This is/was at 6:41 am EDT in the sign Pisces. There’s some tension in this chart, in part as a result of two planets in the mix. Today’s last quarter is really a grand cross chart — Pisces Moon, Gemini Sun, Virgo Mars and centaur planet Pholus in Sagittarius. The way this looks is like four planets arranged in a perfect X, through the mutable signs.

<img loading="lazy" class="size-full wp-image-58034 " title="Master oak tree in Dutchess County, NY, photographed during Elisa Novick's workshop Tree Play: The Heart of the Forest. Photo by Eric.

The Moon is the fastest mover in the configuration, so the pattern will not last for long — except that the Pisces Moon is impressionable and can take some time for a little jolt like that to wear off. You may be feeling some anxiety with this mix, or you may have woken up feeling a bit agitated and not knowing why. It may be ‘just the astrology’, or there may be something bothering you.

However, with the Pisces Moon involved, take it slow figuring out what it is. With Pholus involved, I suggest you scan back over the weekend and see if anything happened with the involvement of alcohol that may require some debriefing. Alcohol is often an overlooked factor in the very situations where it’s a central influence. Use your curiosity and look beneath the surface.

Meanwhile, even the most challenging squares can also be motivating. In the case of a Pisces Moon that could be creatively motivating, with Mars and Pholus igniting an idea and lighting up the water like sunrise. Still there is counsel to take it slow on all fronts today, and savor the experience of being creatively squeezed by one thing hot (Mars, in Virgo) and one thing that emits momentum — Pholus.

Move consciously as you can. Even if you’re feeling great, people around you may be feeling temperamental. The Moon is far from the Earth and will move just over 12 degrees today, so that’s considered slow progress — says William Lilly, the equivalent of Moon retrograde.

Once the Moon completes its last quarter aspect, it will be what astrologers usually call void of course until it ingresses Aries at 12:21 am EDT Tuesday. A void Moon (meaning that the Moon makes no more aspects to other planets before changing signs) suggests drifting today. Meditate on your plans till the Moon is in the new sign. You will save time, energy and the need to do things twice — when it looks like doing whatever once well will feel great.

There’s also some tension in the air from Jupiter, the biggest, fattest planet with the most moons (and notably, denser than Saturn), which is on the verge of birthing herself from from Taurus to Gemini. Jupiter is currently moving swiftly across the last degree of Taurus, where it will be till it moves into Gemini at 1:22 pm EDT. The last time Jupiter entered Gemini was June 30, 2000. That was just after the Jupiter-Saturn conjunction in late Taurus a few weeks earlier — one of those events that portends something big on the horizon (we learned some of what that November).

The last time Jupiter entered Gemini, a clever newspaper horoscope writer — I don’t remember who — described it as ‘forward in all directions’. This is a reminder to give everything you’re trying to accomplish at least a little attention, but really, it’s a call to focus your efforts. Gemini can have a distracted quality, and it’s not Jupiter’s best sign; it will, however, be great for Geminis and for that matter anyone with strong mutable sign placements, particularly if they are angular (for example, involving the rising sign).

Jupiter in Gemini is a reminder to make sure that you don’t overuse words, particularly at the expense of actions. We could take a lesson from the old cliche, “sayin’ it don’t make it so” and a hundred others of its variety. Jupiter represents two signs that have strong spiritual leanings — Sagittarius and Pisces. However, words (a Gemini thing) are not enough. It’s necessary to go deeper, and Jupiter in Gemini offers that option.

I suggest that you conserve your words today, particularly given the emotional quality of the Pisces Moon and the grand cross. This Jupiter in Gemini transit lasts for more than a year, and we will have plenty to say about it, from the standpoints of modern and traditional astrology.

We’ve passed through two weeks of eclipses (in the midst of which was the Venus transit of the Sun), and are now at the last quarter Moon.
