It’s good timing. With ingress to cardinal earth, Venus will symbolically add its energy to the subject of work, an area of emphasis for astrology in general right now. That’s because Venus will be included among the significant number of major, sign-ruling planets under the dominion of Saturn, which, in turn, corresponds to work in your life.

Saturn, in the words of Robert Hand, “represents the way you see and experience the universe as you have structured it.” The structure of your life is probably determined largely by how you support yourself. Hence, the ringed one’s correspondence to work.

Saturn rules Capricorn, where tonight Venus will join the Sun, Mercury and Pluto (and the asteroid Juno, though Juno does not rule a sign). Saturn is also the traditional ruler of Aquarius, current residence of Mars. Additionally, on Thursday the Moon will enter Capricorn, not leaving Aquarius until Monday. Just for fun, let us go around the zodiac (beginning with Aries) and audit Saturn’s influence this week.

Aries is ruled by Mars, Taurus by Venus, Gemini by Mercury, Cancer by the Moon, Leo by the Sun, Virgo by Mercury, Libra by Venus, Scorpio by Pluto (or Mars), Sagittarius by Jupiter (currently retrograde in Gemini), Capricorn and Aquarius by Saturn (Uranus is modern co-ruler of Aquarius) and finally Pisces, where Jupiter ruled before the discovery of Neptune. In other words, the planetary lord of the rings, either directly or by proxy, really does rule them all for the near future. It makes Monsanto look like small potatoes. Fortunately, unlike Monsanto or Sauron, the true nature of Saturn is not as malicious as its reputation.

Centuries ago, astrologers divided planets up into the benefic (who brought treats) and malefic (who brought tasks). That’s where Saturn’s reputation comes from — it was classified among the task masters. Back then, astrology was not informed by the idea that responsibility for our condition is, as Shakespeare put it, “not in our stars, but in ourselves.”

That’s how Robert Hand’s interpretation of Saturn in your life comes down to how “you have structured it,” which is good news. It is good news because it means that you have control to the extent that you take responsibility for the work that you do, and its consequences in your life. That’s where Venus comes in, starting tonight.

When Venus (considered by the ancients to be a benefic) enters Capricorn, it will bring its emblematic receptivity and functional principle of attraction to Saturn’s table. That should enhance a consciousness that your work, and the structure it brings to your life goes beyond a means of support. Venus’ entry to Capricorn should correspond to a greater awareness of what all of your work does to and for you, and others as well. Awareness is big stuff, it is the source of appreciation. It begins with appreciating yourself.

Appreciating yourself begins with acknowledging your existence. You can do that by seeing work to be done and doing it. It could be as simple as picking some litter up off the street and disposing of it properly. You work, therefore you are. Once you get that connection, work is no longer a drudgery, but a privilege, even a joy.

The Venus-enhanced level of awareness, brought about by showing yourself what you can do above and beyond what you have to do, makes you want to take responsibility for more than just completing tasks to satisfy somebody else in exchange for a few pieces of fake silver. Aspiring to that sort of responsibility is what being in Saturn’s dominion is really all about. It’s beyond malefic and benefic. You find the tasks, and you bring the treats.

In the days to come, the sky is symbolically opening up. The major, sign-ruling planets are aligning meaningfully to open appreciation, awareness and the responsibility of Saturn’s dominion to all of us together, at the same time. Please don’t feel like you have to save the world all at once. Start small.

Find the one small thing nobody else is doing, do it, and feel good about it. Then, imagine everybody in the world doing something small, and appreciating themselves, all on the same day. Finally, imagine not only living in appreciation of what you are doing, but everybody living in the awareness of what everybody else was doing for today. Imagine the possibilities. We are so very close to actually making that happen. Please do your part to make the sky open up this week, just to see what will happen. You never know, your timing could be just as good as that of Venus.

Offered In Service

Len is available for astrology readings.
