Moving Ground
Dear Friend and Reader:
The astrological traction that has been available to you all week (and which you've hopefully used to move some project or facet of life forward) is still in force. Though as we head toward the weekend, there are a couple of shifts in the energy.
I'm referring, of course, to the 'super-sextile' that has been the standout aspect this week: Mars and Jupiter in Scorpio sextile Venus, the Sun and Pluto in Capricorn. This was the aspect pattern in force for the publication of Fire and Fury, Michael Wolff's incendiary book about the Trump White House; as we've seen, it's led to renewed debate about Trump's mental health, and his absurd call for stronger libel laws.
Yet what caught my attention even more strongly this week was the news of heavy rains in Southern California causing deadly mudslides in areas that are bereft of vegetation, thanks to last year's brutal wildfires. It's a perfect -- though terrible -- image of this Scorpio-Capricorn super-sextile: dramatic movement involving water and earth; the cosmically ironic flipside of the "traction" idea used to describe this astrology at the beginning of the week.
As reported by Democracy Now!, climate scientists say the wildfires and extreme weather causing the mudslides (which, so far, have killed at least 17 people) are, in part, a direct result of greenhouse gas emissions. It's another reminder that the effects of global warming are not far-off things to fear in the future, and they're not just happening in the background.
We're experiencing the effects now; and we're going to experience them in the foreground more frequently, thanks to moves like including in the recent tax reform bill a provision that opens up the Arctic Wildlife Refuge to oil drilling. It's something Trump reaffirmed on Wednesday, when he commented during a press conference with the prime minister of Norway, "I am for massive oil and gas and everything else and a lot of energy. Putin can't love that."
Try as he might to distance himself from Russia in the wake of Wolff's disclosures about collusion during the 2016 election, I don't think Trump's jabs at Putin on Wednesday will put off Special Counsel Robert Mueller -- nor will repeating "no collusion" eight times in one minute. The ground he's standing on is looking more and more like a California mudslide.

If Your Birthday is Jan. 12
(The Day of the Wild Call) | Capricorn Birthday Reading | All Other Signs
Maintain your focus, which means applying a measure of discipline to every facet of your life. Saturn is now in your sign, which is granting you a resource to work with, and also making organization and timeliness top priorities. Today's Mercury-Saturn meeting is a reminder that good ideas take time and patience to develop -- and that means persistence.
Current Capricorn Weekly Horoscope
Your sign is somewhat famous for a priggish attitude toward sex. That's funny, since you're probably one of the more sexual people you know, even if you veil that with proper attire and an insistence on seeming prim, at nearly any cost.

Current Capricorn Monthly Horoscope
Saturn's return to your birth sign describes a sense of completeness you have not felt for a very long time, if ever. Take a moment to collect yourself: a week or two of reflecting on your goals and preparing your mind.

Written in the Planets
Over the next couple of days, Venus and the Sun will form squares to Eris and then Uranus. These two bodies are in the last phase of their infamous conjunction before Uranus moves on to Taurus in May. This double square suggests a possible sense of rebellion against the technology that has transformed our lives. Tempting as it might seem, the solution to any frustration you might feel is unlikely to be cutting yourself off from all electrical items and retiring to a cabin in the woods. What you can do with far less trouble is make a little space for yourself to disengage from the constant barrage of social media. Go out for a walk, do some painting or meet real people actually in person. You may, if you wish, consider every such act a blow for humanity, sanity and peace.
The Art of Becoming is Becoming
Dear Friend and Reader:
This is an update on The Art of Becoming, my 2018 annual edition for Planet Waves. Last week, I produced an introductory video [play here], in which I review the build-up to this year's distinctive astrology.
|
In this special episode of Planet Waves TV [ play video here], I set the scene for the remarkable astrology of 2018. I begin with a recap of Pluto in Capricorn and Uranus-Eris, before outlining the forthcoming sign changes of several major planets. |
We promised the annual edition for "sometime in January" and with one exception (involving audio) I've always come through with that. What makes this year interesting is that, for the first time, I'm also writing a daily horoscope, in the New York Daily News.
The first items to be delivered will be the videos on Saturn, Chiron and Uranus (more information here), which will be included if you pre-order all 12 signs. These videos will contain details on how to work with your life cycles and really see what these transits mean.
I've now uploaded the first video, covering Saturn in Capricorn, though as of this moment, most of this work is ahead of me. So, please send some good vibes. Next will come my written presentations (possibly with extra audio sessions), mapping out in detail how the astrology of 2018 will look for each of the signs. This is my 20th annual edition, and your readings will get the full benefit of all my experience. If you want to get a feeling for how that looks, you may access the full 2017 annual here with our compliments.
If you'd like to dig a little deeper, you're invited to check out our previous annual editions going back to 1999 (here's a letter explaining more about their history).
You may pre-order all 12 signs for just $99 here. We recommend this as best value; note that you can share the readings with your household. Alternatively, you may choose your individual signs here.
Thank you for your interest in Planet Waves. As ever, it's good to be with you.
With love,
Daily Horoscope for January 12, 2018 | By Eric Francis Coppolino
If Today is Your Birthday
Maintain your focus, which means applying a measure of discipline to every facet of your life. Saturn is now in your sign, which is granting you a resource to work with, and also making organization and timeliness top priorities. Today's Mercury-Saturn meeting is a reminder that good ideas take time and patience to develop -- and that means persistence. You share a birthday with John Singer Sargent, Swami Vivekananda, and Mel C.
Aries (March 20-April 19) -- Be cautious with any conduct that might seem rebellious for its own sake. You have no need to prove anything, and trust is easy to squander these days. Take a serious approach to serious matters; and, rather than assuming, make sure you understand what is expected of you.
"Self-awareness, both of your thoughts and of your conduct, is your most powerful tool to influence your experience of growth into the new forms that you are. This includes reaching deep enough into yourself that you make some contact with the aspect of you that is timeless and changeless."
-- From your 2017 annual reading by Eric Francis, The Book of Your Life -- which you can read here. Eric has now begun work on the 2018 annual edition -- The Art of Becoming. You may Pre-order all 12 signs or choose your individual signs.
Taurus (April 19-May 20) -- As a Taurus, consistency is important, of belief and of behavior. However, you might want to suspend that rule for the weekend, so that you can make room for ideas that don't fit your previous belief system. You are growing in leaps and bounds, and actual growth implies change.
"There is a genuine skill in creative mastery that involves standing back from judging what you've created. You might listen to what other people say; you might work until what you're doing feels good; you might take a swashbuckling attitude and not care; you might trust the fact that you always strive to do better (or any of these at the right moment)."
-- From your 2017 annual reading by Eric Francis, The Book of Your Life -- which you can read here. Eric has now begun work on the 2018 annual edition -- The Art of Becoming. You may Pre-order all 12 signs or choose your individual signs.
Gemini (May 20-June 21) -- Don't worry if a plan unravels after weeks of progress. Focus on what you want to happen, and keep your mind on the known facts. Once the dust settles, the scenario will very likely come right back around to something that works for you, even if others take the long way getting there.
"You're the one who has to negotiate between your potential and what you do with it. This is an active, everyday challenge being a Gemini. The world can seem so much bigger than you are, and in one way it is -- but your mind is the thing that encompasses the world, all the world's people and all your experiences there."
-- From your 2017 annual reading by Eric Francis, The Book of Your Life -- which you can read here. Eric has now begun work on the 2018 annual edition -- The Art of Becoming. You may Pre-order all 12 signs or choose your individual signs.
Cancer (June 21-July 22) -- When in doubt, check that you're making your own decisions. You or a close partner might be feeling as if you have to answer to some invisible authority lurking in the back of your mind. Know what you want, agree to that collectively with anyone involved, and do that very thing.
"Notice your true feelings for people and make peace with the fact that you feel that way. You may have had a habit of resisting intimacy, and now you have little choice but to yield and open up to allowing others to touch your soul. In this way, you will come to the direct experience of growing into the soul dimension of your life."
-- From your 2017 annual reading by Eric Francis, The Book of Your Life -- which you can read here. Eric has now begun work on the 2018 annual edition -- The Art of Becoming. You may Pre-order all 12 signs or choose your individual signs.
Leo (July 22-Aug. 23) -- Current aspects are about balancing your work life and your home life. Ideally some of that would include working from home at least part of the week, even one day. Managers are mostly concerned with productivity and accountability. Make sure they know those are your top concerns.
"Rather than thinking of yourself as the entity that holds all the planets in orbit, think of yourself as someone who grounds the Sun into the Earth. This is actually what you do in the physical and spiritual sense, and it grants you some relief from the much larger responsibility of providing all the power and all the gravity."
-- From your 2017 annual reading by Eric Francis, The Book of Your Life -- which you can read here. Eric has now begun work on the 2018 annual edition -- The Art of Becoming. You may Pre-order all 12 signs or choose your individual signs.
Virgo (Aug. 23-Sep. 22) -- Don't let work-related pressure get to you. If you have many tasks requiring you to be creative, then you need to hang loose, and keep your sense of humor. This is how you facilitate the flow of ideas. You'll be amazed how inspired you can be while laughing at a puzzle, problem or situation.
"There comes that time in any growth or improvement project where you have to ease back, have a glass of wine or even smoke a cigarette. Radical, I know. However, you're at a stage of your life where you must follow your own rules, and to do that, your rules must be practical and workable."
-- From your 2017 annual reading by Eric Francis, The Book of Your Life -- which you can read here. Eric has now begun work on the 2018 annual edition -- The Art of Becoming. You may Pre-order all 12 signs or choose your individual signs.
Libra (Sep. 22-Oct. 23) -- You may be taking too much responsibility for an issue that's not really your own. It's true that you prefer to keep everything neat and orderly, though make sure you notice when someone else makes a mess and you decide it's yours to deal with. All of these dishes are coming from somewhere.
"Rather than being a clear mirror, relationships can often feel like a house of smoke and mirrors. This is especially a concern due to the experience of projection: ascribing to others feelings that are actually your own. Anais Nin is credited with saying, 'We don't see things as they are. We see them as we are.'"
-- From your 2017 annual reading by Eric Francis, The Book of Your Life -- which you can read here. Eric has now begun work on the 2018 annual edition -- The Art of Becoming. You may Pre-order all 12 signs or choose your individual signs.
Scorpio (Oct. 23-Nov. 22) -- You really must do something with all these good ideas. This is not about going for the glory and the gold, but rather keeping yourself occupied with something interesting that teaches you something new. If you have a story to tell, then tell it. If you want to create something beautiful, make it.
"The self-esteem theme, described by the union of your 1st and 2nd houses, is the claiming back of your natural desire as a birthright. If you are in doubt about what you want, or if you consider it a potential moral affront, it's difficult to feel good about yourself. For you, taking possession of desire is integral to your respect of yourself."
-- From your 2017 annual reading by Eric Francis, The Book of Your Life -- which you can read here. Eric has now begun work on the 2018 annual edition -- The Art of Becoming. You may Pre-order all 12 signs or choose your individual signs.
Sagittarius (Nov. 22-Dec. 22) -- Keep a positive outlook, even if you think your financial situation is bleak. It's not as bad as you may think, though you need to put some work and thought into making real improvements. You need a long-term plan that specifically addresses money, and which preserves your integrity.
"The overwhelming message of this series of South Node eclipses is that you must get beyond your own past, and find the present. Finding the present means sorting out your emotional reality to the point where you understand what happened, and what it means -- and use it as a source of strength rather than of weakness."

Capricorn Audio Birthday Reading is Ready!
Dear Friend and Reader:
Your Capricorn birthday reading is now published. It's about 70 minutes in length, in two sessions. This is your birthday audio -- an entirely different reading from The Art of Becoming, which will be ready in January.
You are living in extraordinary times, as a Capricorn or Cap rising. There's been nothing quite like this in your sign since the early 1990s, when the Uranus-Neptune connection passed through town. That was a while ago -- and what you're now working with is just as significant.
At the moment, the Sun, Venus, Saturn and Pluto are in your sign, which is building to a series of major events that peak in 2020. That may seem like a long way off, though time marches on. The presence of Saturn, the ruling planet of Capricorn, is a reminder to tend to your growth, shore up your foundations, and take your place in the world.
Saturn in your sign is helping to ground you in your real priorities.
In this reading, I focus on several key points of development, though none is as important as your relationship to your family, and your family history. For all you want to do in life, all the ways you want to succeed, and solidify your process of self-actualization: the family connection is essential.
This relates directly to your most intimate partnerships, because they're based on an emotional foundation that was laid in childhood. I provide specific information about how to work with these elements, and how to engage in productive self-therapy (it's not always so useful, but it can be).
Your reading includes access to last year's recording, plus your 2017 written reading (from The Book of Your Life), and a tarot reading that will arrive in about a month (maybe more, maybe less).
You can get instant access when you order the reading here for just $44. We will increase the price further when the Tarot section is published.
This reading is also included with the Backstage Pass. If you're not a BSP member, you can upgrade and extend your current subscription, and the Capricorn reading will be included.
Thank you for being a Planet Waves customer.
With love,
Capricorn (Dec. 22-Jan. 20) -- You'll accomplish everything you need to do today by doing one thing at a time till you're done. Then it looks like you need to give your mind a day off. Usually that means some time with nothing scheduled, no deeds to do and no promises to keep, as the old song goes. One day will help.
"If you're worried about your reputation, this is merely another way of assigning power over yourself to others. You cannot control what anyone thinks, and no matter how pure, sinister, friendly, loving, raunchy, talented or slothy you might be, people will think what they want. What they might think is not your business."
-- From your 2017 annual reading by Eric Francis, The Book of Your Life -- which you can read here. Eric has now begun work on the 2018 annual edition -- The Art of Becoming. You may Pre-order all 12 signs or choose your individual signs.
Aquarius (Jan. 20-Feb. 19) -- You may be worried about something you cannot put words to. Therefore, it would serve your interests to describe your concerns in as clear terms as possible, though keep this thought process to yourself for now. Once you really have a clue, express your thoughts to those who need to know.
"It looks to me like you need to call an end to a certain line of conduct or thinking that has been in your family for a while. The opportunity you have is based on the fact that you can actually see this issue for what it is. It's normally difficult to discern, and it's been masked or veiled recently by its prevalence in society. Once you have it in your sights, address it on the spot."
-- From your 2017 annual reading by Eric Francis, The Book of Your Life -- which you can read here. Eric has now begun work on the 2018 annual edition -- The Art of Becoming. You may Pre-order all 12 signs or choose your individual signs.
Pisces (Feb. 19-March 20) -- To keep your positive momentum on work-related projects, make sure you get out and play. You need both right now, even if the ratio is four parts work to one part recreation. That one element of fun, especially socializing, will make your work easier, more meaningful and more productive.
"You mean a great deal to the people close to you, and though they may not say anything about it, they certainly know it. If it ever seems that people benefit from you more than you benefit from them, rejoice in that fact. You need less than they do; you are more complete in yourself than most people around you; and anyway, that self-completion is the major theme of your astrology."
