Ground-eye view:

My favorite part of this bit of reporting is the quote from Francis Fox Piven at the end. When I heard it I thought, “Well, astrologers know. It’s called Uranus-Pluto.” – amanda

FRANCES FOX PIVEN: I teach at the Graduate School of the City University of New York. I am here because I am so enthusiastic about the possibilities of this sit-in, over the marches that are occurring over postal worker issues, the sister demonstrations that are starting in Chicago and Los Angeles, and maybe in Boston. I think we desperately need a popular uprising in the United States. None of us know. I study movements. None of us know the exact formula for when those movements erupt, but it could be. And if that is true, then these people who are here are really wonderful. I would do anything to help them.

Uranus square Pluto

Published by under Daily Astrology Blog

Someone just said to me, “There might be a protest in my town, but I wonder what we’d be protesting.”

You’re always protesting the same thing, and it starts with war. If you protest against GMO foods, that’s an anti-war, pro-peace movement. If you’re supporting Internet freedom, that’s a peace movement. If you’re angry about Wall Street, well all those guys rake in profits on the war machine. What made the Sixties the Sixties was when the movements all started to figure out they were doing the same thing. The Diggers, the Black Panthers, SDS, SNCC, Youth International Party, Redstockings and finally Woodstock — it was in truth all one movement. That is an inner recognition, that we’re all part of one family of humanity. And it’s happening now.

Anonymous is Terrifying (Notes from Wall Street)

Published by under Politics

Editor’s Note: As you may know, the protests on Wall Street in New York City are gathering energy. This article was posted as a diary to Daily Kos, a political site to which Planet Waves also contributes (this is not my writing — it’s from Ollie Garkey’s diary). The term MSM means mainstream media. The article addresses the collective Anonymous, which you may have heard about from the Julian Assange days. Link to the full-length original diary on Daily Kos.

The MSM just doesn’t know what to do with a leaderless movement. If there aren’t celebs, if there isn’t an official spokesperson, if there isn’t an easy narrative, they just don’t want to pay attention. That’s because doing actual in depth reporting is hard and boring, and no one wants to stand out in a square with a bunch of ragged revolutionaries when they could be sitting up in the towers interviewing wall streeters while sipping single malt and enjoying free cocaine. Can you blame them? So I’m going to talk a bit about who Anonymous is and how they’re helping.

Protest On Wall Street New York City

Protest On Wall Street New York City

Anonymous has promised us they’re on our side, they’re telling us to stand strong in the square, and they still scare the hell out of me.

Not only have they released Anthony Bologna’s home address online, as well as the addresses and phone numbers of his entire family, children included, they’re doing the same for the family of a Wall Street CEO every day that our demands aren’t met. All of them.

That’s a pretty hefty list right now. But that’s who Anonymous is. They’re not something new. They’re the great terror of the French Revolution. It’s just that they have computers instead of Guillotines, and in the modern day, they’re nonviolent.  You can’t stop them, but they won’t kill you. Even if you could arrest them all, there isn’t the jail space on earth to hold them, and most of them live in countries where you can’t just hold on to people forever (I hope). They know how to cover their tracks. If you do manage to find and arrest one of them acting in a leadership capacity, another one with the same skills steps up to the plate within five minutes.

Aaron Barr of HB Gary, the last guy who tried to attack them (at the behest of Bank of America and the US government) was accused by Colbert of essentially sticking his penis into a hornets nest. Anonymous shut down his company’s website and hacked his personal and business email, releasing it online. They then took the information that HB Gary was planning on selling to the FBI and e-mailed it TO the FBI. They would rather go to prison then let someone make money attacking them. They crashed his company’s server and deleted it’s backup files, and even went so far as to remotely log into his iPad and wipe it. This was a computer security company whose entire business model was designed around securing companies from hackers. And just to add insult to injury, they posted the Barr’s home address and social security number online.

The weekend astrology

Published by under Astro Daily

Fungus by Nubble Pond, Maine. Photo by Amanda Painter.

Today is Friday, Sept. 30, 2011. The Moon is in Scorpio all day today. It leaves for Sagittarius at 12:42 am EDT Saturday morning, where it will spend the weekend – perhaps finding god after its sexy Friday night?

That said, relationships continue to be the theme, with or without sex involved. We often try to find ourselves in our relationships, putting to them the questions of “who am I” and “what do I want?” and getting quite stuck – and building up toxic resentments – when we cannot find our answers there. In fact, Jan Seward addressed this very phenomenon in her column yesterday evening, noting that we often look for partners who embody the parts of ourselves we’ve repressed and cast off. Unfortunately, the longer we’re faced with this mirror of all we are not — but wish we were — the more likely we are to take out our pain on our partner.

Clearly relationships don’t have to be that way. The solution is to focus on self-awareness. The question many of us face is figuring out how to keep that focus and still stay in an intimate partnership, without one or the other taking over. How can we feel free enough to explore ourselves fully as part of a pair? How can we maintain a functional partnership if we need to be free?

Astrology Today: Oracle for Friday, Sept. 30, 2011

Published by under Daily Oracle

Today’s Oracle takes us to the Aries weekly of April 23, 2004.

The Oracle.

It may appear that a certain course of action slipped away before it could become a viable option. But the opportunity will present itself in a few other forms over the next week to ten days if you remember that there are many ways to reach the same destination. However, one of them is not blow for blow combat or even a mild battle of will or words. Small disagreements could blow up into something larger and rip apart what in reality is a fairly delicate and productive situation. A good mantra for the week is “everyone is entitled to their opinion, even me.” Keep in mind who has what power, and how it got to be that way, and you’ll remember to mind your politics.

Are you looking for an extra clue? That’s what astrology is for. New horoscopes are published weekly plus twice a month in Planet Waves subscriber edition and Planet Waves Light. And for your annual reading, check out Light Bridge.

A relationship bait-and-switch, or evolutionary karma?

Published by under Psychology

Editor’s note:If you have a question you would like answered and explored in this forum, please email Jan at Drjanseward [at] gmail.com. Letters may be edited for length and clarity. Don’t be shy — we’re enjoying what our readers come up with! — amanda

Hi Jan,

I married my husband on May 15th 2010 and we’re already separated! This has been such an indescribably painful experience.

When we met and moved in together he was the most loving, kind and patient person I ever met. After we married he morphed into a controlling, angry and out of control man. All communications went out the window. I tried and tried to make things work but got no co-operation on his part. His behavior spiraled out of control. He got fired from work for inappropriate behavior and attacked two of my kids (not physically).

It’s just so hard for me to accept that it’s really over. If so, what was the point of being married for only one year? Why would I have to have this painful experience? I loved him so much and at one time we were so harmonious together. I just can’t figure out if he was fooling me all along or if something happened to make him change. If I am truly meant to leave it in the past and move forward I must admit it is so very hard to do. Recently after two months of nothing but angry communications we actually had a conversation. He did apologize for the things I said I was upset about but there would be so much work involved to really make things work and I just don’t think he’s up to it.

Thanks,
Fugi

Dear Fugi,

Thank you for your letter. You included your astrological information (which I’ve withheld for privacy), and I know that if we looked at your and your ex-husband’s charts we would find astrological explanations for the surprising and painful ending to a relationship that seemed to hold such promise. But astrology talks about potentials and possibilities, and becomes more predictive in hindsight. We are left with psychology to understand how we participate in creating our circumstances by way of free will and the choices we make that determine our futures.
