelsea@planetwaves.net if you email me -- I'm not online much these days.

Roll away, the dew
