  1. Thank you for sharing that story, Eric. Even though i have never seen Mr. Reed live, your recollection is evocative in a Proustian way.

  2. Damn, saw it live — opening night of the tour, in New York. It was stunning.

This was in the spring of 89, in the Winter Garden Theater. I walked in and the first thing I felt was Andy Warhol, the set design was this magnificent tribute to Andy’s style of design.

Those old theaters were made for rock shows. In the first set he did New York, top to bottom. Second act, he did a full set of the old favorites. One of the best shows I’ve ever seen. I had last row tickets, which in a Broadway theater are great — and it meant there was a big aisle behind my seat for dancing.

This album is a vent for all the rage of our era. It’s a gift to the future. We need it now. The Statue of Bigotry indeed.
