Containers for the Full Moon

How do you keep yourself together under intense pressure? There’s a fair question, given the sky this week. Despite the sexually carefree traditions of Beltane (the ancient Pagan holiday honoring the fertile Earth with lots of sex and fire), there are practical questions of integrity at hand.

Section of chart showing selected points for the Scorpio Full Moon with the Sun (yellow circle) in Taurus. Note the opposition of Mercury (geen glyph in Aries) and Saturn (in Libra), with Vesta (purple chevron) nearby in Taurus.

We’re now in the last days before the Scorpio Full Moon, and Full Moons are notorious for amping up emotions and keeping us up at night. Mars in Virgo is square two points (the lunar nodes), representing a choice between wanting to stick with what we know and wanting to move forward consciously.

Neptune and Chiron in Pisces are also square those same lunar nodes, meaning that you may feel pulled between addressing your life circumstances with intuitive creativity (the Pisces side) or rational problem-solving (the Virgo side) if you’re having trouble finding the balancing point.

The Taurus Sun is approaching the Black Moon Lilith (a calculated point) representing the shadow material of the psyche. Under this astrology, is it possible to be free and be responsible to yourself?

Let’s consider Saturn and Vesta, both of which are about containment. Saturn in Libra and Vesta in Taurus are still far apart, but they have one thing in common right now: they are both in Venus-ruled signs. Let’s take them one at a time — and then see what they have in common.

Astrology Today: Oracle for Thursday, May 3, 2012

Today’s Oracle takes us to the Cancer weekly for Jan. 27, 2006

Astrology Blog: The Oracle, Weekly Horoscopes, Monthly Horoscopes.

The pressure is on; it seems that at every turn, there is a new commitment or obligation to fulfill. You’re in a position that many could not understand precisely because you understand commitment and obligation so differently than others. What develops later this week will give you a good indication of how you’re handling certain long-term developments and changes that have, it works out, allowed you to be more effective and bring a lot more energy to meeting those commitments. I know it’s a lot of work — but as you will soon see, it’s truly worth it.

Note, The Oracle is a random selection from the Eric Francis horoscope archives. Each day we publish one entry from among the 10,000 in our database. It’s a little slice of horoscope history — but chosen by our Oracle program, which always speaks to the present moment. New horoscopes are published each Friday plus twice a month in Planet Waves subscriber edition and Planet Waves Light. And for your 2012 annual reading, you’ll find Revolution. Revelation. Reality Check.

Of Love and the Eternal Triangle

By Sarah Taylor

This week, Sarah offers a personal insight into the nature of triangular relationships in her own life, and how it is shaping her relationship life today. This article was originally published as part of Planet Waves’ 2012 Annual Edition.

From the get-go, I was part of a love triangle. Not in the conventional sense of an entanglement of lovers, but it was an entanglement nonetheless. And the love itself was entangled.

Ace of Cups - RWS Tarot deck.

Ace of Cups from the Rider-Waite Smith Tarot deck. The Ace is love in potential and the greatest aspiration to the demonstration of love here on Earth.

I was born into an aristocratic family in north-west England in the early seventies. My father had unexpectedly inherited a ‘title’ from his uncle when he was 18 and living in Africa. The accounts of his life of that time that I managed to draw out of him were sketchy – much like the accounts I received of most of his life, which he avoided relating as much as possible; many of his memories seemed to be imbued with an indescribable amount of pain.

What I do know is that, upon inheriting, the form and content of my father’s life changed markedly and permanently. He went from being a country mouse, to a cat with a rep to protect; he went from bare-back horse-rides to school from his uncle’s farm, to trust funds, fast cars and a fast life. He had been married four times by the time he met my mother, as a VIP passenger on an ocean liner where she worked in the purser’s office. The story goes that he was trying to extricate himself from a tricky situation, homed in on my mother and asked her to be his alibi. My mother has often said that she was swept up in the romance of who he seemed to be. She also said that she felt a deep need to protect him. I think in that moment the contract of my parents’ relationship was sealed.

And so, like all self-respecting aristocrats, after marrying my mother, the next thing on the agenda was to produce an heir. Specifically, a son – daughters did not, and continue not to, inherit titles in the UK. In my mother’s words, she chose to give up her independence as a professional woman – which defined much of who she said she felt herself to be – and become “a baby machine.” She was a mother, but she was not maternal. As much as she loved my father, she had been seduced by the trappings that came with my father’s title, and those trappings started to feel restrictive. There was another part of her dying to live another life. The more it called, the more she threw herself at the trappings, the more trapped she became, the more it died. My father wasn’t killing her: Her choices were doing that all by themselves.

Planet Waves FM :: A Celestially Auspicious Occasion

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

Today’s edition of Planet Waves FM is doubling for daily astrology (which is covered in the first 15 minutes of the program).

Your host, Eric Francis.

This is a fantastic edition, featuring an interview with Donna Henes, author of the book Celestially Auspicious Occasions. Donna knows a lot about the natural holidays — the equinoxes and solstices, as well as the cross-quarter days (the Pagan high sabbats). We’re now in the season of Beltane so this is the perfect time to have her on the program.

Donna is also the author of Dressing Our Wounds in Warm Clothes and The Queen of My Self: Stepping into Sovereignty in Midlife. I will let this program speak for itself.

Here is your program in the old player, where you’ll find the full archives and a downloadable zip file.

Thanks for tuning in.

Eric Francis

Astrology Today: Oracle for Wednesday, May 2, 2012

Today’s Oracle takes us to the Scorpio monthly for Feb. 1, 2002

Astrology Blog: The Oracle, Weekly Horoscopes, Monthly Horoscopes.

By now I really hope you are coming to terms what a profoundly mental being you really are. I mean, it’s stunning, and I’ve never read any cookbook description of Scorpio that says ‘mind that can pull a 747 down the runway’. But is that necessary? Is there not some concealed need to prove you’re more than just an over-emoted ball of hormones pulling that airplane? What would it feel like to completely update your mental files, to vastly simplify your thought process, to work on many levels at once, and to pour the intelligence of your body into your intellectual machinery? What if you could get yourself out of the trap of linear time and its drawn-out approach to problem-solving? The way is open, and your life really would benefit immensely from efficiency, ease and some space to wiggle in the wisdom of your own patently unique logic.

Revelation. And now a word from Down There

Fe Bongolan has taken a brief reprieve from her political column to regain some much-needed sanity and bring down her cortisol levels. In her absence, Fe’s uterus has agreed to take on this week’s Fe-911 column in honor of May Day, also known as Beltane 2012.

We all know Fe has the tendency to blurt out what she really thinks, and lately she’s been blurting and thinking and saying a lot about the cretins out there trying to push her country into a time machine and dialing all of us back to the 14th century. As Fe’s uterus, I agree with her. And I have absolutely no hope that politicians, economists, scientists or engineers will be able to solve the mystery of why everyone, here and abroad, always goes batshit crazy over me every few decades or so throughout the millennia.

First off, I am completely hidden. No one ever pays attention to me except when I need medical care, or when they try to sell Fe products for menstrual bleeding — no longer an issue I might add — or to make me smell nicer. Or, get this — to make my vaginal lips pinker — what is up with that? Billions of dollars paying for expensive spray-on bronzers to tan the rest of the body, yet when it comes to the pussy, you want it bleached?  I am quite happy to say my pussy lips are a soft golden olive with hints of rose madder. And not for one second am I even going to contemplate a hose-down with Clorox to make my pussy look like that of a virgin Caucasian’s. What is wrong with this picture?

Now that I’m up here, I might as well ask this question. Why is it that I am called ‘down there’? I am not Australia (or conversely, for my sister uteri below the equator — NOT Nova Scotia). I am not a location. I am a functioning reproductive organ. My fellow uteri and I agree: What’s up with regarding us as a country? Or as real estate in general?

Fire in the Mind

There’s a dragon with matches loose on the town
Take a whole pail of water just to cool him down

Kim Kardashian swears that she is not the naked woman cooking eggs in a photo currently circulating around the internet.

OMG wrong blog. This is Planet Waves.

The Moon is in Virgo, as of this writing making many aspects: an opposition to Neptune, and by 4:26 am EDT, an unusually powerful conjunction to Mars. That emphasis comes from the current position of Mars, which is square the lunar nodes to a tiny fraction of a degree. The nodes are about direction, in the biggest sense of the word; anything square the nodes indicates either a conscious change in direction or something that alters one’s course.

Moon conjunct Mars at 4:26 am EDT. Note the precision in the alignment between Mars and the lunar nodes -- just 1/15tth of a degree. Mars is still slow and powerful in Virgo after coming out of its recent retrograde.

A bit later in the morning, the Moon will oppose Chiron, which is a visceral reminder to balance your mind and your emotions. Start by giving both their voice, and then look for the points of equilibrium. There is a kind of mutual reception here — the Moon resonates with Pisces and Chiron with Virgo, so a real exchange is possible. If you find yourself in what feels like a no-win situation or a endless mental/emotional loop, find a way out. Perhaps easier said than done, but certainly possible. Be aware of what you’re feeling before it overwhelms you, and while you still feel you have the freedom of choice.

The Moon’s conjunction to Mars (square the nodes) gives the setup momentum and emotional resonance. Few astrologers would describe the Moon conjunct Mars in Virgo as a happy aspect — except for one thing: it works because of its precision. Mars, still slow and powerful after its recent retrograde, is aligned to the lunar nodes to 1/15th of a degree: that’s close enough for Virgo, measurable only with fine calipers (or an astrology chart).

This is an aspect of fire in the mind, though it’s deep in the mind and the Moon’s presence is acting like a lens for that heat and mental prowess. This is a good day to make decisions.

Meanwhile, another fiery influence has entered an Earth sign: Vesta, goddess of the sacred hearth, is now in Taurus, joining the Sun and other points as well. Vesta represents the core creative flame that burns inside a human soul, which adds another source of heat to what is already a hot sky. As I mentioned yesterday, part of that heat is coming from the Moon approaching a Full Moon that splits the distance between the equinox and the solstice exactly, which activates the Aries Point.

Today’s Oracle takes us to the Taurus weekly for August 11, 2006

Astrology Blog: The Oracle, Weekly Horoscopes, Monthly Horoscopes.

You seem to be breaking free of an unwanted emotional or domestic bond that may be based entirely on a misunderstanding. It would not be an exaggeration to say that you can suddenly see through the deception or the odd fantasy at the core of the situation. But you must maintain the discipline to keep your distance, because despite a certain person’s chilly and superior attitude, this individual actually needs you more than you need them. And, at the end of the day, that explains it all.

Note, The Oracle is a random selection from the Eric Francis horoscope archives. Each day we publish one entry from among the 10,000 in our database.
