The Cosmic Serpent in Mayan mythology, Kulkulkan, or Kucumatz, inhabited the silence before creation. He is the Heart of Heaven, Mother\/Father of Everything. He lives in water, the primal ocean. Kucumatz was present at the creation of the Universe along with other gods, whose origins are not explained. <\/p>\n

\"OLYMPUS<\/a><\/p>\n

The first thing to manifest in the Universe was trees. Kucumatz manifested himself as a tripartite being, Huracan, named for three types of lightning. After the Earth, birds and animals were formed, the gods set about to create humans. There were a few failed attempts, but the Lords of the Underworld had to be defeated first.<\/p>\n

Today, Feb. 19, 2014, is 13 Serpent. This is the last day of a trecena (13 days) that began on 1 Reed, Feb. 6. One Reed is associated with Hernan Cortes’ landing in Aztlan (present-day Mexico); he was mistaken for Quetzalcoaltl (the Aztec name for Kulkulkan). Quetzalcoatl was a god who incarnated as a man, and was an early mythical Toltec ruler who was supposed to return on a raft from the East as prophesied by Aztec sun-priests. 13 Serpent is the tzolkin glyph on the birth dates of G.W. Bush (7\/6\/46) and Osama Bin Laden (3\/10\/57).<\/p>\n

There is a thread of history running through the energetic signatures of these two days. Like bookends of a 500-year cycle, 1 Reed signaled the entrance of the invaders to 13 Serpent, the energy of an outdated war posture running out of places to invade.<\/p>\n

13 Serpent energy could be used positively for kundalini exercises and healing nerves. I pray we get some cosmic Reiki attunement, not any more petty dictators. If your life has felt like you were going up the Nung river about 75 clicks past the Do Han bridge to meet your inner Col. Kurtz (of Apocalypse Now!<\/em> fame), just breathe easy and know it’s part of the healing process.<\/p>\n

In the Popol Vuh, the creation myth stories of the Maya, Hun Came (pronounced Ka-may), 1 Death, was the Lord of the Underworld. He didn’t like the noise of the ball game above him played by the First Fathers, Hun Hunapu and Wukub Hunapu, so he sent an owl to summon them and subject them to terrifying ordeals. Hun Hunapu’s head ends up as a calabash on a tree and he impregnates Hun Came’s daughter with his spittle. She just couldn’t resist the fruit of the tree her dad told everyone not to touch!<\/p>\n

Hun Came is defeated by his grandsons Hun Ajpu and Xbalamque, who just happen to be Hun Hunapu’s grandsons, too. They were prepared to face the tests the Underworld Lords had put their father through and trick Hun Came to let them cut him up thinking they would bring him back to life.<\/p>\n

The moral to the story will be apparent after we go through the Underworld Journey from February 20, 2014, to March 5, 2014, Thirteen Tijax, flint\/mirror. <\/p>\n
