The unconscious option is to cleave to the adverse conditioning of the recent past. Awareness would dictate that you choose to embrace the once and future solar Taurus of simple joy experienced in the body. The conscious choice is clear. This is no time to be shy. It is a time to engage with life as a reason to celebrate its abundance, not an occasion to fear its challenges.

Solar Taurus celebrates life everywhere. North of the equator, the Sun’s entry to symbolic fixed earth is concurrent with the certainty of more abundant light and warmth on the real Earth. In the southern hemisphere, harvests will be commencing. All of that is the timeless Taurus.

Events of the last two years have distracted us from the timeless Taurus, as if to pull our attention away from the immediacy of living. In 2010, the Sun’s entry to Taurus, nearly concurrent with Chiron’s first ingress to Pisces, witnessed an unprecedented catastrophe in the Gulf of Mexico as human technology was literally pushed beyond its depth by avarice. Last year, solar Taurus saw us wondering whether Japan’s ancient island culture would perish at the nuclear hand which has fed its disproportionate economic dominance.

In both cases, the jury is still out on the final cost of the disasters. In both cases, the reach of a greedy few has exceeded every body’s grasp of the consequences. As you, and all of us, await the ultimate reckoning of the most massive petroleum spill and the biggest nuclear accident in history, with both events still going on, the key is not to let fear displace you from your earthly body and your living consciousness.

Taurus represents your earthly body possessed by living consciousness. Taurus is a part of you. Regardless of where it is in your chart, the sign distinguished by the quality of being fixed and the element of earth is vital territory. After all, what are we if not fixed to our planet? Even intrepid astronauts of recent past and foreseeable future can survive their tentative forays only by living in a mechanical facsimile of Earth’s atmosphere, climate and protection. If the events of the past two forays of the Sun into Taurus have anything to teach us, it’s that we are all astronauts.

Earth is a spaceship, not an artificial craft we have manufactured, reflecting our fallibility and ephemeral nature, but a system of life that has found a way to sustain itself indefinitely. You are a part of it. You and the rest of our kind came from that system of life, dependent on it and well adapted to participate with it. Somehow along the way, fear of the very challenges that made us what we are have caused us to displace ourselves from Earth’s body, thinking of it as something to be contested against and exploited. That’s an attitude that no sane and aware astronaut would take towards her spacecraft because it would jeopardize her survival. Sun entering Taurus represents an opportunity to adopt the same awareness towards the physical requisite of our survival, working with rather than against our planet. That begins with your closest connection to Earth, the physical requisite of your personal survival, your own body.

The body remembers. Even if you put an event out of your mind, even if you overcame the challenge, the anniversary of a trauma will often be felt in the body. It is the final and most difficult step of healing to release physical attachment to the adversities that have shaped you so you can fully engage the present, empowered to act on it, rather than continuously suffering a past you cannot change. Being present to the monumental disasters that have dominated our world and individual consciousness during last two solar tours of Taurus has, on some level, traumatized us all. To continuously suffer the fears that came up during those disasters would be to rob your physical being of the opportunity for an annual renewal and affirmation of life as something you make with what you have. That means working with what Taurus has.

Working with a fixed sign is working to make a trend, a pattern or a cycle last. That work has a double-edged potential, and the possibility that prevails depends on how the work is undertaken. You can work unconsciously to sustain that which afflicts your body and displaces you from being alive in the moment, or you can work consciously to sustain your body by displacing yourself from the affliction. Either way it’s going to be work. Neither way is easy, so you might as well choose with grounded awareness. Working with grounded awareness is working with elemental earth.

Working with an earth sign is being real, being practical, being wise. Among its greatest wisdoms, the element of earth teaches us that life goes on. When a huge asteroid slammed into our planet 60 million years ago, ending the dominance of the dinosaurs and inflicting a huge environmental disaster, life found a way to go on, making room for your life in the process. Now that humans have become capable of inflicting environmental disasters without the help of asteroids, it is not a question of whether life itself will continue, it is a question of whether our own decisions will leave room for ourselves. While no one of us can assure the outcome for all, you can at least make room in your life to experience the simple joy of living during the time of year when life is at its most attractive. That means working with Venus, the planet that rules Taurus.

Venus is in the western sky and getting brighter. It recently entered Gemini, next door to Taurus, where it will be on June 5 as it crosses the face of the Sun, symbolically eclipsing your consciousness with the archetype of attraction, an event that will not be repeated for generations to come, a phenomenon that will literally beg you to stop looking back and start looking up. It all begins when the Sun enters Taurus on Thursday, giving you the opportunity to advance the cause of living by being present to the simple joy of your own life now. Everybody has been bitten at least twice in the last two years, please don’t allow that to make you once again shy.

Offered In Service

Len is available for astrology readings.
