Spring Equinox is upon us in a few weeks. The winter, the official part, anyway, will be over and we'll arrive at what, for centuries, was the true and natural beginning of the year. As the Sun passes into Aries on March 19, the Moon is right behind it in Pisces. This offers a mixture of new and the old; of assertion and receptivity; of impetuous fire, though tempered by the sensitive nature of water. Uranus in Pisces has surely been shaking things up for a lot of people. There's an unsettled feeling about this astrology, but I would contend that the world is a little too settled for its own good. This is just the beginning.
Aries (March 20-April 19)
Your feelings seem to be a bit behind your will power, and I would propose
that's about right for the moment. It's always a good idea to pause long
enough for one's feelings to catch up with one's mind, especially for a madly
passionate one such as you are. Take that quiet space and let your soul find
your body. I suggest you do this in water, and if you're going to make one
improvement to your home this year or this season, let it be something
involving a hot tub, a bath tub, a spa or an aquarium. Well, okay, aquariums
are great, but you can't personally get in, and you need to get your body in
the actual water in the sanctity of your home, and have that watery space be
a temple of pleasure and healing. Don't forget your private stash of the
finest quality libations.
Taurus (April 19-May 20)
You have learned how good it feels to live as if you have a body, and to
feel the hunger and thirst and passion of your body. Your body is your real
home, and you of all people need to be exceptionally comfortable in your own
skin in order to feel like you belong on the planet or to notice you're
remotely safe here. From that space, you can extend two things: one is a
safe, nourishing home space for your brood. When your body and your state of
desire are strong, you may recall that you need a space where the Sun blazes
in the back door and the floors are flooded with light. The second is a more
immediate gift: you can feel the power of your ideas, and more to the point,
of expressing your ideas. Taurus is the sign of the human voice. Let freedom
ring.
Gemini (May 20-June 21)
Springtime is the your most social time of year (if you ask astrology). It
happens to have been the season when you were born. I suggest you start
planning the Gemini party now, beginning with a master list of every Twin
within 50 miles or four degrees of separation. Put everyone on the job.
Meanwhile, get ready to get yourself out of the house. I would say your
social schedule is not busy enough unless it's interfering with your work,
though you need one thing in particular: unfamiliar places and faces. Play a
little game of making sure that at least every other time you go out the
door, you're going someplace new. Visit places that are a little weird, such
as in the wrong neighborhood, or gatherings amongst artists a little too
bizarre for your tastes. Bring a pile of Gemini party invitations.
Cancer (June 21-July 22)
Cancer is first and foremost the sign of the home. It's also associated with
mother, with security, and with cycles, suggesting that feeling grounded on
the Earth is a cyclical process. Where you stand in that process is a place
of wild expansion and of learning that the biggest, widest conception of
global reality is your home. Get yourself out there. Forget about the local
public transportation system. Dust off your passport. If you don't have one,
dig out your certified birth certificate, go to the local copy center and
get a passport photo taken, fill in the form, write the check and put the
thing in the mail. Take what you need to make your life on the road cozy and
just so, and stick out your thumb on Travelocity. I can't tell you what
you'll find out there, but I'm guessing you're gonna like it a lot.
Leo (July 22-Aug. 23)
Home is where your love is. Home is also where your highest, most idealistic
dream of love is. This is not necessarily an easy life, the devotion to
building a dream, because dreams and reality often don't reconcile. But more
often people of this world fail to take their own ideals seriously enough to
dare. There is often that sense of needing to hold back a part of oneself,
or to resist the desire of another person not to hold back that part of who
they are when it's offered directly to us. Both are right within reach right
now, or at least right within range of your psychic radar. They're calling
you. Remember that to get anywhere, you have to travel across the ground.
And when you're moving along the ground, you have to keep at least one foot
on the path or all four tires on the highway. Easy does it. Your dreams
await you patiently.
Virgo (Aug. 23-Sep. 22)
These years -- many years -- have come with a mammoth struggle for security.
This is not so much a quest for the brick roof as much as it is for a living
sense of being in the house of your own soul. Often (or is it always) that
house is built on the debris of history, and that is a strange substance.
It's made of the ideas of long-dead relatives, and the shattered ideals of
people who tried, sincerely as you, to make a life for themselves. Their
failures must be an inspiration rather than a foreboding. You can clearly
take them either way, and you may be inclined to heed the warnings of the
past. If the past is warning you of anything, it's simply to learn from your
own mistakes, and to remember who you are. This is a year of making unusual
connections, which is another way to say expanding your world in
unpredictable and even risky ways. To the extent that your forebears did not
or could not dare, you surely must.
Libra (Sep. 22-Oct. 23)
You have either endured a trial in a relationship or met someone who is a
kind of comparable equal, perhaps both. Now that you've endured this rather
full-strength experience, the real fun begins, provided you don't get too
carried away with words or with the importance of your views. In particular,
you run the risk of using a combative posture as a cover-up for your deeply
sensitive emotional state. Mixing the two unconsciously could make a messy
combination of forces. The point is, these days you likely feel like you're
sacrificing yourself either for the sake of a child or for the sake of an ideal.
You're not going to fight your way out of that one. You can only make a
conscious choice to claim a certain aspect of your life for yourself, or
submit to an unacceptable situation. Given that the second possibility is
unlikely, you might want to consider a plan for the first.
Scorpio (Oct. 23-Nov. 22)
Empathy is what makes relationships work, when they work. It's also what
makes them work when they don't. You've had an unusual opportunity to make
contact with the feelings of another person, and seem set to move on to your
own endeavors. But if you prioritize business affairs above your personal
affairs, you're likely to leave someone feeling rather left out. This would
be ill advised primarily because you're actually in a position in life where
an unusual depth of fulfillment is possible. Someone is offering you a rare
level of contact and a rather accommodating degree of tolerance. I don't
suggest you take this for granted, no matter how appealing other prospects
may seem. A balance is really possible, if you'll take the time to find it.
Sagittarius (Nov. 22 - Dec. 22)
To get home, we have to leave the place that's not home. Much as prisoners
come to love their cells and the culture of their institution (this, owing
to the awesome power of the human nesting instinct), we can adapt quite well
to the place we don't belong. Your instincts are leading you somewhere. You
owe it to yourself to listen, and to respond. But I would add one caution:
it's not your role to lead anyone else anywhere, or to guide people to
another place for some kind of supposed community interest. You must follow
your own intuition about what is necessary for you and you alone. When you
reach wherever it is you need to be, the right people will gather around
you, and you will very naturally find your role.
Capricorn (Dec. 22-Jan. 20)
You like to be the boss of your home environment, and that's pretty much a
sure thing at the moment. As the next few weeks progress, though, beware of
heading into battle mode over a creative clash at work. Such a struggle is
likely to be a perfect waste of time. If you can do your job without
engaging in debates or disagreements, you'll find you have a lot more energy
and a lot less needless consternation in your life. The thing is, that may
not be so easy, since certain individuals who don't understand what it means
to leave others in peace are likely to presume that you're ready to go to
the mats, and may act in ways that are more provocative than usual. If you can
set things up so that you work at home for a while, you'll likely duck out
of the intrigue. Remember that to duck does not make you a chicken.
Aquarius (Jan. 20-Feb. 19)
There is an element of political awareness that your current living
arrangements are calling for, and you may notice it seems like a big lesson
of some kind. It's not that politics is the supreme mode of interaction and
it's not that it's beneath you; it's just that you don't understand why
people have to make such simple things into such complex games. Not everyone
in this world comes equipped with the logical and magnanimous mind of an
Aquarian. But look at it this way. You have the ability to work things out,
and I could offer you all the usual metaphors of carrots versus sticks and
honey versus vinegar, though that won't keep you tempered. Basically, you
just need to charm people for their own good. It won't take much.
Pisces (Feb. 19-March 20)
I wonder how you're doing in your quest for independence. At once you may
feel like you're pushing things too far, and that the world is getting away
from you. Neither are true. Advance in this life is rarely a linear process,
that is, a line from point A to point Z. A process is involved and that
process involves breakthroughs and, as you've seen at an assortment of times
in the past, setbacks. In any event, this is a time to keep moving, and to
move with determination. I speak both of your ideas and of your physical
location. It will help that, for some time, no particular place will feel
like home, but that's ultimately going to serve you by advancing you toward
your destination. You don't always get to be so restless. I suggest you take
the opportunity, because it's a good one.
