His mane of hair and radiant presence gave away his Leo Sun, but he was really Mr. Jupiter: expansive, embracing, inclusive and totally connected to cosmic truth (Jupiter rules Sagittarius, home of the center of our galaxy). Fittingly, we have an exact sextile between the Leo Sun and Jupiter in Gemini today, an upbeat aspect giving a little relief from some of the vexations the sky has been tossing our way (the current Mercury retrograde, in its last week, chief among them).

Simplified chart section showing the Leo Sun sextile Jupiter in Gemini (orange ‘4’) a few hours after the Sun opposes the Aquarius Moon (not shown). Venus (blue ‘female’ symbol) is about one degree from an exact opposition to the Galactic Center, but it’s in effect now. Also shown is retrograde Mercury in Leo (green glyph with horns), creeping toward its station direct next week.

As of this posting, we’re still in the light of the Aquarius Full Moon that just passed. Full Moons can feel positively charged or exhaustingly polarized (or a little of both). But this one also creates a fantastic opportunity for practical application of humanitarian thought. By nature, Aquarius is logical and forward thinking, ultimately concerned with what’s good for all.

The fun part of having the Sun sextile Jupiter (and therefore the Moon also briefly trine Jupiter) within the orb of this Full Moon is that Jupiter kind of opens the door wide to let the energy through. True, with aspects like sextiles and trines it helps to consciously use that energy. These aspects don’t push the issue (or you) the way squares and oppositions do. But Sun-Jupiter and Moon-Jupiter bode well for health, success and luck, and come with a sense of harmony. Just lean forward into it.

Also, you now get to really expand out with whatever humanitarian / organizing / getting involved ideas came up for you with the Full Moon — assuming the pull between the two luminaries hasn’t left you feeling spent. Those ideas may contrast noticeably with all the inner reflection and navel gazing inherent to this high-stakes astrological season with its many inner planet retrogrades. You may be thinking, “Oh, I know who I am now, I just don’t know what to do with her.”

Yet one of the best ways to test what we really know about ourselves is to shift away from inner reflection and instead practice the theory in relationship to others. Participating in work, families, neighborhoods and overall culture is necessary for survival. There lies our capacity to understand individual, integral purpose in balance to all others’. It’s Brotherhood, in a word (or Sisterhood — you get the idea).

Aquarius delivers a dispassionate energy that can inject rationality into our perceptions of others, whether globally or closer to home. We begin to see a connection between our personal destiny and that of the larger family, work team or culture.

It might take the form of giving pause when feeling angry with another person (Full Moons can up the emotional ante), maybe taking a moment to consider their role and purpose in the bigger scheme of things. After all, we’re all here, at the very least, to survive together.

Or sometimes, it’s taking responsibility for the carrying out of our individual purpose for the betterment of the group. So many artists, writers and musicians are afraid to live out their purpose. Yet, we’re all waiting and needing for them to do that thing. We really are.

And from the soul-feeding beauty of art and music and writing it’s a short hop to sex. Or rather, to erotic creative energy as a cosmic calling. That is, Venus in Gemini is opposite the Galactic Center, exact Friday. It’s earthly Venus being called home to Galactic Venus. Or, to relate it to this week’s podcast, tantra as cosmology. Between the GC talking to Venus and Jupiter talking to the Sun and Moon, the message is clear: feel for that higher vibration, step back (or up) and get a wider view, give outwardly in the world and allow yourself to receive inwardly.

It’s a keen respite to understand we’re all indispensible and therefore, necessary. No one has to know it all. No one has to be it all. All we are is all of us. Lean forward into that and see what comes to meet you.

Yesterday would have been Jerry Garcia’s 70th birthday.
