Opening the Door for an Aquarian Eclipse
Dear Friend and Reader:
This week we get the second in our pair of current eclipses: a partial solar eclipse during the Aquarius New Moon on Thursday, Feb. 15. There's been a lot on Planet Waves lately about interrupting old patterns to allow new ones to form -- patterns that will better suit who you're in the process of becoming -- thanks to the general topics of eclipses and Aquarius. That might have you feeling edgy; but the chart for this eclipse underscores the themes in a way that, hopefully, will feel empowering for you.

At its most essential, this New Moon and eclipse involves the Sun and Moon making a conjunction in late Aquarius, exact at 4:05 pm EST (21:05 UTC) on Thursday. The Sun and Moon are also conjunct Mercury and the asteroid Juno.
Those four bodies will span about a degree and a half of Aquarius. That entire cluster is roughly sextile the still-functional Uranus-Eris conjunction in Aries.
It's this sextile that appears to give this event a lot of its potential traction to shift direction -- even on top of the regular ability of eclipses to facilitate this. There's no guarantee that your life will be vastly different in a week, however. You might find the adjustments you make now don't seem that significant, and that's okay.
What matters most is that you make a little effort. A sextile is not a magic wand. It's more like an opportunity you can activate. Think of it like a door: to experience it as anything other than a different section of the wall, you have to grasp the doorknob and open the door; then you can walk through it. Similarly, a sextile's mojo is more likely to reward you if you do your part.

There's been a lot of public discussion recently around power dynamics, and how they influence relationships of all kinds. As the Moon meets Pluto today, it might be helpful to review how this works for you and among those you care about. Is there a specific pattern of empowerment or of feeling disenfranchised? What are you doing to meet your desires and ambitions? Remember that, more often than not, you must be your own advocate. Rights are not given, but won.

If Today is Your Birthday
Aquarius is the sign of patterns, and it's time for some new ones. This includes everything from the ways that you think, to the words that you use, to where you hang out, to how you relate to your community. Try something new every day. Alter your route to and from school or work. Experiment with where you shop and what you buy. You share a birthday with Abraham Lincoln, Judy Blume, and Christina Ricci.
Aries (March 20-April 19) -- You may need to make an important decision today, one that alienates you from people you work with. Still, you must do what is truly necessary, and you seem to have thought this through carefully. Others will, in the end, respect you for being willing to take on this burden.
Taurus (April 19-May 20) -- You may be coming to a realization about life that nobody around you is even close to. If so, stay with that feeling for a while. It contains the seed of new knowledge, which is not ready to be discussed with anyone, or judged by them. It's OK if only you know your deepest inner truth.
Gemini (May 20-June 21) -- Financial or intimate matters of partnership may be threatening to suffer the fate of so many recent Amtrak trains. But you'll keep things on the tracks if you slow down, take a deep breath or three, and let any emotional over-reaction pass through you. Don't provoke a fight and you won't get one.
Cancer (June 21-July 22) -- Nothing is carved into stone; or to use a different metaphor, you're not starring in a one-act play. There is a second act, and today's events are just a setup for what happens next. Keep your eyes open and your ears on, and gather information, which will surely come in handy when you need it most.
Leo (July 22-Aug. 23) -- True commitment comes from the inside out. It's not something you put on like a T-shirt. If you're feeling like you absolutely must get the job done, trust that, and start organizing your life around making it happen. When you move your will, you also move providence. Trust that -- and carry on.
Virgo (Aug. 23-Sep. 22) -- You're in an excellent position to see the patterns in the chaos, and to work for a positive outcome. However, as part of this, you must advocate for those who are getting the short end of the deal, or those who get lost in the shuffle. Part of your service to the planet is being an advocate.
Libra (Sep. 22-Oct. 23) -- Reaching for your emotional independence can be daunting, but don't let that stop you. The sense of being alone is a necessary step on the way to standing on your own. This begins and ends with your ability to make decisions, without letting others sway you. Your life is in fact yours.
Scorpio (Oct. 23-Nov. 22) -- How strongly you feel about something you hear today may surprise you. It may take you out of your ordinary state of mind and focus you on the more important things in life. Welcome that experience, and let it help you set your priorities in order. Remember to be gentle with others.
Sagittarius (Nov. 22-Dec. 22) -- If it's true that you're limited only by your determination, then you have no limits at all. Just don't be too ruthless about accomplishing your goals. Clearly you have to make decisions, though remember they will affect people; and you might solicit some opinions first, and talk things through.
Capricorn (Dec. 22-Jan. 20) -- You'll take a mono-focused, even obsessive, approach to your work today. Once you set a goal, you'll be determined to get it done, and you may work so efficiently that you can leave early. However, pace yourself. Breathe a little oxygen, and stop for food and water. You will not need coffee.
Aquarius Birthdays 2018:
The Perfect Reading for Your Evolving Aquarian Life
"My takeaway from the Aquarius reading is a sense of PEACE. You really do UNDERSTAND what Aquarians are going through these days (and yes, because you do understand and explain the issues I am going through so well). Yes: you are an honorary Aquarian."
-- Eileen
Dear Reader with Aquarius Sun, Moon or Rising Sign:
When you look back on the last year (or listen to last year's Aquarius Birthday reading), what do you notice most? Is it the difficulties you've struggled to overcome; or the new and creative ways you've approached life on your own terms; or the way you've interacted with those around you?
Life as an Aquarius is in the process of shifting: we're between two eclipses that involve your sign; one of your ruling planets has changed signs (Saturn) and another one is gearing up to do so in May (Uranus). And Chiron is about to move into Aries, shifting the focus of your learning and healing agenda, and hopefully providing a little relief.
Both your inner experience and your outer reality are undergoing significant changes. Using his signature blend of astrological experience, therapy training, life coaching, and motivational speaking, Eric will cover these major changes to the sky (along with subtler points) in your upcoming 2018 Aquarius Birthday Reading.
You can still pre-order this reading for the lowest price we offer -- you get two segments of astrology audio (at least 30 minutes each) plus a tarot reading for the year. It will be the perfect complement to your Art of Becoming annual reading (if you've ordered that, too): an intensive audio meditation you can download and listen to anytime, anywhere.
Wishing you a happy birthday season, and dynamic use of these eclipses.
Yours & truly,
Amanda Painter

Aquarius (Jan. 20-Feb. 19) -- Your worst fears rarely come true, though sometimes it's difficult to get your mind off them. Imagine anxiety is a form of energy that can be converted into positive and creative expression. It helps to master this exchange process, given how much paranoia the world is dishing out these days.
Pisces (Feb. 19-March 20) -- You may have to stand on your own, but you're not alone. People will do what they can to help you; though, mostly, you need to help yourself. Advocate for your cause, knowing that you're doing the right thing. Get out of your own way and recognize how much you're appreciated.
