What are these two kids saying to one another in their secret language? What do they do when they’re left alone? Who do they think everyone else is? That’s your mind, negotiating reality with itself.

Based only on a reading of the ephemeris, this month of Gemini (an airy, mutable sign) is sparkling with unusual developments, culminating with the transit of Venus on June 5. You can think of this as the beacon at the start of the 2012 era, and the one element about our current moment that the ancient Mayans, who adored Venus, would have recognized. To the extent that we put any faith in the ‘Mayan factor’ of 2012, we’re looking right at what that factor might be.

Sunday’s eclipse of the Sun points directly to whatever that is, with the Venus transit coinciding with a Full Moon eclipse (a partial eclipse of the Moon) that takes place two weeks from now, on June 4. There are actually three eclipse-like events clustered within about a day — the lunar eclipse, followed by the transit of Venus, followed by the Moon occulting Pluto. This is a point of demarcation, with a rapid progression of relatively rare events clustered together within a matter of hours.

The theme is change, but what? It’s time to think on a larger scale. One message I picked up from Sunday’s eclipse of the Sun was to pass along the reminder to hang out in collective territory. It’s a different world outside the confines of one’s ego — a lot more makes a lot bigger difference than we ordinarily allow ourselves to think. That includes us.

The often world seems split between abject horror and exquisite beauty. Often it seems possible only to visit the beauty, then slip into a world between the two, where there’s a lot of repetition and decisions don’t count as much as they should. Yet I think we do a lot of stopping down the possibilities, putting filters in front of our perception.

We might think that’s what’s necessary in order to survive, in order to blur and soften the impact of the demonic conduct of some inhabitants of the planet. Just who are they? These people who spray the world with toxins, rig it with nuclear bombs and reactors and start perfectly senseless wars — are they demons, are they aliens or are they humans like us? None of those potentials are particularly appealing. Through dull senses the matter may seem less pressing for a while.

More than that is filtered out, however. Somehow we don’t quite get that our actions mitigate the negative karma. We don’t see that our choices help orient the world on sanity. You could, if you looked at yourself and the world with clear perception, you’d see that your role is not just helpful, it’s essential in this process. The biggest lie is the one that says you don’t make a difference. Believe that and you’re neutralized. Cast it off and you are both liberated and effective.

Without those filters, you would understand that your choice for sanity right now penetrates back into the past, healing the pain of history even as it opens the possibility for a different future from the one toward which we seem headed.

The Sun and the Moon entered Gemini Sunday with fanfare, making an annular eclipse in the first degree of that sign.
