It exacted a square to the Cancer Sun less than 4 hours later, at about 7:49 am EDT. That means Luna has entered the last quarter of a cycle that began on the first day of June. In the course of a day it will symbolically pull the events of over three years, past and future, into the present. In the course of a week it will bring this month, year and decade to a crossroads. If you have ever wondered what it is like to peck your way out of an egg, or emerge from a chrysalis, the opportunity may be at hand. First, let us pause to catch up on the month so far.

On June 1 we had a New Moon. That means the Moon and the Sun had come together from our perspective. That is called a conjunction. The place where they conjoined is one of two points where their respective paths cross in the sky. Those are the lunar nodes. When the luminaries are in conjunction where their paths cross, a straight line can be drawn through both of them that connects with our planet. Where that connection touched us was a shadow. That was a solar eclipse.

Two weeks later the luminaries were on opposite sides of our planet. That is an called an opposition, or in this case, a Full Moon. Each one of them were very near the two nodes, which are always opposed. Again, there was a straight line through all three. Where that line connected with the Moon was another shadow. That was a lunar eclipse. Two down, one to go.

In between a conjunction (New Moon) and opposition (Full Moon) the luminaries are at right angles to each other from our point of view. That is a square. That was the first quarter. If you saw Luna looking like a bright silver coin sliced in two, that was it. Now Luna looks that way again, except shiny on the other side. That is where we are today and how we got here, the last quarter, the last week of a lunar cycle punctuated at every opportunity by three eclipses.

By the time you read this the Moon will be in conjunction with Uranus, the Promethean planet. The place they are coming together is called the Aries point. When objects come together at that place your private life (or somebody else’s) becomes public domain and the world comes crashing into your home. Let us hope both underwear and bedroom are presentable.

Later today, while still close enough to Uranus for horse shoes, The Moon will square Pluto. This is like the Moon introducing friends who have met before and who are about to strike it up again. If you remember last year’s cardinal T-square, it might ring a bell. If the number 2012 means anything to you, you can catch the drift.

Before this time tomorrow, the Moon will have completed the T-square reunion by proxy with an opposition to Saturn. Not incidentally, Luna will set us up to come out on the other side of whatever portal we entered when the month began.

Conjunction, opposition, square — the Moon is doing all of those things today, with the planets that made last year what it was and next year what it will be. Conjunction, opposition, square — the Moon is doing all of those things this month with the Sun, and every time is either an eclipse or half way in between. In one week, it will all come together. On the first day of July it will all repeat all at the same time. Last year, the year before, this month, today, next year — all roads leading to one day, crossing at one time.

Except, it is not a crossing, it is an opening. More to the point, it can be. Fact is, it is only a crack, a perforation, at this time. We will need to open it ourselves.

Shortly before he passed on, Robert Blaschke noted that “a lot of people” do not act on auspicious aspects or transits. Even with the advanced notice and awareness that astrology offers, our tendency is to “just wait for them to be over.” Sometimes we can afford to do that. This is not one of those times. That familiar cardinal cross we are approaching again is our cue. Listen up, peeps. If you are not of the marshmallow variety, now is the time to show it. We would all be best off to start pecking now.

Offered In Service

By Len Wallick The Moon entered Aries early this morning.
