In case you missed it, here's Friday's special interview with former New York Times reporter James Risen, who left the paper in August to join The Intercept as senior national security correspondent. This week, he published a 15,000-word story headlined "The Biggest Secret: My Life as a New York Times Reporter in the Shadow of the War on Terror." The explosive piece describes his struggles to publish major national security stories in the post-9/11 period and how both the government and his own editors at The New York Times suppressed his reporting, including reports on the Bush administration's warrantless wiretapping program, for which he would later win the Pulitzer Prize. Risen describes meetings between key Times editors and top officials at the CIA and the White House. His refusal to name a source would take him to the Supreme Court, and he almost wound up in jail.

(The Day of Unusual Interests) | Capricorn Birthday Reading | All Other Signs
Settle for nothing less than perfect alignment of yourself with who you are, what you do, and who you aspire to being. Among friends and colleagues, you're someone who is looked to as an example of what is possible. Yet you're only using a small fraction of your potential, and the rest is right within reach. You are ready, and you're surely willing. So make it happen.

Stop yourself every time you notice yourself saying, "But what would my [mother/father/family] think?" This may be subtle; it may be below the level of tangible inner dialog, though the message will still come through.

Saturn's return to your birth sign describes a sense of completeness you have not felt for a very long time, if ever. Take a moment to collect yourself: a week or two of reflecting on your goals and preparing your mind.

Written in the Planets
Today the Moon enters Libra and makes a square to Saturn. This might be a worthwhile moment for considering how you're acclimatizing to Saturn in Capricorn. What have the last few weeks been like for you? If it's been somewhat challenging so far, this contact from the Libra Moon may signal a chance for you to make peace with this placement. As this is a square aspect, though, you'll need to put in the effort actively: to ferret out and work consciously with any issue that could have arisen. Think of it like replacing your car or bicycle (or armchair) -- often at first you find yourself needing to adjust the seat, or add extra support. There may be something equally simple you can do to ease the present process.

The Art of Becoming is Becoming

Dear Friend and Reader:

This is an update on The Art of Becoming, my 2018 annual edition for Planet Waves. Tuesday, I produced an introductory video [play here], in which I review the build-up to this year's distinctive astrology.

Planet Waves
In this new episode of Planet Waves TV [play video here], I set the scene for the remarkable astrology of 2018. I begin with a recap of Pluto in Capricorn and Uranus-Eris, before outlining the forthcoming sign changes of several major planets.
We promised the annual edition for "sometime in January" and with one exception (involving audio) I've always come through with that. What makes this year interesting is that, for the first time, I'm also writing a daily horoscope, in the New York Daily News.

The first items to be delivered will be the videos on Saturn, Chiron and Uranus (more information here), which will be included if you pre-order all 12 signs. These videos will contain details on how to work with your life cycles and really see what these transits mean.

I've now uploaded the first video, covering Saturn in Capricorn, though as of this moment, most of this work is ahead of me. So, please send some good vibes.

Next will come my written presentations (possibly with extra audio sessions), mapping out in detail how the astrology of 2018 will look for each of the signs. This is my 20th annual edition, and your readings will get the full benefit of all my experience. If you want to get a feeling for how that looks, you may access the full 2017 annual here with our compliments.

If you'd like to dig a little deeper, you're invited to check out our previous annual editions going back to 1999 (here's a letter explaining more about their history).

You may pre-order all 12 signs for just $99 here. We recommend this as best value; note that you can share the readings with your household. Alternatively, you may choose your individual signs here.

Thank you for your interest in Planet Waves. As ever, it's good to be with you.

With love,

Planet Waves

If Today is Your Birthday
Settle for nothing less than perfect alignment of yourself with who you are, what you do, and who you aspire to being. Among friends and colleagues, you're someone who is looked to as an example of what is possible. Yet you're only using a small fraction of your potential, and the rest is right within reach. You are ready, and you're surely willing. So make it happen. You share a birthday with Zora Neale Hurston, Charles Addams and Nicolas Cage.
Aries
Aries (March 20-April 19) -- You're advancing toward an important decision. You'll know you're there because suddenly the correct choice will be obvious, and taking action will be easy. Don't rush this or act prematurely. You're learning a lot these days, and you're still several discoveries ahead of making a move.
"Self-awareness, both of your thoughts and of your conduct, is your most powerful tool to influence your experience of growth into the new forms that you are. This includes reaching deep enough into yourself that you make some contact with the aspect of you that is timeless and changeless."

-- From your 2017 annual reading by Eric Francis, The Book of Your Life -- which you can read here. Eric has now begun work on the 2018 annual edition -- The Art of Becoming. You may Pre-order all 12 signs or choose your individual signs.
Taurus
Taurus (April 19-May 20) -- You don't have to agree with someone for there to be a productive conversation. You can learn something from any viewpoint, no matter how ridiculous or wise. A close partner or colleague has some strong opinions. Listen carefully, ask questions and feed your mind.
"There is a genuine skill in creative mastery that involves standing back from judging what you've created. You might listen to what other people say; you might work until what you're doing feels good; you might take a swashbuckling attitude and not care; you might trust the fact that you always strive to do better (or any of these at the right moment)."

-- From your 2017 annual reading by Eric Francis, The Book of Your Life -- which you can read here. Eric has now begun work on the 2018 annual edition -- The Art of Becoming. You may Pre-order all 12 signs or choose your individual signs.
Gemini
Gemini (May 20-June 21) -- Pay particular attention to financial and contractual matters this week, as several important developments are brewing. Do not leave the decisions up to partners and experts. You must be aware of every step in the process, make your opinions known, and take charge when necessary.
"You're the one who has to negotiate between your potential and what you do with it. This is an active, everyday challenge being a Gemini. The world can seem so much bigger than you are, and in one way it is -- but your mind is the thing that encompasses the world, all the world's people and all your experiences there."

-- From your 2017 annual reading by Eric Francis, The Book of Your Life -- which you can read here. Eric has now begun work on the 2018 annual edition -- The Art of Becoming. You may Pre-order all 12 signs or choose your individual signs.
Cancer
Cancer (June 21-July 22) -- Humans have a tendency to set their standards rather low where relationships are concerned. Some will settle for anyone, but you must do better. By now you know what you need in a partner, love interest or friend. Keep in mind exactly what those characteristics are, and be alert for who possesses them.
"Notice your true feelings for people and make peace with the fact that you feel that way. You may have had a habit of resisting intimacy, and now you have little choice but to yield and open up to allowing others to touch your soul. In this way, you will come to the direct experience of growing into the soul dimension of your life."

-- From your 2017 annual reading by Eric Francis, The Book of Your Life -- which you can read here. Eric has now begun work on the 2018 annual edition -- The Art of Becoming. You may Pre-order all 12 signs or choose your individual signs.
Leo
Leo (July 22-Aug. 23) -- Your confidence should be at an all-time high, unless you let your fear of change mess with you. Progress is impossible without change, and you're on the team that's focused on getting things done. Work closely with others when that's necessary, and be bold about making personal changes you need to make.
"Rather than thinking of yourself as the entity that holds all the planets in orbit, think of yourself as someone who grounds the Sun into the Earth. This is actually what you do in the physical and spiritual sense, and it grants you some relief from the much larger responsibility of providing all the power and all the gravity."

-- From your 2017 annual reading by Eric Francis, The Book of Your Life -- which you can read here. Eric has now begun work on the 2018 annual edition -- The Art of Becoming. You may Pre-order all 12 signs or choose your individual signs.
Virgo
Virgo (Aug. 23-Sep. 22) -- The verbal element is what's most often left out of sex and intimacy: real conversations about what you feel, what you need, and what you want. Take the initiative over the next few days, and have the discussions you know will make your relationships a better place.
"There comes that time in any growth or improvement project where you have to ease back, have a glass of wine or even smoke a cigarette. Radical, I know. However, you're at a stage of your life where you must follow your own rules, and to do that, your rules must be practical and workable."

-- From your 2017 annual reading by Eric Francis, The Book of Your Life -- which you can read here. Eric has now begun work on the 2018 annual edition -- The Art of Becoming. You may Pre-order all 12 signs or choose your individual signs.
Libra
Libra (Sep. 22-Oct. 23) -- If you can hold your emotional center this week, you will be able to make some decisions that advance your life, especially where family finances are concerned. Everyone must pull together toward the same goal; and, if that happens, the result will be impressive, unusual progress.
"Rather than being a clear mirror, relationships can often feel like a house of smoke and mirrors. This is especially a concern due to the experience of projection: ascribing to others feelings that are actually your own. Anais Nin is credited with saying, 'We don't see things as they are. We see them as we are.'"

-- From your 2017 annual reading by Eric Francis, The Book of Your Life -- which you can read here. Eric has now begun work on the 2018 annual edition -- The Art of Becoming. You may Pre-order all 12 signs or choose your individual signs.
Scorpio
Scorpio (Oct. 23-Nov. 22) -- You're in rare form right now, and you could persuade anyone of anything. Yet what you really need is to persuade yourself that all of your goals are within reach, then take action to make them happen. That will require months, not days -- longer than this week's amazing astrology will last.
"The self-esteem theme, described by the union of your 1st and 2nd houses, is the claiming back of your natural desire as a birthright. If you are in doubt about what you want, or if you consider it a potential moral affront, it's difficult to feel good about yourself. For you, taking possession of desire is integral to your respect of yourself."

-- From your 2017 annual reading by Eric Francis, The Book of Your Life -- which you can read here. Eric has now begun work on the 2018 annual edition -- The Art of Becoming. You may Pre-order all 12 signs or choose your individual signs.
Sagittarius
Sagittarius (Nov. 22-Dec. 22) -- Continue thinking big, on a whole other scale than you're used to. You define your own success, so make sure you take all the necessary factors into account, including financial; but, more significantly, what matters the most to you. Your personal business plan must also include a life plan.
"The overwhelming message of this series of South Node eclipses is that you must get beyond your own past, and find the present. Finding the present means sorting out your emotional reality to the point where you understand what happened, and what it means -- and use it as a source of strength rather than of weakness."

Capricorn Audio Birthday Reading is Ready!

Dear Friend and Reader:

Last week, I recorded your Capricorn birthday reading. It's about 70 minutes in length, in two sessions. This is your birthday audio -- an entirely different reading from The Art of Becoming, which will be ready in January.

You are living in extraordinary times, as a Capricorn or Cap rising. There's been nothing quite like this in your sign since the early 1990s, when the Uranus-Neptune connection passed through town. That was a while ago -- and what you're now working with is just as significant.

Planet Waves
At the moment, the Sun, Venus, Saturn and Pluto are in your sign, which is building to a series of major events that peak in 2020. That may seem like a long way off, though time marches on. The presence of Saturn, the ruling planet of Capricorn, is a reminder to tend to your growth, shore up your foundations, and take your place in the world.

Saturn in your sign is helping to ground you in your real priorities.

In this reading, I focus on several key points of development, though none is as important as your relationship to your family, and your family history. For all you want to do in life, all the ways you want to succeed, and solidify your process of self-actualization: the family connection is essential.

This relates directly to your most intimate partnerships, because they're based on an emotional foundation that was laid in childhood. I provide specific information about how to work with these elements, and how to engage in productive self-therapy (it's not always so useful, but it can be).

Your reading includes access to last year's recording, plus your 2017 written reading (from The Book of Your Life), and a tarot reading that will arrive in about a month (maybe more, maybe less).

You can get instant access when you order the reading here for just $44. We will increase the price further when the Tarot section is published.

This reading is also included with the Backstage Pass. If you're not a BSP member, you can upgrade and extend your current subscription, and the Capricorn reading will be included.

Thank you for being a Planet Waves customer.

With love,
eric

Capricorn
Capricorn (Dec. 22-Jan. 20) -- This will be one of the most interesting weeks in a long time; or it will, if you can get out of your own way. Your preconceived ideas about reality are your worst friend. They may help you deal with your insecurities, though that's not exactly aspirational. To create change, you must change.
"If you're worried about your reputation, this is merely another way of assigning power over yourself to others. You cannot control what anyone thinks, and no matter how pure, sinister, friendly, loving, raunchy, talented or slothy you might be, people will think what they want. What they might think is not your business."

-- From your 2017 annual reading by Eric Francis, The Book of Your Life -- which you can read here. Eric has now begun work on the 2018 annual edition -- The Art of Becoming. You may Pre-order all 12 signs or choose your individual signs.
Aquarius
Aquarius (Jan. 20-Feb. 19) -- How do you respond when positive things come into your life? Study that carefully this week. Do you welcome and embrace them, or do you push them away? Do you appreciate what you have when you have it, or only when you no longer do? Stay in the moment and notice its beauty.
"It looks to me like you need to call an end to a certain line of conduct or thinking that has been in your family for a while. The opportunity you have is based on the fact that you can actually see this issue for what it is. It's normally difficult to discern, and it's been masked or veiled recently by its prevalence in society. Once you have it in your sights, address it on the spot."

-- From your 2017 annual reading by Eric Francis, The Book of Your Life -- which you can read here. Eric has now begun work on the 2018 annual edition -- The Art of Becoming. You may Pre-order all 12 signs or choose your individual signs.
Pisces
Pisces (Feb. 19-March 20) -- Focus on what's truly important to you, and what feels right in your blood and in your cells, and you'll make the right decisions and manifest some of your dearest desires. Don't count yourself out of anything. Remind yourself that you belong on the planet, and you can find what you want right here.
"You mean a great deal to the people close to you, and though they may not say anything about it, they certainly know it. If it ever seems that people benefit from you more than you benefit from them, rejoice in that fact. You need less than they do; you are more complete in yourself than most people around you; and anyway, that self-completion is the major theme of your astrology."
