The days following this week\u2019s grand cross (Uranus, Pluto, Mars and the Moon making right angles to each other from the early cardinal signs), which held a lot of pressure and potential for outburst, have witnessed violent and very troubling world events. It\u2019s a reminder that astrology unfolds gradually at some times, suddenly at others. On a personal level, you may have taken the time between the grand cross and yesterday\u2019s New Moon in Cancer to pull in a little in preparation for the Moon\u2019s new cycle and the Sun\u2019s shift into Leo. <\/p>\n

That solar event occurs Sunday just past 6:00 am EDT. Between now and then, we have a window of time in which it may pay be open to the unexpected, even if you\u2019re feeling a little raw still.<\/p>\n

Right now, the Sun is in its next-to-last degree of Cancer. At 4:53 am EDT tomorrow, it will enter the last degree of this sign. This degree in any sign is called \u2018anaretic\u2019, and it is a point that can often come with a sense of urgency or restlessness when the Sun is there. As in, oh, come on let\u2019s just get to the next sign already! It can serve you well, however, to stay present and not jump ahead. <\/p>\n

The Sun in the last degree is often \u2018void of course\u2019, meaning it will not make any major aspects to major planets before ingressing the next sign. This is the case with the Sun in this last degree of Cancer. <\/p>\n

Eric has written about the Sun VOC in the last degree of a sign that, \u201cThese are often unusual phases, brief though they may be, where the unlikely seems to have a higher rating in the probability field. With care, they can be used creatively and reasonably safely. It\u2019s one of those times to work from an idea or to let things play out as they will; but either way, to move delicately, as if under water.\u201d<\/p>\n

That last bit is especially perfect if you\u2019ve been following the crab metaphor of recent posts. Yet it may feel like a curious dilemma if you had been champing at the bit to move forward with projects now that the Moon is newly waxing. However, moving delicately, working from an idea or letting things play out are not the same as stasis. It\u2019s more like acting with an extra level of deliberateness while still remaining completely open to serendipity. Kind of like how if you\u2019re driving too fast down the highway you may not be able to stop in time to investigate something intriguing or avoid something dangerous. If you travel at the speed limit you can make sudden adjustments and follow the suggestions of your intuition.<\/p>\n

Speaking of intuition, the Sabian symbol (as interpreted by Dane Rudhyar in An Astrological Mandala) for the last degree of Cancer is, \u201cA Greek muse weighing newborn twins in golden scales.\u201d It carries the keynote, \u201cthe intuitive weighing of alternatives.\u201d<\/p>\n

The symbol suggests that here, at the end of the Cancer cycle, something deeper than normal consciousness is considering the alternatives. Just like in the highway metaphor, keeping processes in motion as you make your decision will be beneficial as long as you\u2019ve slowed your mind down just enough to hear and heed your Muse.
