The Attractor

Through Wednesday and Thursday, the Sun is opposite a deep space point called the Great Attractor. This is no garden-variety object, like a galaxy or star. It’s more like the anti-big-bang. Our entire local group of galaxies (a vast cluster of us) is being pulled toward this point at a million miles per hour. That’s how fast we are traveling through space, right now — in the direction of mid-Sagittarius.

The Attractor broadcasts on every frequency but visible light. Because it’s located on the level of the galactic plane (of our own rather milky Milky Way galaxy) any direct view we might have of it is obscured. This area is called the Zone of Avoidance. We can only perceive it using instruments, and by inferring its existence from the behavior of our neighboring galaxies who all seem to be chasing it.

And as they (including us) chase, the Great Attractor retreats — borrowing from one of my colleagues, it’s the ultimate Sagittarian statement of “don’t crowd my space.” Now the Gemini Sun is opposite this point. We know that Gemini represents two of something, and this is accented by the Attractor, which can have a wildly polarizing effect on reality or how we perceive it. Have you noticed that going on? What is interesting about the Attractor is that the two polarities don’t connect. With the Sun in its current sign this may be the ultimate Gemini statement of a battle of words. Yet this doesn’t need to be the case.

Mercury is slowing to a station in Cancer, one of the most emotionally focused signs. You can think of this as Mercury slowly getting in touch with its feelings (that is, you getting in touch with your feelings), or the alignment of your mental body with your feeling body. Mercury seems involved in some profound contemplation, moving just arc minutes per day, in a water sign, about to change polarities and be retrograde. Mercury is doing this in alignment with Hades, a very slow-moving point associated with profound depth. The deeper the discussion is, the more vulnerable those engaged will feel, and the more truthful we will be. Some people may have valid gripes, but nobody is going to come clean until there is an environment of trust, of which guilt and shame are the opposite.

* While objects in the direction of the Great Attractor lie in the Zone of Avoidance (the part of the night sky obscured by the Milky Way galaxy) and are thus difficult to study with visible wavelengths, X-ray observations have revealed that the region of space is dominated by the Norma cluster (ACO 3627), a massive cluster of galaxies containing a preponderance of large, old galaxies, many of which are colliding with their neighbours, and/or radiating large amounts of radio waves. — Wikipedia

  1. Interesting, several people I work with, who have been quite protected against feeling anything have made considerable breakthroughs recently. They are starting to really feel the difficult feelings. Seems like there’s an inner authorization coming through for them. Cool!

  2. “The Attractor broadcasts on every frequency but visible light. ..any direct view we might have of it is obscured. This area is called the Zone of Avoidance.”

Great Attractor, and all you describe. To me, not so mysterious. Regarding the spirit’s timing as I mentioned last week, I feel this feeling of expectancy is still pulling for our attention here.

Maybe GA ‘Spirit’ is not so much in retreat, as is in necessary detachment towards unveiling us answer to awakening of our mission/call. Now this to me is a symbolized (I) trust.

Here’s what the corresponding Sabian Degrees of this opposition today read:

GEMINI VI. THE SPAN OF RESTLESSNESS

    Sun -Gemini 16°
WOMAN AGITATOR MAKES AN IMPASSIONED PLEA TO A CROWD.

Rising of the human soul in demand for the recognition by the outer nature of the needs of inner being. Self-assertion.

SAGITTARIUS XVIII. THE SPAN OF DETACHMENT

    GA -Sagittarius 16°
A CALM OCEAN; A MOTIONLESS SHIP; LAZILY SOARING SEAGULLS.

The moments of pause which sustain and presage change. Alert readiness to act; or distress at not knowing what lies ahead.

  3. Many women have been opening up to me lately, in one on one situations, and divulging some very deep health and psychological issues. Not friends I have ever been that close with, but suddenly each of these relationships are changing. Something is being worked out by listening, but also I have opened up in return. I have surprised myself with some of the things I have expressed that I wouldn’t have in the past. Though I do have health problems and am vocal about discussing my disease, so I suppose that created an opening. Seemingly an opening to healing deep wounds. I unknowingly created an environment of trust by being completely open about my situation.

On the other hand I clearly had a conversation with a “client” yesterday where they really weren’t listening to a word I was saying, they had this one thought stuck in their head and they were going to express it repeatedly without taking in the facts. I couldn’t break through the polarization.

The great attractor is square my Saturn in Pisces. It frequently feels like a pull in one direction and I want to go in another, and I have to succumb to what my life is calling for in the present, rather than in the fantasy of the future in my mind.

  4. I just noticed the Virgo Moon is in a t-square to the GA and Gemini Sun, which could be adding criticism to the polarity. It also means that Mercury and the Moon are in mutual reception. That sounds like it could be a positive thing for understanding feelings and going deep if we don’t get too self-protective and defeatist.

Yesterday was the 25th anniversary of Tiananmen Square and today is the one year anniversary of Snowden’s breaking news to all of us. A lot of mistrust, guilt and shame there.

  5. Been the teeter-totter effect for me. Sure of a decision one day, going the other direction the next.

Thanks for the one-liner on Hades, Eric. Natal Hades on the MC/Taurus with Hera and Pallas. PW is an ongoing astrology lesson. Thank you.

  6. Carlos — what exactly is the significance of 2 Monkey today, for those of us who are unfamiliar with the Maya glyphs?

    thanks!

  7. “wildly polarizing effect on reality or how we perceive it.” I’m sure seeing this in the news lately particularly regarding the over the top rush to judgment in the case of the prisoner exchange of Bowe Robert Bergdahl.

  8. Thanks, Eric. I’ve definitely been feeling a polarizing effect lately.

Also, this gave me insight into the Great Attractor and helped me to understand what you have been communicating in the annual readings about Virgos and the experience of Sagittarius, and thus the Great Attractor, in the 4th house.
