Granted, every time the Sun changes sign, it’s a different space, usually perceived with refreshment. This time, as indicated by the synchronicity of astrology and events, the space where change itself takes place will be enlarged to an entirely new sense of scale and purpose.

It has to do with a spacecraft, three planets, one hypothetical point, a fixed star, our galaxy and you. Or more properly, you and every being under the Sun.

The spacecraft is Voyager 1, launched during solar Virgo of 1977 onto a grand tour of the outer solar system. Nearly 36 years later, it is still sending data back to Earth.

Depending on the model used to interpret that information, Voyager 1 has either entered a new space, that of the stars outside the solar system, or is about to.

As scientists wrangle over interpreting telemetry from Voyager 1, many astrologers are beginning to think you and the rest of us also have a choice to cross some sort of boundary into a new space. Ironically, the fact that most of us are deeply conditioned not to cross boundaries is providing the best evidence through the pervasive tension you feel as a continuous background.

For the most part, the continuous background tension is exemplified by the aspect that distinguishes our time and your life as much or more than any other. Actually, it’s not an aspect so much as a continuum of cardinal square aspects from Uranus in Aries garb to Pluto and its Capricorn costume.

Just before Thursday’s solar ingress to Virgo, Jupiter will have cruised Cancer to its first cardinal square with Uranus and opposition to Pluto since the continuum of Uranus-Pluto squares got underway. That is functioning even now to amplify your direct contact with the background tension while also magnifying the opportunities that have appeared while you were making other plans over the past few years.

By that token, it’s the direct contacts the Sun will make upon entry to Virgo that will symbolically cinch the liminal nature of where you are and what you are doing, providing you with the perspective you need to make the best choices for both you and the greater good. That’s because, once into the first degree of mutable earth, the Sun’s first aspects will be conjunctions to a fixed star (Regulus) and a hypothetical object, Transpluto (alternatively called Isis-Transpluto).

Isis-Transpluto was originally hypothesized by astronomers to account for perceived vagaries in the orbits of Uranus and Neptune. Turns out it was the perceptions that were aberrant, not the planets, which placed the use of Isis-Transpluto into a very different space — the creative space of astrology.

Transpluto’s calculated orbit had it entering Leo in the late 1930s (exactly when depends on the ephemeris you use). It has been retrograding back and forth between Leo and Virgo since 2011. Nearly a year ago, at the beginning of its second alternation, Eric wrote that, “Transpluto is a caution against narrow thinking and self-criticism.”

Until Transpluto finally settles into its new Virgo space for the long run next July, it will be important to remember Eric’s caution by being more compassionate towards yourself and others. Consider the possibility that the oscillations we are going through both separately and in collective are not aberrations in fact, but only in perception.

That’s how the best favor we can do for ourselves and each other is to drop the criticism and allow both self and others to separately and collectively negotiate and re-negotiate boundaries into what appears to be a new space. Not only a new space in our individual lives, but also in our individual and collective evolution. That’s where Regulus comes in.

Regulus is a fixed star, about 79 light years away. Its apparent motion through the tropical zodiac is very slow and derived from the processional wobble of the Earth’s axis. It’s the same phenomenon that eventually changes which star is the North Star, as the axis of the Earth’s rotation gradually changes where it points as part of a cycle that returns to any given point every 26 thousand years or so.

Like Transpluto, Regulus is also new to Virgo, but even more recent — just since last year. As representative of its evolutionary correlation, however, it took Regulus a much longer time getting there. It’s been something like two thousand years since Regulus entered Leo, which corresponds in many ways with the beginning of our modern era. Beyond that, there is at least one other correspondence, awareness of which will be enough for you to perceive yourself (and the world) in a very different space as solar Virgo repeats its annual initiation.

What the Sun, Transpluto and Regulus have in common besides an impending Virgo conjunction is that they are part of our galaxy. Considering the Sun’s entry to Virgo from the galactic scale sets up some very interesting perceptions of proportion that (like the Uranus-Pluto cardinal square) are unique to our space and time. The light now reaching us from Regulus started its long journey the last time Transpluto went through the back-and-forth process of changing signs, nearly 80 solar cycles ago — about as long as most people live.

As already mentioned, Regulus appears to take about as long to change signs as most cultures and civilizations can be expected to function. Even more interesting is the fact that various forms of electromagnetic radiation now reaching us from the core of our galaxy were emanated about 26 thousand years ago, when Regulus last appeared to enter tropical Virgo.

Electromagnetic energy is how our solar consciousness receives information, whether it be from Voyager 1, from the Sun or a star, or from the center of our local collection of stars. The information we are receiving is of a bunch of cycles coming together, making your time a time of transition to a different space for more than just Voyager 1, you, or the culture of which you are a part. Indeed, indications are that you have the chance to be part of something bigger than you have been conditioned to perceive.

It’s the Sun, Transpluto and Regulus repeatedly coming together in the first degree of Virgo over a period of years that are precisely concurrent with the continuum of Uranus-Pluto squares. It’s Jupiter in square to both Uranus and Pluto this year to make sure you notice. It’s the Sun, Transpluto and Regulus beginning a new cycle between the three of them, in close synchrony with individual and collective cycles of all lengths of time, of both Earth and cosmos, also starting anew together. It is to indicate that it is not only Voyager 1 entering new space right now.

Of course, when it comes to the indications of astrology, it is for you to be the crucial final step. The cycles of the cosmos proceed only to repeat over and over, neither causing nor effecting in their continuous pursuit of equilibrium. Cause and effect is our own special role to play in the universe, both individually and collectively.

Thus, if one were to speculate what the Sun’s entry to Virgo might mean this year, you could do far worse than consider it a chance to make your life the new space where you can evolve to consciously co-create the direction of not only your life, but all life, and the universe itself.
