Moonshine Horoscopes -- Aries New Moon Edition
Dear Friend and Reader: This Wednesday morning at 5:35 am EDT is the Aries New Moon. This is a conjunction of the Sun and Moon (every New Moon is), but in this case it's actually a grand conjunction involving three more planets in addition to the luminaries: the new planet Eris, Venus and Mars. This puts a lot of focus on Eris, and it means we have an opportunity to learn more about how her archetype functions in our lives.
With a five-planet New Moon, you might be feeling a building sensation of energy or pressure -- more akin to a Full Moon than a typical New Moon -- with its accompanying promise of release. Aries is the sign of 'I am', and it's possible that statement -- said by you or a loved one -- is taking on a defensive, belligerent or overly assertive tone. There is a lot of wattage in Aries now, including Mars, the god of war and drive, in the sign it rules. Even Venus, the goddess of love and receptivity, takes on a more assertive tone in Aries. You may need to consciously remind yourself to receive with true empathy what others are saying and feeling. If you’re noticing a sense of inner identity-chaos lately, that could be Eris talking. Eris seems to function in a centaur-like way, as described by Eric in Small World Stories, by "shaking up the known order of reality until it becomes fully conscious and we have the ability to make a decision." One decision this week may involve parental relationship models versus something more individually oriented, as represented by the Sun and Moon on one side of Eris, and Venus and Mars on the other. Genevieve Hathaway explored this dynamic on Monday in her post on the Planet Waves blog. You also might find yourself faced with a choice between 'toxic chaos' and 'fertile chaos'. Toxic chaos can include self-serving crazy making. Fertile chaos is more like taking a step into the unknown, where there may be no clear answers but a strong sense of potential. It inspires creativity -- and through creativity, we discover ourselves. In that sense, this week is a 'proving moment' for Eris. On the world stage, Eris conjunct the Aries New Moon is a factor to watch in the North Korea situation, with its narcissistic saber rattling. On the personal level, Eris and the New Moon may influence how you perceive your sense of identity within your intimate relationships; questions of sexuality and gender (including gender roles) could feel stronger. The intense focus on self due to so much Aries can be stressful on relationships. Keep your curiosity turned on, along with some introspection -- and empathy toward any partners (or potential partners). It could take a week or two for Eris' message to manifest fully. Along the way, honest questions will likely get you further than certain answers. Yours and truly, Amanda Painter These Moonshine Horoscopes are written by Genevieve Hathaway. Aries (March 20-April 19) -- Events this week may seem to be carrying you from one place to another, without your ability to control the speed of developments or even to aim for where you want to be. At a certain point you need to let go into a certain factor of the unknown. At the same time, those same events may be compelling you to 'be yourself' in some unusually bold way -- just when you're wondering if you have any idea of what you feel, much less who you are. Think of what you're going through as a doorway rather than as a transient experience. This is a 'before and after' moment, a point of no return. Yet it's not merely a spot on the map; it's more like a dimension shift, where you make peace with what you don't know about your own feelings. Then that lurking sense of the unknown will begin to provide you with some productive information. Therefore I suggest you make peace with a measure of chaos, uncertainty and mystery as aspects of your psyche come unraveled, and you see what's really there. You'll know this is happening as you start to relax about subjects and experiences that used to have you feeling uptight. -- by Genevieve Hathaway Order your 2013 reading from Eric Francis now, in LISTEN, the 2013 annual edition of Planet Waves. Taurus (April 19-May 20) -- With a Moon sign ruled by Venus, you are no stranger to a vivid imagination and you possess an astute eye for aesthetic creation. During the Aries New Moon, your imagination will expand even further, providing a rich vein of creativity and innovation from which you can draw. This astrology looks like molten lava pushing out of a volcano to shape the landscape. It’s hot, and a perfect tool for creating your vision. Yet just like a volcano, there is another undercurrent to this energy: a potentially explosive quality if the pressure is not released through expression. All this heat and inspiration needs to go somewhere and into something. I suggest carving out extra time to work on projects, especially those that excite you and spark an inner sense of passion. You have a tremendous amount of energy and resources at your disposal to produce some truly inspired work right now. -- by Genevieve Hathaway Order your 2013 reading from Eric Francis now, in LISTEN, the 2013 annual edition of Planet Waves. Gemini (May 20-June 21) -- Your astrology is indicating a push to clean house in your larger network of relationships. Think of this network as both your extended tribe and your selected community. As you examine which relationships support you and which no longer do, I suggest prudence. Proceed slowly and thoughtfully rather than with reactive, fast acting, sweeping changes. Right now the energy is intense and potentially rash -- which could result in some ill-advised severing of meaningful friendships or acquaintances. So take care over the next week or two as you decide which relationships to invest in and which to let slip out of your life. I propose you work with the idea that your network is your net worth. Money and things can be replaced, but it's the people who are absolutely unique in what you share with them. No amount of abundance can compensate for this. Here on the material plane, the real miracle is human, not stuff. It's about love, not luck. And it's just as much about what you share as what you gain. -- by Genevieve Hathaway Order your 2013 reading from Eric Francis now, in LISTEN, the 2013 annual edition of Planet Waves. Cancer (June 21-July 22) -- How does your idea of career and your parents' ideas compare? Or said another way, the 'old school' concept of success and the one that you've developed? At the moment, you are encountering a kind of barrier or split between what you thought you wanted and what you actually want in terms of the work you do and how you do it. Start with what you learned from your family, working forward to see how it influenced you -- and how you've taken steps beyond it. This will help you reorient your concept of what your career is and how you live it in real life. What you are making contact with is the approach that your career is an extension of you in a deeply personal way, and that it involves your being of service to others. How you share your creativity is through helping others. You have a regenerating well of energy to apply to the work you do. For you to continually tap this well, you need to honor this internal connection of your work and your creativity, and make tending that hearth a daily yoga. -- by Genevieve Hathaway Order your 2013 reading from Eric Francis now, in LISTEN, the 2013 annual edition of Planet Waves. Leo (July 22-Aug. 23) -- You are working with some new ideas about the masculine/feminine energy dynamic in regards to sex, particularly in terms of defined roles and expectations of who initiates and who dictates how the sexual relationship proceeds. Part of your personal philosophy is your initiative and willingness to act on your desire rather than to be a passive recipient. Those around you are drawn to your openness to stating what you want, though this may not always have been easy for you to fully embody. At times, an insecurity stemming from the counter viewpoints of partners and larger society may have gotten in the way. As the Aries New Moon takes place this week you are reorienting your approach and philosophy to your desire nature and the different facets of its energy. To gain any needed perspective, slip out and around the idea, viewing it from multiple perspectives. What you are clearing away is any residual adopted viewpoints that block you from your genuine approach to how you communicate your sexual needs and desires. -- by Genevieve Hathaway Order your 2013 reading from Eric Francis now, in LISTEN, the 2013 annual edition of Planet Waves. Virgo (Aug. 23-Sep. 22) -- A number of issues or wounds regarding relationships are now coming up for healing. You’ve spent the past month sifting through the layers of this material and now you can finally burn it off. Think of this as burning off, or letting go of, the pain. What is left behind is an open, fertile space for you to fill with love and acceptance. The wound you are addressing is the need for emotional approval from those around you. It may seem like for many lifetimes you've had to cover up who you are deep inside and what you truly need -- that is the past and you are creating your future one day at a time. Emotional approval begins with you. I suggest going to yourself for it first and generously giving yourself the approval you seek. Others will follow your lead, providing scaffolding for you to lean on when you need support. Ultimately though, you are the foundation of that support structure. -- by Genevieve Hathaway Order your 2013 reading from Eric Francis now, in LISTEN, the 2013 annual edition of Planet Waves. Libra (Sep. 22-Oct. 23) -- The high-energy Aries New Moon this week is adding a level of intensity, passion and complexity to your most personal relationships, including one you might sometimes overlook. The ruler of your Moon sign, Venus, is right in the middle of the New Moon cluster, highlighting the most important relationship in your life: the one you have with yourself. This New Moon may on one level be reminding you that every other relationship you have is an extension of the one you have with you. There are other ways to relate to people, for example, thinking they have something you don't have, which might complete you in a certain way. That creates a power imbalance. The more workable approach is to seek level ground in your most intimate encounters with others, which is exactly what the current drama is about. One way you know you're starting to do that is you have to work out the boundaries consciously, rather than accepting what you're given. -- by Genevieve Hathaway Order your 2013 reading from Eric Francis now, in LISTEN, the 2013 annual edition of Planet Waves. Scorpio (Oct. 23-Nov. 22) -- This coming month is a good time to ask the following questions: Are you emotionally healthy? What does emotional wellbeing look (or feel) like for you? I'm not talking strictly about control over your emotional state. Rather, I’m asking about that which you do on a daily, weekly and monthly basis to ground your emotions and keep your intense, passionate energy pushing out into the world in a positive, productive manner. Emotional health requires you to act clearly in accordance with your desire nature and also your emotional or feeling body. This comes with feeling, honoring and vocalizing how you feel rather than burying it deep inside you. It may take some practice to know how much emotion to express and how much to reflect on and let pass, but the one common thread is allowing yourself to feel the full range of your emotions. -- by Genevieve Hathaway Order your 2013 reading from Eric Francis now, in LISTEN, the 2013 annual edition of Planet Waves. Sagittarius (Nov. 22-Dec. 22) -- Sensual and erotic sensations are flooding your emotional realm as Venus and Mars meet up with the New Moon in the area of your chart that covers fun, playful sex. In such a passionate and bold sign as Aries, intense, erotic experimentation is on offer. Use this opportunity to try on a fantasy or three. I realize that sex is one of the most personal acts we humans engage in, and sharing a fantasy with a partner can be a very vulnerable experience. There’s something in this astrology about taking a risk for the sake of the risk rather than any guaranteed reward. As you discuss what you desire and are curious about with a partner (or with a friend or in your journal if there’s no current partner), remember the truth is erotic and so is vulnerability. Approach the topic of breaking out of your usual mold from a place of genuine desire to share the experience with that person. You have the support you need to both share what you want to try and take the step into the realm of experimentation. -- by Genevieve Hathaway Order your 2013 reading from Eric Francis now, in LISTEN, the 2013 annual edition of Planet Waves. Capricorn (Dec. 22-Jan. 20) -- As the Sun and Moon meet up in Aries this week, take note of old emotions and patterns that you’ve revisited a number of times. This New Moon is bringing you an opportunity to move forward, leaving these old patterns behind once and for all. It's as if you're busting through all the emotional habits and security issues that you learned from your family of origin. This is likely to have you wanting to live not just in a bigger fish bowl but in a much more spacious life. One question that arises is how you handle anger. This is one of the most taboo topics of our society, and it looks like it may have been an issue when you were younger, particularly anger that threatened caregivers. You may spend your life tiptoeing around issues relating to that, acting more meek and mild than you really have to be. The most significant test is how you conduct yourself in your own private space, even if you share it with others. That really needs to be the one place where you're actually free. But is it? You will probably find out soon enough. -- by Genevieve Hathaway Order your 2013 reading from Eric Francis now, in LISTEN, the 2013 annual edition of Planet Waves. Aquarius (Jan. 20-Feb. 19) -- Your astrology is pointing to a small division or hurdle in your daily structures and environment that you are working through. I propose you consider this less of a problem or blockage; instead, adopt the approach of discovering the importance of a nurturing environment and supportive routine to your creative process. A solid structure or framework is beneficial to your work process, helping you take ideas and crystalize them into being. As you reassess whether your current environment and routines are serving you, I suggest considering all types of environments you experience throughout most days -- home, work, community, the town or city where you live. Then consider how these environments are helping or hindering you in developing beneficial structures and routines. Note changes you wish to make, then apply discipline to see those changes actually stick. What you build will facilitate your creative energy storehouse remaining full. -- by Genevieve Hathaway Order your 2013 reading from Eric Francis now, in LISTEN, the 2013 annual edition of Planet Waves. Pisces (Feb. 19-March 20) -- Over the Aries New Moon, you are encountering a moment of clarity regarding many of your important personal resources. I suggest considering your internal state one of your most valuable ones. You can think of this as how you feel on a daily basis both about yourself and your life. As many high-powered planets align in Aries for the New Moon, the energy may seem particularly intense and erratic, like someone let loose a radioactive bouncy ball inside of you. Take note of how your experience of your life changes during calm inner moments and during internally intense or chaotic times. You are revisiting a topic you have touched on before -- your external world is created by your internal, emotional world. A few new ideas will present themselves on how to continually tend your emotional landscape, maintaining a grounded, balanced and emotionally nurtured state. -- by Genevieve Hathaway Order your 2013 reading from Eric Francis now, in LISTEN, the 2013 annual edition of Planet Waves.
