That page also includes three samples of the readings.

OVER THE NEXT 48 HOURS, we get to experience some spectacular astrology across the Aries-Libra axis. By axis, I mean that the polarity that spans from Aries to Libra is involved, the opposition of signs that covers the topics ‘I Am’ to ‘We Are’ and back again. When you consider how much of existence consists of exploring I and we, it’s easy to see that these are two signs that can sum up most of human experience.

I’ve provided several different visual views of this polarity in the charts mingled with this article. There are two primary events and many smaller ones in the mix. The primary events are Mercury in Aries joining the cardinal grand cross aspect, which aligns exactly on Monday.

Then on Tuesday, there is a total eclipse of the Moon in Libra, which happens at the Libra Full Moon. Eclipses are mighty events, moments when we mark the time of our lives on the longest measure. They are points of no return, when events accelerate and often seem fated. They can represent developments that involve many people, and that reach across any kind of boundary. There is almost always some experience of ‘the unexpected’, which somehow turns out to be obvious in hindsight.

Together these events describe revelation and awakening, one that can sweep you up in its current, with a few shocking tones of brilliance mixed in. Though they represent something immensely influential, you can also think of these events as gradual increases in the vibration as we approach the next major pair of events, Mars aligning with the grand cross on April 23, followed by an eclipse of the Sun on April 29.

A lot of Aries — with Mercury conjunct Uranus.

Mercury is now in Aries and Monday it makes both a conjunction to Uranus and a square to Pluto. You can see that in the diagram to the left; the blue “H” is Uranus and the green guy with horns right below it is Mercury. They have the same degree location (13 degrees, and 11 arc minutes); that is a conjunction, which acts like a fusion of the two planets into one thought or idea.

This happens in Aries, the sign of self. The conjunction to Uranus in Aries is outgoing; the square to Pluto in Capricorn (not shown in this diagram) is deeply introspective. These two modes of existence require balance and careful alchemy, but they don’t contradict one another. They are elements of one another.

When a fast-moving inner planet such as Mercury aligns with majestic, world-changing slow-movers like Uranus and Pluto (well, there’s quite nothing like Uranus and Pluto, but you get the idea), it brings to the forefront of awareness what was previously in the background — perhaps what has been lingering in the background for many years. That is how consciousness often works; something is right there, and then some factor brings it to the front, where you can see it clearly and relate it to the rest of your experience.

That’s exactly what Mercury is doing right now. When it makes a conjunction to Uranus, it also makes a square to Pluto (touching the Uranus-Pluto square in one gesture) and also a square to Jupiter. Mercury is the planet of awareness and ideas, and it’s being infused with the inventive, penetrating energy of the slower planets.

When the fast planet shows up among the slow ones, it can reveal or make conscious what was always there, then suddenly it’s obvious to see. In my happiest interpretation of this alignment, we get a sense of urgency mingled with wisdom that leads to a stunning, inventive burst of self-awareness. There is that necessary step of recognizing that in being yourself, you are alone as such; then you can come to full consciousness and offer yourself to shared experience with other individuals or groups of individuated people.

There is a cautionary note in Aries, with a conjunction of Eris, Juno and the Sun still close at hand: the caution is about how selfish humans can be, and how self-centered we are conditioned to be. We are all aware of the tendency to exploit relationships and give as little back as possible, however the roles get assigned or chosen. Self-centered is not the same thing as self-aware. Selfish is not the same thing as self-aware. Withholding oneself is different from offering oneself.

A lot of Libra, with the Moon about eight hours ahead of Tuesday’s lunar eclipse.

At the same moment on the other side of the sky, Libra is emphasized by the position of the Moon. The Moon is the gray crescent, second planet from the bottom on the diagram immediately to the right. The Moon represents our investment in the We Are factor, which is complex and often challenging. Often it is merely about maintaining appearances or covering over insecurity. The less self-aware one is, the more challenging it can be, though self-awareness can come with the experience of filtering out people who are less self-aware, who lose themselves in relationships or who are not able to balance out the self-other dance in a creative way.

The Moon makes a conjunction to the local ascendant (that is the AC, here in Kingston; so it’s rising in this chart though it’s not displayed in the rising position in this diagram); then the Moon makes a conjunction to Vesta (purple chevron, which represents core creative fire, service, devotion, sexual healing) and finally a conjunction to Ceres (the purple thing that looks like a question mark, which represents deep emotions, mother-daughter situations, and the most wide-reaching dimension of goddess energy in the astrological palette).

That is worth a moment of thought. Mercury is becoming aware of something, and we might ask what that is; some information comes from over in Libra, where the Moon first conjoins the fire goddess Vesta, who selflessly offers herself in the service of humanity; and then the earth goddess Ceres, the divine mother who presides over the seasons, the concepts of balance and equilibrium, the nourishment content of emotions or the lack thereof; and the grief that is implicit in the human experience of love, loss and reconciliation. When we think of goddess in the form of Earth Goddess, Gaia, or the Planetary Mother, Ceres is the closest approximation we have to that — and as a symbolic representative she is very close to the core idea.

<img loading="lazy" class="size-full wp-image-75692" alt="Focus on the Aries-Libra axis of Tuesday's total lunar eclipse, which is in Libra. The Moon is the gray crescent to the upper right; the Sun is the yellow circle with the dot in the middle, on the lower left.

There is an implied message here. Vesta describes a cleansing or ‘purification’ process; the experience of giving up what you’re not devoted to, to make room for that which you’re entirely devoted to. That is the basic sequence of Moon-Vesta, Moon-Ceres.

The total lunar eclipse in Venus-ruled Libra happens exactly conjunct Ceres. There is a message here that our concept of ‘goddess’ needs to be more complex than lover/sex partner/mom. The eclipse pulls back a veil on what that something might be, or might necessitate — contact with the Earth itself. There’s a lot in here about how the solar nature and the lunar/earthy nature must be balanced, and there’s a lot in here about how this is all, as in all, about our relationships to ourselves and to others.

We might think about planetary healing as stopping Monsanto or ending wars or McDonald’s going away. That would start with you, personally, eating food that is healthy for your body. It would start with you recognizing the connection between what you eat and how you feel. It would start with how you treat yourself and by extension, how you treat others.

It is, however, nearly impossible to relate these things as concepts in any meaningful way; the best way to teach is by embodying the ideas and then conveying them by example. Another excellent way to embody and convey them is by making decisions.

<img loading="lazy" class="size-full wp-image-75689" alt="Eclipse of the Moon in Libra on April 15, 2014. Notice how the planets are arranged in a kind of barbell — follow all those purple lines in the middle of the chart. Toward the bottom is Aries and toward the top is Libra. So this eclipse is a rather impressive study in polarity.

All of this leads to a total eclipse of the Moon across the Aries-Libra axis. That is shown in detail on the chart above and in full-picture format on the chart to the right.

You might describe this as the ‘full activation’ of the Aries-Libra axis, the one about I Am and We Are. The eclipse is the part of this story that doesn’t care whether someone is paying attention. The eclipse will have its influence, and reach everyone on the vibration level where their awareness is located.

To those who are on a dense or more resistant vibration, the eclipse might feel like something being imposed on them.

To those who are taking initiative or who are flexible, it might feel like an opportunity to make adjustments or to make decisions, or like their life is suddenly aligning with their feeling of what is fated or destined.

I am not saying destiny is involved, or that someone else is making decisions — I am describing one potential manifestation of the feeling of these events. Eclipses can also feel like an acceleration of experience, a release point, and the tangible, immediate sensation of a new era of one’s life beginning.

An eclipse of the Moon is a kind of reset, and when the Moon seems to disappear, what is behind it, what comes through in this particular event, is the goddess Ceres. Yet when I say this, I am not talking about anything outside yourself. I am talking about an honest relationship to yourself, to your feelings, to your body and the planet you live on. To me the veil coming back and ‘Ceres’ consciousness being revealed sums up the message of Tuesday’s eclipse, which is saying that if you’re looking for something in your contact with others, then go deeper. That might seem obvious, and it might take some courage; it will be worth it, because that missing thing is indeed deeper than you usually go.

To be continued tomorrow — tune into Planet Waves FM.
