We don’t know yet. We can’t tell yet. We can’t see yet. Since April 20, 2010, the 900 pound gorilla has grown and grown and grown. If you don’t know what that refers to, take a deep breath, feel the sun on your back, have a drink of water or touch a tree and consider that the disaster in the Gulf of Mexico could just possibly and ultimately take all of that away.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We don’t know yet. Given one short-sighted lie after another, we don’t know how bad it is or how bad it’s going to get. Uranus ingressed Aries on May 27 just as we were waking up to the scope of lies and dismal potential. Jupiter following the next week seems to have magnified things. But we don’t know yet.<\/p>\n

We can’t tell yet. Since Saturn stationed forward in late Virgo on May 30, nobody has been willing to say if the the petroleum volcano can be stopped or when. If the damage can be healed or when. If balance in the natural world is irretrievably lost. If justice can be achieved in the law and economics. Saturn usually corresponds to creating structures for sustenance, but we can’t tell yet.<\/p>\n

We can’t see yet. Pluto in Capricorn historically corresponds with a restructuring of institutions and cultures. It seems inevitable that it would happen in a world increasingly toxic. But the transformation and metamorphosis of Pluto often takes place in the dark and we can’t see yet.<\/p>\n

Above all, the square aspect calls for action. Two would shout. Four is a constant scream to do something and now. Put those four on the cardinal points and no consciousness is exempt. But if we don’t know, if we can’t tell and we can’t see our way clear, what exactly are we supposed to do? That hooks us back to yesterday’s blog. Back not only to the corresponding geometry but also the single underlying ethic of baseball.<\/p>\n

MIT’s renaissance man Noam Chomsky once averred correctly that organized sports were intended to be “a distraction from what’s important”. It is therefore with considerable deliberation that your curmudgeon correspondent continues with the baseball metaphor as a tool to bring awareness and perspective to the continuous and current grand cross at the cardinal points.<\/p>\n

As a point of fact, however, for most of its participants baseball has never been very organized nor professional. For generations, women, children and men would gather to experience what has been called the divine geometry and proportions of the game. Because it was fun. Because it inspired something within them.<\/p>\n

Among other things, astrology is about geometry and proportion. The geometry of the moment is a cross. Four ninety-degree angles. In baseball this is a diamond. In astrology it is four concurrent squares. In either case, having the four corners occupied is a moment of maximum tension. The next event will release that tension. The nature of that event is determined by the participants. The quality of the unfolding depends on the extent to which each participant observes the game’s great ethic.<\/p>\n

That is usually referred to as “the way the game was meant to be played”. Giving one’s full effort in executing the most intelligent action under the circumstances, no matter how hopeless the chances of success. Part of the divine geometry and proportion of the diamond is exhibited by a single event that has taken place uncounted times over a century. The batter hits a routine grounder to an infield defender. The defender then fields the ball in a routine manner and throws the batter (now transformed into a runner) out at first base (an island of territory that belongs to whomever gets there first). Time and time again the runner is out.<\/p>\n

Yet the great ethic of baseball demands the the runner give it his all and attempt to beat the throw. It is considered a great offense to the game and all who have played it not to do so. Why? Because the routine is never a certainty. But consistent integrity of effort can be. If and only if the participants observe the great ethic, then on the occasion when the routine becomes the exception, the opportunity created can be availed.<\/p>\n

Which brings us to Chiron. Yesterday the Sun ingressed the sign of Cancer and joined the cardinal grand cross with a square to Uranus in Aries. Tomorrow it continues that aspect — the tension, the routine if you will — with a square to Jupiter. But today routine is the exception. Today the Sun forms a trine (120 degrees of separation) to Chiron, now retrograde in Pisces. A trine of support. A trine of flow. A trine of opportunity.<\/p>\n

Back on April 20, when Chiron first ingressed Pisces the economic, cultural and governmental institutions upon which we depend for our survival let us down. They failed to observe the great ethic of baseball. They did not give the full, intelligent effort called for by the circumstances. They do not deserve a place on the playing field. They should be forced to pay us for a ticket and watch us show them the way the game is meant to be played.<\/p>\n

Today that’s the gift of Chiron, the inconvenient benefic, the teacher, the awakener. A gift of awareness for those who give their all with integrity and keep their heads. Safe at first.<\/p>\n
