  2. yah, well, these wars are about oil and money, so it is no surprise to hear that the Senate chose not to take up a comprehensive climate bill before its August vacation, nor does anybody expect it to do so by the end of the year.

meanwhile, this tantalizing tidbit regarding our possible impending demise, just in from the folks at the center for biological diversity: this March, April, May and June were the hottest March, April, May and June EVER.

Four of ’em. In a row. Hottest months ever.

    from CBD:

It isn’t just your imagination. This June beat several world records for toasty temperatures, showing how frighteningly fast global warming is taking hold. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration reports that June was the fourth consecutive month with the hottest combined global land and surface temperatures on record. It was also the month with the warmest-ever land surfaces and the fourth-warmest oceans — and it marked the 304th consecutive month with a combined global land and surface temperature above the 20th century average. (The last month with “below-average” temperatures was February 1985.) Plus, so far, 2010 has been the warmest year on record.

  3. Well think of the presidency as the mediator between corporate interests and public interests; as a PR front man; and as a functionary.

We would have a lot more democracy, if we bothered to use it. This week, it manifested as Wikileaks telling us about those documents, and putting them in our hands.

  4. Well! That’s some lens!

But take it out of the bag and you become a Pro.

Be careful not to break any news.

Wondering if Judas was one of the 12….?

  5. Well, it’s my first Zeiss. It’s fixed focus – no zoom. Manual focus….it’s 21mm focal length so it’s very wide but not fish eye; the beauty of Zeiss is the lack of distortion at the edges; the full clarity at the edges of wide angle lenses. It has incredible depth of field, but you can stop it down to 2.8 and get rid of some of that. It weighs about a pound. Zeiss considers it their flagship lens – they are really proud of this lens and that is saying a lot, given that Carl Zeiss invented the process (the math, in particular) with which glass refracts light.

It handles light totally different than a Canon lens. It produces more contrast and color contrast. Canon usually overexposes and dani taught me to always underexpose by 2/3 to 1 full stop. But this lens changes that; sometimes you have to compensate by overexposing, sometimes by underexposing and sometimes right in the middle. It’s very challenging to use! You really have to pay attention to what you’re doing and focus with precision and watch your light.

I ordered a focusing screen for inside the camera that gives a digital camera the view of the old SLRs, that is, prism and split image focusing, so you can really see what’s going on.
