When two objects are opposed from our point of view, it really means that Earth is in between them. We are thus passing between the two most powerful gravitational fields in the solar system right now. While the literal effect of being pulled in opposite directions may be minimized by Jupiter’s distance, the symbolism cannot be ignored. In your life, you may likewise feel torn in the midst of powerful polarities. The trick is to see beyond that. Astrology’s message is one of perspective. The next few days are, in the larger, longer picture, but a passage.

In order to evaluate what kind of passage to expect, start with the distribution of objects in Scorpio. Venus entered Scorpio three weeks ago and Mercury followed a week later. Both of those planets formed aspects to Chiron in Pisces, Pluto in Capricorn, and finally, Jupiter shortly after ingress. Venus and Mercury are now starting a different story in the latter third of Scorpio even as their previous roles have been revised and rebooted by Sun and Moon.

Sun entered Scorpio on Sunday, followed yesterday by the fleetly moving Moon. Five hours after reaching the fixed water sign, Moon had caught up with Sun for a conjunction which was the Scorpio New Moon. That was a new story in itself which likewise included Chiron and Pluto as part of its development. One sign, two stories, one following the other. Sun’s opposition to Jupiter tomorrow is the passage that combines and expands both by turning a larger wheel. That wheel is a T-square motif made up of fixed signs.

Every season begins when Sun enters a cardinal sign, either Aries, Cancer, Libra or Capricorn. Cardinal signs are always followed by fixed signs, which witness the extension and elaboration of the new season. That extension is evocative of either stamina or stubbornness, depending on how we live it. Just like their cardinal counterparts, fixed signs are oriented so as to form a cross, two lines of axis at right angles to each other. Any three fixed signs will form a T-shape and that pattern is about to undergo a change in orientation with implications for all of us here.

Scorpio is a fixed sign. Up to now, the succession of objects in Scorpio have been forming a T-square with Jupiter in fixed earth Taurus, and Mars in fixed fire Leo. The tension implied by that arrangement has challenged us to distinguish between endurance and getting stuck, both in terms of personal focus and in relationship. After Sun opposes Jupiter tomorrow, the Taurus energy will begin to give way to the fourth fixed sign, Aquarius.

Waiting in late Aquarius is Neptune. Both the sign and the planet are well positioned to follow up on the expansive energy that Jupiter represents. Among other things, Aquarius is the representation of ‘all of us here’, the actual people who comprise the living component of any large entity such as a culture, nation or economic system. Neptune, among other things, symbolizes the cumulative result of individual choices made over a long period of time. When Taurus hands off to Aquarius, the axis of the fixed sign
T-square will turn and the choice between stamina and stubbornness will shift from personal relationship to political and social questions. But that is not now; the wheel does not turn in a day.

Now is a passage. It is a transition from Taurus-Leo-Scorpio to Aquarius-Scorpio-Leo. The transformation will preserve the assertive energy of Mars as well as the diversity of Scorpio’s collected archetypes. But it will not happen suddenly; it will be a gradual process that is best taken as a journey from one level of consciousness to something broader and more evolved.

So if you are feeling torn, pulled apart or divided over the weekend, remember that it will not only pass but feel very different by this time next week. If you can manage to see it that way now you will be aware. If you can realize and adapt the lessons you have learned over the last few weeks, you will be prepared. Even failing all that, even if you can manage to remember only that we are in days of passage from one place to another, that should be enough to see you through to a common destination, not only in one piece but as an important and vital piece of the one.

Offered In Service

The Scorpio Sun opposes retrograde Jupiter in Taurus shortly before 10 pm EDT tomorrow.
