"Since the conception of human rights transcends local legislation and the citizenship of the person affected, it is not surprising that support for human rights can also come from anyone -- whether or not she is a citizen of the same country as the person whose rights are threatened. A foreigner does not need the permission of a repressive government to try to help a person whose liberties are being violated. Indeed, in so far as human rights are seen as rights that any person has as a human being and not as a citizen of any particular country, the reach of the corresponding duties can also include any human being, irrespective of citizenship."

A Momentary Taste of Justice
Dear Friend and Reader:
News got out last Friday night that the Special Counsel's office would be making arrests Monday morning in the matter of the Trump campaign's collaboration with the Kremlin to interfere with the 2016 U.S. presidential election. When we learned Monday morning that Paul Manafort, the former campaign chairman, and his deputy Rick Gates, had turned themselves in to the federal district court, I knew that was the start of something big.
After enduring Donald Trump's antics for two years, his lies and brazenly criminal conduct and, worst, his obnoxious and swaggering narcissism, finally something had actually happened in response. Two top campaign officials were charged with a long list of financial crimes and conspiracy, most of which involved relationships to Russia and Ukraine.

While Trump was busy tweeting that Manafort's and Gates' 12-count indictments did not directly involve the campaign, news broke that a third defendant, George Papadopoulos, age 30, who was a "foreign policy advisor" during the campaign, had already entered a guilty plea and had been cooperating with prosecutors since July.
That was the more interesting news: that the efforts of Robert Mueller III, the Special Counsel, had already flipped a key witness and obtained a conviction. In what must have been the most stealth arrest in history, FBI agents working for Mueller's office picked up Papadopoulos at Dulles International Airport on July 27 and made him an offer he couldn't refuse. As a young man of 30, he had nothing to lose and only to gain by working with prosecutors.
He pleaded guilty to one count of lying to an FBI agent (which happened just a week after the inauguration), with no jail time recommended. He earned that privilege.

If Your Birthday is Nov. 3
(The Day of the Long Breath) | Scorpio Birthday Reading | All Other Signs
People will inspire you, motivate you, and surprise you this year. But don't let them drive you crazy. You must set limits on what you're willing to exchange with people, and how much you'll tolerate. That will call for setting boundaries, which will include time, space, money and energy. You have earned your happiness; you really should keep it.
Written in the Planets
Are you feeling especially aware of some kind of relationship-related psychological wound that simply feels like it will never -- and can never -- heal? Take heart; for one thing, that sensation of "won't ever heal" is an illusion. If you're aware of it, you can heal it -- though it might take time and effort, or the right timing, tools and assistance. Today, this situation is described by Venus in Libra conjunct the asteroid Psyche. The assistance is represented by the sextile they are making to Saturn, which is conjunct the Galactic Core in Sagittarius. While Saturn brings in the level of practical reality you must work with, and also offers a structure within which to work, the Galactic Core is beaming in some cosmic-level vibes. You are the beloved; not because of what you do or who you are, but simply because you are. Remind yourself as often as you need to.
By any standards, 2018 will be a distinctive year astrologically. Get your essential guide to riding the waves of the next 12 months and beyond. Pre-order The Art of Becoming, the 2018 Planet Waves Annual by Eric Francis.

If Today is Your Birthday
People will inspire you, motivate you, and surprise you this year. But don't let them drive you crazy. You must set limits on what you're willing to exchange with people, and how much you'll tolerate. That will call for setting boundaries, which will include time, space, money and energy. You have earned your happiness; you really should keep it. You share a birthday with Sonny Rhodes, Lulu and Kate Capshaw.
Aries (March 20-April 19) -- Be careful with your finances over the next few days. Something that seems like it might pay off big-time could be an illusion. Or, it could be an excellent investment. You must get all the facts before you proceed, and not go on any hunches or gut instincts. Use your mind instead.
"Self-awareness, both of your thoughts and of your conduct, is your most powerful tool to influence your experience of growth into the new forms that you are. This includes reaching deep enough into yourself that you make some contact with the aspect of you that is timeless and changeless."
-- From your 2017 annual reading by Eric Francis, The Book of Your Life -- which you can read here. Eric's beginning work on the 2018 annual edition -- you may pre-order that here.
Taurus (April 19-May 20) -- There are some amazing resources available to you: people willing to help, work to do, money to be made and, best of all, unusual things to learn. Yet you will need a long-term plan if you want to get that gold out of the ground. We could sum that plan up in one word: collaboration.
"There is a genuine skill in creative mastery that involves standing back from judging what you’ve created. You might listen to what other people say; you might work until what you’re doing feels good; you might take a swashbuckling attitude and not care; you might trust the fact that you always strive to do better (or any of these at the right moment)."
-- From your 2017 annual reading by Eric Francis, The Book of Your Life -- which you can read here. Eric's beginning work on the 2018 annual edition -- you may pre-order that here.
Gemini (May 20-June 21) -- Proceed with care and caution over the next few days, as the Full Moon peaks, and as your ruling planet Mercury changes signs. There are certain essential facts currently hidden from your view. By the time Mercury enters Sagittarius on Thursday, you'll have a much better understanding of your own affairs.
"You're the one who has to negotiate between your potential and what you do with it. This is an active, everyday challenge being a Gemini. The world can seem so much bigger than you are, and in one way it is -- but your mind is the thing that encompasses the world, all the world’s people and all your experiences there."
-- From your 2017 annual reading by Eric Francis, The Book of Your Life -- which you can read here. Eric's beginning work on the 2018 annual edition -- you may pre-order that here.
Cancer (June 21-July 22) -- For the next two days, the Full Moon will streak across the most public and visible angle of your solar chart. The place you want to be is where you can be seen, where you have an audience, or at least where you can have a real conversation. Keep it real. You are a rare person of substance.
"Notice your true feelings for people and make peace with the fact that you feel that way. You may have had a habit of resisting intimacy, and now you have little choice but to yield and open up to allowing others to touch your soul. In this way, you will come to the direct experience of growing into the soul dimension of your life."
-- From your 2017 annual reading by Eric Francis, The Book of Your Life -- which you can read here. Eric's beginning work on the 2018 annual edition -- you may pre-order that here.
Leo (July 22-Aug. 23) -- It's time to focus the ideas you've had the past few days into a coherent plan. Keep in mind what direction you're headed, and then plot and scheme the next two weeks or so to move you in that direction. You have a bold vision, which focuses the importance of proceeding in conscious steps.
"Rather than thinking of yourself as the entity that holds all the planets in orbit, think of yourself as someone who grounds the Sun into the Earth. This is actually what you do in the physical and spiritual sense, and it grants you some relief from the much larger responsibility of providing all the power and all the gravity."

Virgo (Aug. 23-Sep. 22) -- Review your notes and retrieve an idea that seemed brilliant at the time, but which you've probably overlooked. Do this even if you don't know what you're looking for: scan old emails, your day planner and random jottings on paper. You'll discover it's even more valuable today.
"There comes that time in any growth or improvement project where you have to ease back, have a glass of wine or even smoke a cigarette. Radical, I know. However, you’re at a stage of your life where you must follow your own rules, and to do that, your rules must be practical and workable."

Libra (Sep. 22-Oct. 23) -- Attend to a lingering financial matter that needs your attention. Make sure that all records of the past are correct, and that you have not overlooked anything important. Then take what you've learned from that chapter of history and make it work for you right now, today.
"Rather than being a clear mirror, relationships can often feel like a house of smoke and mirrors. This is especially a concern due to the experience of projection: ascribing to others feelings that are actually your own. Anais Nin is credited with saying, 'We don't see things as they are. We see them as we are.'"

Sensing Behind the Veil: Your Guide into a Big Year
"Your passion, deep care and love always shine through; and you have the gift of all great teachers, of making one feel that one is being personally addressed, respected and taken care of."
-- Liz Glanville
Dear Scorpio Friend and Reader:
Here we are in that time when the veil between this world and unseen realms is said to be thinnest. I know many people, including several Scorpios, who revel in the sensations of this season. Yet tuning in takes conscious intention; it asks you to make time and psychic space for subtler forms of connection than what modern life generally facilitates.
That's one of the beauties of your 2017-18 Scorpio Birthday Reading: it's the ideal tool to help you tune in -- to yourself, to the astrology, to your soul's purpose in this world, and to your connection to the subtler realms.
Your solar year is beginning with astonishing potential, thanks to Jupiter's presence. And while Jupiter is not exactly 'subtle', it still asks you to make conscious contact with its energy -- Eric will guide you in how to make the most of it.
With Saturn, Uranus and Chiron changing signs, your environment will be shifting -- yet another great reason to focus your bandwidth and deepen your awareness.
In particular, Uranus entering your opposite sign and 'relationship house' -- Taurus -- could bring some surprises over the next few years. Listening to your birthday reading will help you get oriented on the inherent creative potential, and to channel your energy and emotion in deeply productive ways.
Your reading will include two astrology segments of at least 30 minutes each, plus a tarot reading using the Voyager Tarot by James Wanless (you also get an extended description of your sign). Recorded in pro-quality audio, you can listen as many times as you like.
And, you'll want to: Eric creates these readings to combine the best of his motivational life-coaching skills; the best of his therapy training; and the most down-to-Earth, practical, jargon-free astrological insights you'll find anywhere on the internet.
"A devoted follower of your work since 2008, and a supporting member now for more than a year, I feel your readings are spot on so I keep coming back."
-- Lesley (Scorpio x 3)

P.S. If you know and love anyone with a Scorpio Sun, Moon or rising sign, the 2017-18 Scorpio Birthday Reading makes an incredible gift.
Scorpio (Oct. 23-Nov. 22) -- You may not be certain what to make of some recent news, though you might first ask yourself whether it's true. Then ask yourself whether it's meaningful and why. This will turn out to be a positive development if you keep an open mind, which you'll discover is true of most things.
"The self-esteem theme, described by the union of your 1st and 2nd houses, is the claiming back of your natural desire as a birthright. If you are in doubt about what you want, or if you consider it a potential moral affront, it’s difficult to feel good about yourself. For you, taking possession of desire is integral to your respect of yourself."
-- From your 2017 annual reading by Eric Francis, The Book of Your Life -- which you can read here. Eric's beginning work on the 2018 annual edition -- you may pre-order that here.
Sagittarius (Nov. 22-Dec. 22) -- Take whatever discovery you made or breakthrough you had and now apply it to a solid plan. Set an agenda, make a schedule and set about the task of putting your excellent ideas into some practical form. You don't need to spend much money. Borrow, repurpose or find used things.
"The overwhelming message of this series of South Node eclipses is that you must get beyond your own past, and find the present. Finding the present means sorting out your emotional reality to the point where you understand what happened, and what it means – and use it as a source of strength rather than of weakness."

Capricorn (Dec. 22-Jan. 20) -- You will have more fun if you plan less. You don't need a strategy for everything, though you're excellent at coming up with them. Especially when it comes to art, sex and other forms of potentially communal recreation, you would benefit from relaxing and letting things flow naturally.
"If you're worried about your reputation, this is merely another way of assigning power over yourself to others. You cannot control what anyone thinks, and no matter how pure, sinister, friendly, loving, raunchy, talented or slothy you might be, people will think what they want. What they might think is not your business."
-- From your 2017 annual reading by Eric Francis, The Book of Your Life -- which you can read here. Eric's beginning work on the 2018 annual edition -- you may pre-order that here.
Aquarius (Jan. 20-Feb. 19) --
You can slow down a little. You may feel like you need to rush in order to get anything done. This is an illusion, and it's a dangerous one. What you need the most now is to be focused, clear-headed and somewhat meticulous. Check your numbers twice. Verify the spelling of every name.
"It looks to me like you need to call an end to a certain line of conduct or thinking that has been in your family for a while. The opportunity you have is based on the fact that you can actually see this issue for what it is. It’s normally difficult to discern, and it’s been masked or veiled recently by its prevalence in society. Once you have it in your sights, address it on the spot."
-- From your 2017 annual reading by Eric Francis, The Book of Your Life -- which you can read here. Eric's beginning work on the 2018 annual edition -- you may pre-order that here.
Pisces (Feb. 19-March 20) -- Measure your words carefully, and make sure you err on the side of saying yes. Sidestep any urgency you feel to explain yourself, justify your actions, or to plead your cause. Rather, state your needs, state your expectations, and describe your plans -- and leave it at that. Then, follow your agenda.
"You mean a great deal to the people close to you, and though they may not say anything about it, they certainly know it. If it ever seems that people benefit from you more than you benefit from them, rejoice in that fact. You need less than they do; you are more complete in yourself than most people around you; and anyway, that self-completion is the major theme of your astrology."
