Moonshine Horoscopes -- Aries New Moon Edition

This Wednesday morning at 5:35 am EDT is the Aries New Moon. This is a conjunction of the Sun and Moon (every New Moon is), but in this case it's actually a grand conjunction involving three more planets in addition to the luminaries: the new planet Eris, Venus and Mars. This puts a lot of focus on Eris, and it means we have an opportunity to learn more about how her archetype functions in our lives.

With a five-planet New Moon, you might be feeling a building sensation of energy or pressure -- more akin to a Full Moon than a typical New Moon -- with its accompanying promise of release.
 
Aries is the sign of 'I am', and it's possible that statement -- said by you or a loved one -- is taking on a defensive, belligerent or overly assertive tone. There is a lot of wattage in Aries now, including Mars, the god of war and drive, in the sign it rules. Even Venus, the goddess of love and receptivity, takes on a more assertive tone in Aries. You may need to consciously remind yourself to receive with true empathy what others are saying and feeling.
 
If you’re noticing a sense of inner identity-chaos lately, that could be Eris talking. Eris seems to function in a centaur-like way, as described by Eric in Small World Stories, by "shaking up the known order of reality until it becomes fully conscious and we have the ability to make a decision."
 
One decision this week may involve parental relationship models versus something more individually oriented, as represented by the Sun and Moon on one side of Eris, and Venus and Mars on the other. Genevieve Hathaway explored this dynamic on Monday in her post on the Planet Waves blog.
 
You also might find yourself faced with a choice between 'toxic chaos' and 'fertile chaos'. Toxic chaos can include self-serving crazy making. Fertile chaos is more like taking a step into the unknown, where there may be no clear answers but a strong sense of potential. It inspires creativity -- and through creativity, we discover ourselves.
 
In that sense, this week is a 'proving moment' for Eris. On the world stage, Eris conjunct the Aries New Moon is a factor to watch in the North Korea situation, with its narcissistic saber rattling. On the personal level, Eris and the New Moon may influence how you perceive your sense of identity within your intimate relationships; questions of sexuality and gender (including gender roles) could feel stronger. The intense focus on self due to so much Aries can be stressful on relationships.
 
Keep your curiosity turned on, along with some introspection -- and empathy toward any partners (or potential partners). It could take a week or two for Eris' message to manifest fully. Along the way, honest questions will likely get you further than certain answers.
