Jupiter, Chiron, Neptune Conjunction of 2009
By Dale O’Brien from Next World Stories, published in January 2009.
“Shapes of things before my eyes….will time make men more wise?”
– from an old song sung by Rod Stewart
As a new year lies ahead of us, astrologers and their readers can speculate on whether it will be a “good year” or a “bad year,” either encouraging passive hope, or else stimulating fear. A more enlightened way of looking at things is less simplistic, but quite worthwhile. The Serenity Prayer advises us to pray that, “…we accept the things we cannot change, change the things we can, and have the wisdom to know the difference.”

Floating Shivasana by Beverly Naidus.
What does the Serenity Prayer have to do with astrology, and the astrology of 2009? I’ve found (from Chiron’s mythology, astronomy and my own astrological research) that transiting Chiron points out issues best understood from the perspective of The Serenity Prayer. Chiron orbits between Saturn and Uranus. Accepting “reality” is Saturnine; “change” is Uranian, and Chiron, mythically, is the wisest and most ethical of beings, with no permanent allegiance to either perspective. Chiron’s wise middle path meanders through time and circumstance, reminding us that sometimes change is not yet possible, is perhaps not wise, but can occur. Sooner or later, though, if wisdom guides our choices, change can come at the right time. We can take this Chironic/Serenity Prayer approach to astrology in general, and “astro-logically” speaking, certainly should look at transiting Chiron in this manner.
Speaking of Chiron, 2009 features an extremely rare triple conjunction of Chiron, Jupiter and Neptune in Aquarius. Rather than to merely pontificate about what this WILL bring, let’s look at what the “logic of the stars” (astro-logy) reveals.
A conjunction is when the planets line up together, implying collaboration. The conjunction of Sun and Moon (the most obvious components of our sky), is called a New Moon, signifying a new beginning. Similarly, any conjunction is collaboration and a new beginning. Conjunctions of planets further away from Earth and Sun deal with matters larger than the person and ego, and are therefore bigger and influential. Celestial bodies, like Chiron and Neptune, that cannot be seen by the naked eye, and orbit beyond the last visible planet (Saturn) correspond to unique perspectives that have emerged from the formerly entirely unknown collective unconscious. Jupiter (like Saturn) represents a social/societal need in humans, which results in conformity. Unlike Saturn, Jupiter suggests what we “should” do, what would be a good thing to do (for various reasons), and is related to popularization, “the thing to do.” Mythically, Jupiter creates something out of nothing (e.g., a shower of gold that He made in one of his accounts).
Some conjunctions, like a New Moon, or any conjunction involving Saturn merit an exact chart for the exact conjunction. However, Chiron, Neptune and Jupiter have inexactitude in common, so the conjunction spans most of 2009, especially mid-May and beyond.
Starting in May 2009 we have Jupiter, Neptune and Chiron in “the Cosmic Lab” (co-lab-orating) concocting (or trying to concoct) something new. Like a birth, this is a significant beginning of a process that will have a purpose and focus not just for a brief time this year, but also for many years to come. As the faster- moving Chiron, and especially Jupiter, distance themselves from one another, we can follow up this new expression of human consciousness in years to come. What wants to come in for 2009 and beyond is a very big deal for humanity. Anyone born at this time, or anything started at this time, has the potential to be truly special. Anyone’s birth chart significantly aspected by this configuration will be challenged to readjust her/his life to be better, more inspiring, and soul-based. Time and space do not allow me to go into the height, the depth and the breadth of scope involved here, at this time, but I will lay out some clues about where we can look to learn more.
The alignment, or conjunction, as mentioned, tells us one thing. The fact that this conjunction occurs in the sign Aquarius, tells us the most overt areas of expression, as well as the style of expression. The particular Zodiacal degrees where this conjunction takes place are also relevant. (See the relevant Sabian Symbol degree images.) We can also look to history, particularly recent history, to see what occurred when, for example, Chiron was last in Aquarius. For reliable clues to the astrological nature of these three celestial objects we should look to solid astrological research, not glib clichГ©s, as well as to the mythological stories of the characters for which these objects were named. Particular attention should be paid to mythological tales of the interactions of these three characters, in any/every combination. Since I know of no mythic story of Jupiter, Chiron and Neptune, we can combine the mythology of two of the three to give us clues to what might be coming up/going down later this year, and beyond.
For this particular triple conjunction of 2009, we should also note that these three objects are square (approximately 90 degrees) Sun conjunct Mercury retrograde in Taurus in May of this year. At every level of astrological analysis suggested, these two require similar scrutiny, as they bring additional complexity. Since the square is involved, and in fixed signs, there is likely to be enormous resistance and challenge to what wants to be given expression.
I, along with other astrologers, have found specific astrological thoughts and expression to be evocative of the planetary archetypal energies being thought, spoken, heard, written, or read. When Neptune is involved, as it is here in contemplating the astrology of May 2009, and particularly when Neptune is square Mercury, and even more particularly when Mercury is in apparent retrograde motion, lucid communication is more challenging (but not necessarily impossible) and confusion might occur (but perhaps need not). Similarly, Chiron square Mercury retrograde and Jupiter square Mercury retrograde indicate probable difficulties in communication for different reasons. My research about Chiron, involving well over a thousand charts and over a hundred returned questionnaires, has led me to see Chiron in Aquarius consciousness to be most like someone who has come to Earth as if from another planet, seeing much of human social behavior as bizarre and arbitrary. Similarly, those who do not identify with Chiron in Aquarius find those expressing Chiron in Aquarius opinions to be eccentric, weird and alien. This contrast is likely to be most pronounced in May 2009, and even now in the process of considering May 2009. Jupiter square Mercury contrasts seeing issues in terms of the bigger (Jupiter) perspective in contrast to a singular, particular perspective. (“Can’t see the forest for the trees.”)
Just as now the writer, editor and reader might find understanding what May 2009’s astrology is all about to be challenging, in May 2009 there is likely to be a significant communication challenge related to what wants to come in at that time. A completely new, purportedly better, detached holistic consciousness wants to expand and transcend ego’s attachment to the personal, narrow mind.
Collaborative movements of underdog outsiders with holistic and alternative perspectives (Chiron) are likely to be receiving favorable popular attention (Jupiter) via mass media (Neptune in Aquarius). However, there is likely to be stiff (fixed sign) resistance from at least one prominent (Sun) materialistic (Taurus) powerful person or faction (such as Wall Street), at best half-listening (Mercury retrograde), probably mocking the Aquarian perspective. (Mercury retrograde conjunct Sun square Chiron, negatively expressed). Imagine, if you will, say Planet Waves’ Eric Francis on Fox News….)
Chiron indicates where we have the possibility of wisdom, not the guarantee of such. Various tales of Chiron’s mythology tell us that we cannot be Chironically wise if we see ourselves as better than, or worse than, another. For instance, in May 2009 to derisively dismiss one’s critic(s) as “thick as a brick” (Mercury in Fixed Earth Taurus) neither removes the resistant obstacle, nor successfully avoids it. Instead, taking into account and trying to address the critics’ concerns is a critically important part of the process. Recognizing obvious differences is one thing. Rendering judgmental condescension from that awareness is neither helpful, nor unavoidable. Anything shy of wise detachment (Chiron in Aquarius) portends suffering for the egos involved. Mythology tells us that Chiron, half mortal, half immortal, deals with soul, the incarnation of spirit into matter. His mythic life story tells us that physical, mental and emotional pain are part of the process of being ensouled. Issues of acceptance or rejection by others (father, mother, brother) will shape our soul’s expression, but soul’s reason to be is to find and express the wisdom of understanding our nature, our place and our place in time, and the same for those we try to help. Astrology can be approached and shared from this perspective, which is ultimately the only type of astrology that matters (in my opinion). Astrology and kindred alternative perspectives figure particularly prominently into the potential challenges and opportunities in May 2009 and beyond.
Jupiter and Chiron in mythology have a changing story, but my astrological research has found that Chiron coming to Jupiter, as in the case of May 2009, expresses Jupiter’s favor for Chiron. Zeus/Jupiter raised Chiron from his nine days in the underworld to be the constellation Centaurus, so that humankind could (literally) look up to him and be reminded of his mythic life for inspiration. In 2009, some influential conventional people are likely to popularize underdog/outsider/alternative perspectives, particularly in “Aquarian” dimensions of expression, including the internet/alternative radio and TV. However, this is not necessarily an entirely good thing.
When Chiron was last in Aquarius (1955-1960) alternative radio of the time brought blues, rhythm and blues, rock’n’roll and rockabilly, for the first time, to the ears of those who were neither poor nor black. Mythic Chiron played a stringed instrument that mesmerized god, human, animal and “even the rocks themselves.” (Rock music.) Aquarius is an AIR sign, a fixed sign (in one place, one frequency) represented by a glyph for waves (airwaves) that also appears as the symbol for electricity in schematic diagrams. Electricity makes radio, television (and now the internet) possible, and electrified instruments, especially stringed instruments, defined the sound of ’55 to ’60.
In these five years, soul found a new way to express itself not in obscurity, but in a much more widespread manner. Those with arguably the most soul, those beginning life under adverse circumstances and discriminated by those well off (as was Chiron) created mesmerizing music. Ignored or ridiculed, as was Chiron, this music and its proponents nonetheless found an audience, for true soul is not simply subjective (inner planetary realm) nor meant to stay entirely within the (Saturnine) boundaries of class and ghetto. Chiron, key to the soul, orbits in the transpersonal realm beyond Saturn. Soul is where life is, and the soulfully embodied can remind us of our own embodied souls. Our souls want to love and be loved, bodily, to sing and dance. The term “rock’n’roll“ is a euphemism for making love. That which had been unknown or denied was expressed by these Aquarian Chironians, and disseminated by Jupiter in his different forms.
When Jupiter brings endorsement, conventional people become open to that which was either unknown, or dismissed. The greatest popularity of this music was by Caucasian American males who recognized the potential. Jupiterians included record label or station owners, “disc jockeys,” television hosts, such as Ed Sullivan, etc.
“Disc jockey” is a very interesting term. The core essence of Chiron is related to Shamanism, a pre-modern way of living far older and more long-standing than modern so-called “civilization.” Shamanism sees relevant relatedness between the celestial and terrestrial, the material and the spiritual, the soul and body, the human species and all of Nature, the Dream Time and waking life, the accessibility of the human realm with both the upper and lower realm, with respect, understanding and acceptance of all dimensions and all beings. The ongoing challenge was/is to have the wisdom to know how to be with all of this. Of central importance was/is the shamanic healing journey, a journey that was taken for the good of the entire community, and for others as well. For certain shamans, this shamanic healing journey took place by going into an altered state of consciousness involving music, especially the drum, while sitting on a horse hide. We could call such journeying shamans “horse-hide jockeys.”
Similarly, some disc jockeys helped share the body’n’soul music that alters consciousness in the interest of soul healing and wellness, restoring vitality to life in the process, all to a relentless drumbeat. The best disc jockeys of the late 50s rode the music for us/with us, doing their part for the shamanic/Chironic process, and simultaneously spreading the message, Jupiter-style. The ultimate embodiment of Chiron and Jupiter as disc jockey was the shaman-like-named “Wolf man” Jack. By contrast, the equally important TV host Ed Sullivan was born with Chiron conjunct Jupiter (and Saturn) opposite Neptune, all square his Sun in Libra.
Although he brought Rockers like Elvis to national TV in that era, Ed did not let (Saturn) the camera show Elvis’ body dancing below his waist, and later demanded lyric changes to songs performed by The Rolling Stones and The Doors. (Mythically, Saturn/Cronos was/is the father who will have nothing to do with his bastard son. Jupiter was/is Chiron’s half-brother, who first rejected and discriminated against Chiron, then gave him recognition. True to mythic form. Sullivan honored all these components of his birth chart during an era after his Chiron return and establishing his unquestionable eye and ear for creating “stars” by his second Saturn return.)
An excellent, entertaining non-astrological book on Shamanism expressed in modern culture is Rogan Taylor’s the death and resurrection show: From Shaman to Superstar. He describes how the archetypal nature of the shamanic soul’s need to heal and be healed must and will find its expression even when the dominant culture tries to deny or repress this essential expression of what it is to be human. Most importantly he tells us how essential use of costume, story-telling and entertaining (all inspired by altered consciousness) is true to shamanic expression, usually simplified as healing, sometimes educating.
When Chiron and Jupiter combine, we can get anything from a lot of Chiron with a bit of Jupiter to a lot of Jupiter with a bit of Chiron. For example, the most popular musical performers of the previous Chiron in Aquarius era ranged from African American Chironic-Jupiter Bo Diddley and Little Richard, to more Jupiterian African Americans Fats Domino and Chubby Checker to good-hearted, wild white man Jerry Lee (“Great Balls of Fire!”) Lewis, bad guy-looking Elvis, to more wholesome Rick Nelson, to the most acceptably Jupiterian, least Chironically embodied Pat Boone.
Since that era, the formerly alien have become “stars” (raised to the sky like Chiron), most having given up the body. So what marginalized alien Chiron Aquarians might emerge in 2009? One clue is to look at influential, relatively well-known individuals born between 1955 and 1960 and see what captivates their soul(s) that also might be astrologically related to Chiron in Aquarius. (More on this later.)
Jupiter conjunct Neptune begins a significant era of the spread and popularization of some actually religious, or quasi-religious belief, overtly religious, or not. Much has been written elsewhere by others on this subject, so I’ll be brief here. This aspect occurring in Aquarius boosts the importance of mass media (television, radio, internet) and would by itself limit access to these media by those already big and well known (CBS, NBC, ABC, CNN, Clear Channel, etc.) However, the simultaneous conjunction with Chiron potentially changes that story. (See “triple conjunction” section below.)
CHIRON CONJUNCT NEPTUNE
Although to my knowledge, there are no mythological stories involving Chiron and Neptune (or Poseidon), there is a story involving centaurs other than Chiron who drink too much wine, want to rape and fight, and require Chiron’s intervention. Also, Chiron’s shamanic connection to the planet of altered or transcendent (”out of it”) states of consciousness seems related to the human soul (Chiron’s) natural inclination to find ways to alter consciousness. For example, Keith Richard of the Rolling Stones has a tight Chiron-Neptune conjunction in Libra. Author Rogan Taylor in his fascinating book The Death and Resurrection Show: From Shaman to Superstar (previously mentioned) makes a strong journalistic and photographic case for certain popular musicians and other modern performers looking like, behaving like and being seen by people as special in ways uncannily like shamans of old. Many shamans were able to take large doses of mind-altering substances and somehow amazingly joke, story tell, sing, dance and otherwise perform flawlessly.
To be Chironic seems to be about being soulfully engaged with the world, interacting with, often somehow trying to help others, and/or “shamanize” somehow. Neptunian consciousness seems to involve transcending or escaping the harsh world of most others. For example, in religious circles, Chironic people try to help others if they can (educate, heal, etc.) Neptunian mystics bliss out by “transcending” the world and its Saturnine limitations. Certain rare Chiron-Neptune types can potentially do both at once. Like the shaman who takes mind-altering substances, then plays, sings, dances, tells stories and effects healings, the rare Neptunian-Chironian can somehow be completely “out of it” and paradoxically (“Chironically”) fully actively present. Similarly, for years, Keith Richards wrote and played mesmerizing music, seemingly “high” most of the time.
Not everyone who has Chiron–Neptune by birth and/or by transit is able to function successfully. In fact, most Chiron-Neptune aspects correlate with issues of addiction and/or detoxification. Some find another connection to the transcendent; others tragically fail to do so. Simplistically we might be tempted to suspect only alcohol, tobacco, or illicit drug use, with this indicator present. However, with this duo in the sign of Aquarius, mass media itself can be looked at as a consciousness-altering electronic drug, and/or may more likely be related to any “feel good” popular drugs promoted in that media. The issue of pharmaceutical drugs seeming benign could be significantly challenged as merely expensive and useless, or worse, dangerous to soul and/or body. In another respect, mass media can spin illusion and mystique to popularize or de-popularize anything they’re “selling,” including social/political/economic positions (propaganda). (Read about Edward Bernays for more on this subject.)
It’s interesting to look at collective eras, like 2008 or 2009 through such a lens, for clues to popular addiction. The Serenity Prayer perspective can be brought to this aspect. For example, for much of the fall of 2008, Chiron was conjunct the lunar North Node on the Sabian Symbol degree, “A watchdog standing guard, protecting his master and his possessions.” Chiron was, and at the time of this writing is, and for much of 2009 will be, conjunct Neptune. The Serenity Prayer perspective would have asked, must the bailout of elite financial institutions and their C.E.Os occur? Is some other change possible? Are people acting with wisdom about the matter? Was/is the astrology not saying that many people have been pursuing soul (Chiron) and spirituality (Neptune) through materialism, particularly propping up the hyper-wealthy greed addicts, seeing them and their political enablers (including Hilary, Biden and Obama) as our supposed wise leaders?
When Chiron aligns with Neptune, people want their problems and suffering to be transcended with imaginative or merely fanciful solutions. This longing continues to exist into 2009. Wise and effective solutions are by no means guaranteed. Sadly, in ego discomfort and actual or feared social dysfunction, anything can be hoped for as salvation. The easiest way out is likely to be even more inviting in May of 2009 when Jupiter is also a part of this conjunction. Can the solution really be that simple, or not?
5/17/09: Sun Square Chiron: Crisis for the Wounded King
A prominent leader struggles with his human vulnerability as people may see their leader as somehow wounded, and/or less than their shining light source of strength, for one or more reasons. In certain mythic and Shakespearian stories, the King, who everyone had been counting upon, dies, is wounded, or shows his human fallibility otherwise. One or more individuals who had refused to take action or had postponed a quest, etc. are called to act anyway, ready or not. Other stories of tragic kings involve those who stubbornly resist the popular will of people and their own advisors, clinging to ego and pride of position. People don’t want the king to behave the way that he is behaving. If he does not change, what then? The wisdom of the Serenity Prayer calls out from within “the king” (the individual ego, resisting popular opinion), but simultaneously from within a collective movement of consciousness. What is the wisest thing to do, or not do?
5/17/09: Sun Square Neptune: The Royal Ego Struggles
Others have written much about this aspect also, so I’ll be brief here. Extremes of individual self-perception are probable here, especially for those in prominent positions, and/or the expectations projected upon such a person. Look for delusions of god-like self-importance, or tragic perceptions of failure and disappointment, or swinging from one to the other, particularly depending on whether one’s “medications” are active or not active.
5/17/09: Sun Square Jupiter
Yet again, much has been said about this aspect by others, so I’ll be brief. Great enthusiastic expectations of a V.I.P. who hopes to easily make everyone happy, but will not likely be able to live up to unrealistic expectations.
Uranus in Pisces semi-sextiles the triple conjunction (especially Jupiter) and sextiles Sun and Mercury retrograde in Taurus.
Because Neptune, which has an affinity with Pisces, is in Aquarius and Uranus, which has an affinity with Aquarius is in Pisces, they could be said to be in a sort of “mutual reception” with one another. Similarly, Jupiter, the traditional ruler of Pisces, is in Aquarius conjunct Neptune, implying a sort of “mutual reception.” The planets and signs involved suggest a potential, but by no means certain, quantum leap in collective consciousness. Many astrologers and non-astrologers alike are hoping this will be a time for an instant or eminent collective shift of consciousness. The squares to the Taurean planets indicate that such a shift will not come easily, if at all. This semi-sextile aspect to the triple conjunction combined with the sextiles to Sun and Mercury in Taurus adds a peculiar “Yes, but I want it all” — altruistic and environmental idealism, as well as trickery in favor of the ego, likely switching back and forth like a toggle switch.
Misconceptions about the Sign of Aquarius vs. Basic Astrological Fundamentals and Some Revealing Astrological Research
No matter how ubiquitous, basic astrological fundamentals and some important research tell us that Aquarius is NOT typically a progressive and enlightened consciousness. Yes, the Fifth Dimension got it wrong in their song. Aquarius, like Taurus, Scorpio and Leo, is a FIXED sign. These are signs associated with getting and holding power. Aquarius, a FIXED AIR sign wants to control “the air.” The Sun is here in midwinter in the northern hemisphere, when we control the air within by excluding the different air outside. We close the door when the air is right; we open the door when we want to change the air. Saturn is the traditional ruler of this sign, imposing boundaries, Uranus’ association with the sign is usually not so much about liberation and freedom as it is about creating controlled openings for change. Although Aquarius can be related to heating and air conditioning, “Air” astrologically is associated with mental and/or social control. In the early 1970s a Harvard Lampoon comedy recording, called (if I remember correctly) Radio Dinner, parodied a political protest rally. “Power to the correct people!” shouted out a voice. That, in my opinion, is the essence of Aquarius. Yes, some Aquarians want true democracy, but most only want “the right” people to decide, often oneself or one’s own choice(s).
For example, Dick Cheney is a Sun in Aquarius. When tasked to find the best Vice Presidential candidate, he chooses himself, and convinced others of the correctness of that choice. Although both FDR and Lincoln were considered progressive Aquarian Suns, they, like Cheney, imposed what they thought was best for the American public, trusting that people would back them up afterwards, rather than merely representing the wishes of the people sought before actions were taken. Note that Ronald Reagan and Dan Quayle were Aquarian Suns. In the early 1970s a Sun Sign survey, published in American Astrology magazine found that in a then far more liberal US Congress and Senate, the majority of liberals were Aries or Pisces, the most middle-of-the-road were, not surprisingly, Libra Sun Signs. However, the most “right” wing archconservatives were all Sun Sign Aquarius.
Right wing conservatives are not absolute true conservatives, but rather are conservative about some things, like racial equality and economic equity, but conveniently open to change if it suits their own interests.
Aquarians might seem to reference the past, but they are focused on who will control the future.
The glyph for Aquarius looks like parallel waves. Clue: Airwaves = Radio, TV and related mass media driven by technology and electricity (hence, including the internet). The issue of who controls the airwaves is completely an Aquarian issue. It’s no surprise that the implementation of mandatory digital TV will occur in February 2009 while the Sun is in Aquarius. Inner “planets” (Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars) in Aquarius can give a personal interest in mass media. Jupiter or Saturn here can control or be controlled by the above board politics of mass media. Outer “planets” (Uranus, Neptune, Pluto) plus Chiron can consciously or unconsciously influence or be influenced by media, in different ways, depending upon the specific planet in question.
Jupiter in Aquarius is primarily a sign placement that wants to be on the side that’s winning, riding the bandwagon. Sometimes a bandwagon of good people with good intent can also be a genuinely good place to be, not just “riding along with the Joneses.”
Neptune in Aquarius, depending on one’s consciousness, can have a detached Buddhist-like compassion for all beings, with the capacity to transcend body and mind through meditation and such. On the other hand, consciously or otherwise, Neptune here can involve deception, delusion, “brain washing,” even an alien insensitivity to human misery and pain.
Chiron in Aquarius brings alternative approaches to energy to heat and cool our buildings and generate electricity for our mass media and modern life. Chiron, mythic defender of the forest, is the archetypal environmentalist. In Aquarius, look for concerns and Serenity Prayer perspectives on our air (global warming/cooling, ozone holes, mythic stories of extraterrestrial intervention, alternative, more eco-friendly approaches to airpower, etc., etc.)
Chiron always involves alternatives (alternative education, alternative health practioners, etc.) Chiron in Aquarius is the sign of alternative media, the most viable person/organization/time to essentially voice the Serenity Prayer perspective. Chiron looks at things differently. Chiron in Aquarius looks at and uses modern media differently, is open to other voices, other music, other ways of thinking. Two influential women in modern mass media who have Chiron in Aquarius are television (and internet) host Oprah Winfrey and alternative radio-TV-internet-author-speaker Amy Goodman, anchor of Democracy Now! Each, in her own way, has already used her access to media to present perspectives previously not generally thought possible or appropriate to present via mass media. Oprah got her viewers thinking about different perspectives on wisdom and personal growth, and proved there was enough interest to make her program commercially viable. For her own part, Amy Goodman championed the voices usually not heard and the stories usually not told on conventional mass media news.
Each of these amazing women are in a pivotal position of importance now that Chiron is again in Aquarius, and particularly concerning what emerges involving each in May 2009. In 2008, Oprah introduced some two million+ people to the remarkably different perspectives on time and consciousness espoused by Eckhart Tolle. Perhaps something even bigger will emerge regarding their collaboration in May 2009. Chiron in Air signs, such as Aquarius, deals with the enabling or disabling power of words. Specifically in Aquarius, Chiron can stand back, Tolle style, and observe our would-be controlling supposedly rational minds and be more present, less mentally controlled and suffering. The Democracy Now! perspective has questioned the body- and soul-damaging implications of “friendly fire,” “collateral damage,” “extraordinary rendition,” etc.
Triple conjunction (Chiron, Neptune, Jupiter in Aquarius) double square Sun conjunct Mercury retrograde, about mid-May 2009. During the early a.m. hours EST of May 17, the waning Aquarian Moon joins the triple conjunction to create a quadruple conjunction square Sun Mercury. On 5/23/09, the triple conjunction is exact to the degree, the three still square Mercury retrograde, plus the Moon in Taurus, and out-of-sign square Sun in early Gemini. However, the conjunction just keeps happening throughout 2009, and even beyond.
What to expect? On one hand, anticipate regular “good” people (Jupiter) looking favorably at Aquarian alternatives, including the alternative media, alternative “green” energy, and alternative concepts in general. On the other hand, regrettably we’ll probably see an expression of what my astrologer friend Caroline Casey calls the “toxic mimic.” For example, insincere “green-washing” will likely play on these aspirations, particularly in May when this triple conjunction squares potentially stubborn and selfish Sun in Taurus conjunct Mercury retrograde in Taurus who “just doesn’t want to hear it,” says it’s theory that doesn’t work in “the real world,” and will likely hold, distort, or lie about the information, in part out of simple financial self-interest.
Regarding the alternative media issue, simplistic slanderers will likely attempt to scoff at and lie about the alternative news media, its messages and stories, and its proponents, including, probably, Amy Goodman. Some fifty years ago, mocking critics failed to stop music of body’n’soul. This time smug and derisive attacks are likely to ultimately fail again, IF enough positive momentum and support is put behind alternative media.
Spiritual Awareness Consciousness, like the perspectives of Eckhart Tolle, will likely spread in even greater popularity than they did when Chiron was in Aquarius, despite probable distortions and misunderstandings of his perspectives.
Look for increased popularity for Chironic astrology, Planet Waves, etc., along with increased Curmudgeon Resistance. The intolerant can tune out voices, wipe out glyphs from their charts, but they can’t monopolize everyone behind bland, stupid (not wise) media, methodologies and paradigms.
As Gandhi said, “Be the change that you would like to see.” There’s no better time, no more important time, to participate to try to effect change. Consult your local Serenity Prayer for additional information.

Meaning: Rather than just get to the point, you pontificate and ramble on ad nauseam. My God Man! Just get to the point! That was the most long-winded astro-babble I have ever read. I mean *tried* to read. Geez. Haven’t you ever heard the phrase, “simplicity is elegance?” Get someone to help you edit your stuff man. Just tell us what we need to know. It’s obvious you’re smart. You don’t need to show off how much you know by writing a blog-novel.
“Shapes of Things” by the Yardbirds with Jimmy Page reproducing Jeff Beck’s guitar solo from the studio version after Beck was fired from the band. Beck rearranged the song for the first track of the Jeff Beck Group’s debut album, “Truth,” which featured a then relatively unknown vocalist Rod Stewart and Ron Wood on bass.

My gratitude to the Author of this piece and to Eric for re-publishing it if only for the perspective it gave me. When i first read it i admit that i was confronted by Mr. O’Brien’s characterizations of Solar Aquarians and i closed my mind. Now, it doesn’t bother me nearly so much because i have somehow gained a better grip on who i am since the beginning of the year. Now, comparisons to Dick Cheney, Ronald Reagan and Dan Quayle and other archconservatives do not faze me because that sho’ `nuff ain’t me. In addition, speaking not only as as a Solar Aquarian but as someone whose natal Chiron (in Capricorn) squares my natal Neptune (in Libra), i can say for sure that the conjunction(s) / aspect(s) of this past weekend were not easy, but a source of gratitude for me nonetheless. i’m grateful for the challenges. i’m grateful for the trials and tests. This has been, is and will be one heck of a ride. i sincerely thank Mr. O’Brien and wish him simillar good fortune.

So worth a second reading. This is a really good article and so relevant (of course!) as in “Collaborative movements of underdog outsiders with holistic and alternative perspectives (Chiron) are likely to be receiving favorable popular attention (Jupiter) via mass media (Neptune in Aquarius)” and then gave us the image of Eric Francis on Fox News. Picture that (on 1st reading) and then last Friday we got CNN’s Larry King featuring a panel of new agers talking about spirituality, death, overcoming jealousy, etc. Really!
Then in his Sun square Chiron(Crisis for the Wounded King) and Sun square Neptune (The Royal Ego Struggles), I couldn’t help but think of Cheney’s recent media blitz in “individuals who had refused to take action or had postponed a quest, etc. are called to act anyway, ready or not”, and “look for delusions of god-like self-importance, or tragic perceptions of failure and dissappointment, or swinging from one to the other”.
Seeming most relevant to me was the Sun Square Jupiter words “Great enthusiastic expectations of a VIP who hopes to easily make everyone happy, but will not likely be able to live up to unrealistic expectations.” Does this not bring to your mind the picture of President Obama addressing the Notre Dame assembly? Mr. O’Brien goes on to say: “Many astrologers and non-astrologers alike are hoping this will be a time for an instant or eminent collective shift of consciousness”. Could not the abortion viewpoints of Americans be a candidate for this collective shift?
It would help me to have had “Chiron coming to Jupiter, as in the case of May 2009″ explained further. Doesn’t Jupiter come to Chiron, or am I misunderstanding? Still, the concept of Jupiter favoring Chiron as in “influential people” popularizing “underdog/outsiders” is a compelling one. Will read at least one more time.
Just one note – in my writing, I never call Chiron the wounded healer. It’s a little like calling Elton John the chubby piano player; it really tells you nothing and scares away people who don’t know about this archetype. Yes he happened to get hurt. He helped a lot of the people in the process – and long before. But there is a lot more than that…
here’s my prediction – the wounded healer is impacting transportation very deeply, Chiron 26, but by the end of the year something new will appear – the metamorphosis will be well on the way – not perfect by a long shot. Many auto workers and dealers have been wounded horribly this week. Tech workers at private dealers get paid when they do repair work, and the lower level guys – car washers and such, make as little as minimum wages. This hurts a lot. One sales person I listened to this week said that all dealers sell x number of cars, good economy or not – and everyone will eventually need some car repairs. So why close the dealerships?
Neptune is pulling the wool over our eyes – there is an imprisonment being perpetrated – a self-undoing. Since when does a privately owned dealership get closed by a sitting US President? Since he promised more toyota and Chinese dealerships for extended loans? The price we pay for all the loans taken out from Japan and China? Oh I think the dealerships will not exactly sit vacant, but they will no longer sell GM and Chrysler products, thus allowing those overseas competitors a little more edge, a larger market share for cheap little cars.
Neptune is sitting in the 12th house of its ruler Pisces, conjunct Chiron at 26 degrees Aquarius – a battery man is inspecting a car….etc. At the end of the year, Jupiter will be at 24 plus Aquarius – Aqu 25 A butterfly struggles to emerge from the chrysalis and it seems that the right wing is more perfectly formed. It will then struggle back over these end degrees of Aquarius and on into Pisces next year. I’d be willing to bet the Republicans stage a strong comeback in the 2010 elections.
