Hence today’s theme: coming, going or something else.

During the course of this day, the Sun, now into the second into the second degree of Sagittarius, will conjoin two asteroids, first Bacchus, then Apophis. With the well-known Greek representation of wine and abandon beginning his day only to end with a meeting his dark Egyptian antithesis, nobody would blame the Sun if he did not know whether he was coming or going.

Ms. Moon, having spent a cold day and night sweeping the re-condensing Aquarius stellium, clocks into the office while feeling through the shift into the deep waters of Pisces.

Today, Mercury in Sagittarius conjoins the an inter galactic point called the Great Attractor, which is the largest, heaviest object known to science. Mercury simultaneously opposes the asteroid Aphrodite (the Greek alter-ego of Venus), looking forward to an applying sextile to Hermes (his own Greek alter ego), an applying conjunction to Icarus (don’t get too high) and, most applying (or is that appalling?) of all, the trine to Mars. Let’s all give Merc a mulligan along with a double Espresso and excuse all the Geminis and Virgos out there is they are having a bad hair day, what say? That, or the Great Attractor will make them greatly attractive even straight out of the gym.

Venus for her part is a busy woman, as if just passing through Scorpio is not enough. Today she squares Jupiter and Chiron. Other applying aspects for Our Fair Lady include a sextile Eris, a trine to the lunar nodes and (tomorrow) aspects to Uranus and Neptune. Talk about a working girl; the long weekend probably can’t get here soon enough.

Mars is going from the frying pan of its opposition to Nessus into the ironic fire of a trine with the trans-Neputnian object named Ixion (the first man guilty of kin-slaying in Greek mythology — hey, don’t invite him to Thanksgiving). The asteroid Minerva (the Roman alter-ego of Pallas) is also up for trine and Mercury (as mentioned above) is on the radar. Please excuse Mr. Mars if he calls in sick.

Jupiter is applying in its conjunction to Chiron (later Neptune; both of these are exact in December but close right now). Saturn is functionally in The Square [to Pluto] for the duration (about three seasons). Uranus is slowing down but still retrograde enough to mess with your holiday travel, especially as it is also aspecting the lunar nodes (if at all possible, travel alone — as if). Pluto, well, has its own fish to fry (as some would say in the South, “God bless `em”).

And then, both having recently changed signs, the centaur Elatus (in the first degree of Virgo) is squaring Thereus (in the first degree of Gemini. There are at least six characters named Elatus (or Elatos) in Greek mythology. So in addition to a new sign this poor centaur has multiple personalities.

Oh! Do we need a break or not? If (and that’s a big if) you can figure which you you are today, that’s only the beginning as you try to get a fix on the person who is looking back at you trying to do the same thing. And we have five days of work to do in three days and the grocery line is taking forever and did I just turn off at the wrong exit? Say it again — Oh!

So when the outer (i.e., generational) planets are involuting in towards our personal lives and the inner (i.e., personal) planets are evoluting across various asteroid belts, what are we to make of this? Take a moment and think about it. If we are neither coming nor going, can stillness, possibly, just maybe be close at hand? If past, present and future are spiraling into each other can the NOW be far away? If you, me, grandpa, mom, and the next door neighbors we never talk to seem to be mish-mushing all together can One With be so far fetched? Maybe we are doing better than we think we are. Maybe a little confusion is in order. Maybe if it all gets to be too much, another way to deal will look better. We are the dog being wagged, but the tail is theoretically still under the control of that thing at the other end of the backbone — best use it.

Offered In Service

By Len Wallick Before Charles Darwin, the word and concept evolution existed with an entirely different context and set of meanings than the one we now assume it to have.
