What does the word “spirit” mean to you? Even a devout atheist must at some point understand that a “spirit of the times” affects large swaths of the human population all at once when we collectively experience trauma or triumphs. It can manifest as a general moodiness or as a feeling of genuine liberation.
The majority of cultures in the world identify with a faith in some incorporeal being — an entity without a body, made of energy — that created the Earth and stars and all the humans and animals.
That many billions of people cannot all be insane or deluded so whatever the experience is that leads them to be ‘believers’ is worth examining.
Many people claim to have direct experience with a Divine presence of spiritual beings — angels, ancestors who have passed on, God, animal totems, even extra-terrestrial beings that communicate in dreams and visions. All of these can be experienced internally in a person’s mind, including during near-death experiences, during plant medicine rituals, or through simple fantasies.
Sometimes beliefs are created as attempts to explain away what we do not understand. Sometimes we do not want to put the effort into discovering realities we would rather not confront.
There is a new wave of spirituality across the globe right now. We are all One Love as the tzolkin day 1 Dog is intended to express — and the Maya tzolkin date for today, Wednesday June 4, is 1 Dog.
Welcome to a new trecena (13 days) of global love awareness leading us to a portal of cosmic inspiration.
Love is what God is. The instrument that picks up the vibrations of love is not our brain but rather our heart. If you only think you are in love, you probably are just infatuated. In Mayan tradition, it is the Ancestors of a married couple that brought them together through the spiritual realms.
My mentor and greatest teacher, Don Alejandro Cirilo Perez Oxlaj, Grand Elder of the Maya, talks of how he hears the voices of the Ancestors. They come to him as random sounds as he walks through a jungle and they speak through his voice as he conducts a fire ceremony; or during a “mixing” divination, the voices of the petitioner’s Ancestors may channel through him.
The tzolkin glyphs associated with the north and the color white are some of the best days to have spiritual experiences. These are Ik/Wind, Kame/ Death, Tzi/Dog, Ix/Jaguar, and Tijax/Flint Knife.
During the current 13 days we have 1 Dog, 5 Jaguar, 9 Flint Knife (Full Moon!) and 13 Wind making this trecena a great time to get deeper into whatever form of spirituality you choose. You may find yourself carried away by emotions that suddenly tug at your heart!
The Maya say 13 Wind “would have been the first day, had there been a Sun.” So Spirit is primary even to light. Modern science has created models of the formation of the universe that show galaxies of light emerging from dark matter as fruit forms from a tree.
As we step day by day through this portal of love, friendship, loyalty and authority we graduate to a higher level of spiritual transcendence when we reach 13 Ik/Wind on June 16, 2014.
This is a great time to start a new conversation about authentic spirituality in the New Baktun (Great Cycle of Time). Honor what Creator has given you and Spirit may drop more gifts into your lap!

Be (just an aside – excuse me all) ‘fear’ is a manhandling interpretation of awe and the effects of being overwhelmed in the Presence. Fear may be an appropriate word but we have used it badly to instil fear or as leverage.
People often talk to me about Xtianity this Islam that judaism etc and imo it is poor or deliberate mis/. Not commenting on your parents rather how material was presented.
This also is aside but on the same theme? Someone reassured me earnestly yesterday that they wanted to respect me, and I realise that I have no desire to be respected but that everyone can and dares to think well enough for themselves (that way I will almost undoubtedly be respected too)

Yesterday (which was less than an hour ago) I must have heard the released prisoner Bergdahl’s name 30 or more times since I kept the television on, whether I was in the same room with it or not. It always sounded like they were saying “birddog” and because I put a lot of stock in symbols, I finally thought that Bergdahl must be leading us (like a birddog) to something we are searching for; just like in that commercial for some vehicle where the doggy sniffs the scarf and leads the guy in the car through some Italian city (I guess it’s Italy) to the place where the lady who lost the scarf lives. Those of you who don’t watch TV won’t be familiar with that, but it’s on a lot and has a cool music background as well as a cool doggy.
Anyway. . . .I just remembered that yesterday was the tzolkin day 1 Dog and we are being led to a portal of cosmic inspiration . . .by Bergdahl it appears.

I didn’t understand why I reacted the way I did to a film clip of the last American prisoner being handed over – until I’d seen it 2 or 3 more times. We rarely realize when the snake brain (survival, reptilian, Plutonian, unconscious) energy has surfaced and taken over all functions of the body until after the fact. In this case I found myself sobbing but not so much that the American was “safe” but that two hostile “armies” had met on a battlefield and not a shot was fired.
When we are very young we are indoctrinated (my generation got it through movies and radio and now 12 year old girls get it through the internet) to not trust and even hate others of another “tribe” or color or belief system. Most of us outgrow that indoctrination, or think we have, but today I saw the enemy in a different light; waving a white flag (their choice of a signal of who they were. . tzolkin glyph? ) and not murdering Americans or anyone else. I saw 3 representatives of “us” and 3 representatives of “them”, all apprehensive and not fully trusting the other side to abide by the rules of the game. The “others” were just as human as “us” and as me.
That early indoctrination is based on fear which stems from the difficulty of survival, real or perceived. I’m not a psychiatrist but my heart believes that fear is left over ancestral fear embedded in our DNA. It is then built upon by what we are exposed to in childhood. My parents fell away from the institutional church in part because they taught the fear of God.
During these times of “global unrest”, the communal (tribal) snake brain surfaces and we witness unbelievable acts of violence by an individual upon another, or several others, or even multiple others. Most of us will not succumb to that state of fear (for our own survival) but the only way to “vaccinate” the majority of humanity is with an understanding of what love really is all about. The Mayan “global love awareness” sounds like it could be that vaccine and what a hopeful start – returning a prisoner of war. This will lead to a return of 5 prisoners of war in exchange for today’s returned prisoner and I hope to see video of that exchange too. I also hope it will be by June 16th when the transiting Sun reaches 24 + degrees of Gemini!
