Hightlight: Sun-Saturn in Libra

Dear Planet Waves Reader:

The highlight of this week’s astrology is the Sun-Saturn conjunction in Libra. Most people would not associate an aspect involving Saturn with the word ‘high’ or ‘light’ but that does happen to be the most interesting aspect next up. Technically the conjunction happens Thursday evening in the States, early Friday morning in the UK and EU and later Friday in Oz. Yet it’s in effect all week and it will shape each of the days that’s approaching.

Sun-Saturn conjunction is about four days away.
You might feel this one of three ways — or mix and match.

1. The sense that you need to do things right, and that you’re going to focus on improving your work methods, and your image with authority. One pitfall here is letting that sense of authority dim your light, and not recognizing that the relationship is mutual. I would say don’t kiss ass; just do your job well and make sure you see both sides of the picture in any situation calling for such.

2. The sense of an impending deadline, with a flavor of ‘do or die’. It will help to pace yourself this week, and not take on anything new — but rather to work with what you’ve got going and make sure you do it well. Saturn is giving the feeling of setting a limit. With Mercury out of retrograde and in new territory, you may want to blaze forward. This is the week to take things one step at a time, and that means making a conscious effort not to skip any steps.

3. Working to get your life into balance. There may be ‘external’ pressures to restore balance, or internal — astrology has a curious way of working from both dimensions. But the theme is the same. Libra wants equanimity and to spread the work and the rewards in a fair way; and it’s a reminder that we need to maintain some balance in order to be happy. If your life has veered too far in one direction, you may find yourself guided to pull back, or emphasize another direction.

Part of why this aspect is so vital is because Saturn in Libra is square the lunar nodes in Cancer and Capricorn. This tells us that the relatively small things we do have larger implications — and that changes that are a long time coming can take root, with deep and positive effects. It’s as good a time to break old habits as it is to make them. It’s also a special condition that says, don’t skip steps (that’s because the planet involved — Saturn — rules one of the lunar nodes, in Capricorn).

Hope that helps! Planet Waves subscribers — look for your extended monthly forecast for October in your email tomorrow.

  1. yes, all noticeable themes, esp the balance one & the urge to get movin’.

my first thought looking at the graphic was, “oh geez — sun-saturn is conjunct my natal vesta rx – pluto rx conjunction, near-square my saturn & asc in cancer, and opposite my venus in aries.”

not even sure where to begin with all that, but i’ll be taking some pointers from the “pacing” and “balancing” sections. 🙂

  2. Eric,
Thank you for showing us how it’s done. You are master of both the “light” side and the “high” side. i’m paying attention. i’m taking notes.

  3. Same here, all of the above three are manifesting. I am moving out of state in the next few weeks, closing up here, starting over there, and as well my work life is changing…… so deadlines, and all clearly situations that require my best, and yes, it is seeming to be setting up for support rather than disruption even though at the moment it is all in motion!

  4. Thanks for these three highlights, they really are all happening for me at once. I’ve been on some kind of Preparation Mode, today I worked on maintaining the roof before winter, tomorrow I get new tires, usually I blow things off more than this, so maybe it’s a good trend.

  5. Right — the Sun-Saturn conjunction happens with the Moon about to square Sun- Saturn, right on her South Node. I didn’t mention that in the interest of simplicity. But we have the rulers of both nodes involved in an aspect with the nodes. This basically has all the markings of an eclipse that’s not really an eclipse. This feels like it might have the opposite effect — instead of the destabilizing effect of an eclipse, the sense of things falling into place.

  6. With the nodes it’s another cardinal T-square, but this time leaving Aries out. Whew. I think we really do need to cool off a bit before Jupiter and Uranus return 🙂

  7. In addition to the node, at the moment of the conjunction of Sol and Saturn Luna herself will be applying a square to them from her own south node. I think that’s pretty interesting considering your brilliant key word description of Luna as the cosmic cue ball a few years back.
