Intimacy requires true bravery. I am a pretty gutsy person, and when I am approached by someone offering contact and closeness and acknowledgment — all of which I deeply crave — I often feel my mind fill with raging insecurities, confusion and fear. I know that I can either hesitate, or accept the offer and experience whatever comes next. But what is at the heart of this terror? I suspect it’s the business of not knowing; of not being able to control the outcome; and the simple fact that when we enter into authentic relationship, we are changed forever, never to return to the way we were. But isn’t it time?
