There are many cycles of eclipses that have been discovered; the most famous is the saros cycle, which tracks patterns of eclipses through the centuries and can link current events with those hundreds of years ago. A similar concept is the metonic series, which repeats eclipses every 19 years (6939.69 days), lasting about 5 cycles. Eclipses occur in nearly the same calendar date. In addition the octon subseries repeats 1/5 of that or every 3.8 years (1387.94 days). This series has 21 eclipse events between July 11, 1953 and July 11, 2029. Some astrologers follow these patterns closely; I have in the past, but I’m not tracking it for the current set of eclipses, till this post. If you have some information you would like to add, please feel free to enter it as a comment.
PS, don’t miss this “exercise video” from Brooklyn. Whaddya doin? I am reminded what it was like to go to school there. Apply this to my 5th grade classmates.
Wow:
PanAm sells off its assets and CIA reveals Iran-Contra info. Not bad for an eclipse catch.
Now I’m really freaked out! I had never heard of the metonic cycles. I’ve been alive for two in this series so far and I can pinpoint big shakeups around each one. 1972 I was planning my first trip to Europe the following year with my older sister and sans parents. It opened my eyes wide but placed a cultural gap between myself and my group of friends in small town California that could never really be bridged. Somehow pep rallies didn’t really cut it after that and I was ostracised from the group soon after had a few issues with my sis too). In 1991 my son was born and my relationship with his father disintegrated – and my mother disowned me for not being married to my boy’s dad (what century did THAT thought process come from?!). I struggled on my own for a lot of years after that to make ends meet and rebuild my career. The eclipses giveth and the eclipses taketh away, it seems. Yikes! …Or do I mean OK bring it on? 😉
No matter the series name, the 1991-1992 eclipses are all around the time of my conceiving and bearing two children – who as calendar time points out – are now in and nearing adulthood.
I had barely moved to LA at that point with intent to give life a fresh-start. (Not that a new start was needed, just a turning point- called very very intense saturn return!)
I guess I did begin life anew, in an un-planned sort of way (the pregnancies were planned – but my life “plan” had never included marriage or children). The stories of how I was manipulated out of every thing I had ever wanted…hm…well, point to my level of gulibility at that time, fer sure.
Many years of learning to “listen differently” and once again it is time – and opportunity – to start fresh.
Happy Eclipse-ing

Hey Tracy — I triple checked the date of the newspaper that I photographed and edited the date from July 12 1992 to July 12 1991. Small research (with wiki as my only source) tells me that both today’s eclipse and the one from July 12 1991 are part of the metonic series of eclipses, which repeat eclipses every 19 years. Plus, I found a wiki page dedicated to the July 12 1991 eclipse.

P.S When I found this old newspaper, I was like a kid in a candy store. The headlines are pretty amazing. From Iran-Contra CIA tapes, Pan-Am, black caucus and the eclipse front and center. I could have photographed that old paper for days. It was a neat experience to have an hour or two with it and dive into that space.
Thanks Tracy.
So, 49 to go!
Now when we’ve looked at these in the past, the correspondences have been interesting but not necessarily telling. 1992 was also a turning point in that there was a recession during the term of Bush 41. It was the last year of 12 years of Reagan and/or Bush in the White House. We had just been through Bush War I in Iraq wherein pappy knew not to invade (Cheney, who was on the team, had other plans that he would fulfill 11 years later). Clinton was elected in November of that year, so the eclipse happened during the Bush/Clinton campaign.
Hmm.. Personally: I discovered the Grandmother Land…I had a polyamorous relationship that summer with two women who themselves fell in love; a lot of that happened on the Grandmother Land; Sabine, then my primary partner, went back to France that autumn and though we’re in touch I have not seen her since. It was my first year reporting and researching PCBs…the incident in New Paltz had occurred 12/29/91, close to the immediately prior solar eclipse. (I did not start studying astrology until March 1994 when I bought an ephemeris, nearly two years later. But I was probably reading the Patric Walker horoscope at the time.)

Hi 🙂 This eclipse is the 27th (of 76) in Saros Series 146; the last eclipse in this series was on June 30th 1992. This is the “peak” of the series, which began in 1541, because the 1992 eclipse was the longest in the series, and today’s is only one second shorter.
