Give and take is a pervasive principle of your existence. From the very matter of which you are made, all the way to that which matters most for you, meaning is derived from exchange and reciprocation. This week Venus (surging across earthy Virgo) and Mars (cruising watery Cancer), are symbolically demonstrating that principle through their orientation to each other and the rest of the zodiac.<\/p>\n

It begins with the nature of Venus and Mars as used in astrology. When you see, feel or embody the active or energetic, that’s Mars present and accounted for, working in your life.<\/p>\n

Conversely, Venus is the receptive and attractive. When you are drawn to people, things or circumstances through through no action on their part, or when they are drawn to you, though your role be passive, that’s Venus in your pocket.<\/p>\n

It is only through their give and take that the nature of Venus and Mars become evident in astrology. One archetype without the other is as meaningless and inconceivable as one side of a coin without the other.<\/p>\n

Right now, Venus and Mars are in a functional, albeit developing,\u00a0sextile, one of at least five other concurrent, spatially sequential\u00a0sextiles constituting this week’s grand sextile daisy chain around the zodiac. The specific aspect between Venus and Mars will perfect on Friday when they are 60 degrees apart. In the meantime, the intrinsic collaboration between Venus and Mars is both lending to and deriving from the symbolism of the grand configuration.<\/p>\n

\nIn the words of Robert Hand, sextiles represent “a time of balance” in the relationship between the\u00a0participating objects and\/or points (and what they symbolize). That’s give and take if anything is. Since our present grand sextile consists of at least six functional sextiles in an unbroken circle, the indicated interpretation is one of universal give and take, and an imperative to participate in kind if you want to be on the bus. \u00a0<\/p>\n

Assuming that interpretation applies, you might consider Venus and Mars to be the drivers of the bus for a handful of reasons. First, they are in a participating sextile themselves. Also, their symbolic symbiosis is very nearly synonymous with what a sextile represents. Additionally, the two planets are placed to represent the two elements (earth and water) underlying the grand constituency. Finally, because Venus and Mars are moving faster than all the other grand sextile participants (except the Moon), it will be their separation that ultimately takes the grand sextile away from us for the time being — but not before they give us the basis for the next big chapter in the unfolding astrology of 2013.\u00a0<\/p>\n

When the sextile from Venus to Mars is exact to the degree on Friday, the point of balance between them is where the Leo New Moon will take place a week from today. In addition to beginning a new lunar cycle, that New Moon will very possibly initiate an new era of give and take on a fundamental level of human existence where things have been very out of balance for a very long time; but that’s getting ahead of ourselves.<\/p>\n

For now, position yourself to catch the bus by being conscious of where your giving and taking can not only make a difference, but also set an example for others. For now, think of it as getting back in touch with where you come from and what you are part of. For just as is the case with Venus and Mars, give and take is the source of meaning that comes through the source of all meaningful things: relationship.<\/p>\n
