Located in the general direction of the Galactic Center, but millions of light years past it, the Great Attractor is the ultimate Sagittarian statement, retreating from us at a million miles per hour, and drawing countless galaxies (including our own) toward it in hot pursuit.

It may be difficult at first to think on this kind of scale, but the center of our own Milky Way galaxy, a super-massive black hole located about 27,000 light years from us, is right in our local neighborhood. Sure, it would take us 270 centuries to get there traveling at the speed of light, but that’s nothing compared to how far it is to the Great Attractor. That thing, whatever it is, is 150 to 250 million light years from our galaxy.

Everything around us (that is to say, all galaxies in our local group) is being pulled in its direction. We don’t know what it is; nobody has ever seen it; astronomers infer its existence from many different characteristics (such as a powerful radio source broadcasting on every frequency except visible). It is located right in the middle of Sagittarius, which is why I mention it.

Monday’s Full Moon / partial lunar eclipse is conjunct this point, at 14+ degrees of Sagittarius. Think of a lunar eclipse as a veil being lifted off the personality, and a deeper layer of reality glimpsed at for a moment. This eclipse is revealing the presence of some force too compelling to resist, pulling you in the direction of your true quest. You might be experiencing this in a constructive, adventurous way; it may be rocking your world, or both.

Notably, there are many newly-discovered points clustered in the vicinity of the eclipse in mid-Sagittarius (Ixion, Pholus and others), and one of the things that may be revealed are the deeper motives of yourself and the people around you. What comes to light over the next 24 hours will help you understand ‘what is so’ in your life. When the lunar veil is lifted, information is going to come through. Take it under advisement; you’re responsible for what you know, that information will be potent and can influence the direction of your life.

Across the sky in Gemini, the Sun and Venus are approaching their conjunction Tuesday in Gemini, which is of course the Venus transit of the Sun (that link takes you to a compilation of my articles). This too is conjunct several of the smaller points, including Chaos (orbiting our Sun in the vicinity of Pluto), the asteroid Hermes and a rarely-used asteroid called Sulamitis, a character in the Song of Solomon.

The theme of the transit, and indeed of our extended moment, is following your own heart. It is said that Dharma is the path to enlightenment. What is Dharma? Some experience it as the thing they know they came here to do. Others experience it as a state of devotion to holding the world together: sincere choices to weave the cohesion that makes strong community. What you do matters less than how you do it.

Even if you’re someone without a strong sense of mission, listen for information about what you want to be doing. For now, set aside how you might get there or what it would take, and describe your chosen destination, path of action or activity. Engage with it some active way. Whatever you do, and whoever you connect with today, bring your deepest sincerity and sense of offering.

Note, if you’re prepping for your transit of Venus, here is a resource that will help you find opportunities to see it on video.

Today’s partial eclipse of the Moon is conjunct a deep-space point called the Great Attractor (Planet Waves coverage here).
